byler is genuinally one of my favourite fandoms because never in my life have i seen a group of people so perseverant. we got queerbaited, had a massive communal crashout over it, managed to convince ourselves two days after that there was 2hrs of missing footage, found evidence, got a petition which got over 200,000 signatures, only to find out it wasn't true, then convinced ourselves AGAIN that byler would be canon in the finale, got queerbaited a second time (in under a week), then manage to convince ourselves that there's some massive plot twist where the finale isnt the finale and there's an entire other episode (with evidence) and are now convinced that we're going to get ANOTHER finale??? genuinally we're all going crazy. but we're going crazy together <333
WE'RE NOT IN HAWKINS ANYMORE...
It's official: I'm rewriting the entirety of season 4 and season 5. I'll be starting with season 4 for lore and continuity reasons, plus there are many writing problems I'd like to fix. Though season 3's writing is not as strong, I'll be taking it as canon because I wouldn't know what to do with it. The first initial release will be in script format, with teasers, trailers, snippets and volume/weekly releases (whatever you guys prefer) like it's the actual show. I'll probably also be doing a "novelization" later on with the characters thoughts and feelings on ao3 (a.k.a fanfic format).
So, how will this work?
WHAT WILL STAY THE SAME (ST4):
The division of storylines (Hopper in Russia, Cali crew, Hawkins gang and El's lab plot)
Running Up That Hill scene
Most of the vol. 1 Hawkins plot
Some scenes, plotlines and arcs will stay the same/similar
WHAT WILL BE DIFFERENT (ST4):
The Russia plot will be actually relevant to the overall plot and expand on Hopper's character
The Cali plot is completely different/tied to the supernatural plot
Will as a main character again
No military (not in the way they used them at least)
Mike, Will, Jonathan and Karen have actual storylines
Characters from different plotlines are still connected to each other and reunite sooner
Henry/Vecna's backstory is...different
El's backstory at the lab is also different and more in line with s1
Most Byler scenes will be different considering the change in plot, but they will be even more prominent than in canon (building up to endgame)
Eddie has a different arc
Less time spent on new characters
Change in some minor character dynamics
Higher stakes (character deaths, injuries, fake-outs)
Different season ending
I like to think everyone is more in-character, but you will be the judge of that
WHAT ABOUT SEASON 5?
Since I need to get season 4 finished first, I don't have season 5 outlined. That being said, I know it will include better arcs for the characters, Mike getting vecna'd, better Upside Down lore, and a much more satisfying ending (with Byler endgame).
THE TIMELINE:
Will be up to you. If you want weekly, volume or all-at-once releases, you decide. Please give me suggestions for dates as well, since I don't know until when everyone will stay on Tumblr/the fandom. I also would like to do a rating poll after every episode like on iMDB, so you can let me know what you like or dislike about the story.

there was no "lets start a new party, you and me". there was no For Will tape thats been slapped on every piece of merchandise. there was no mysterious blanked out letter from October 6, 1983. there was no resolution to mikes relationship to his dnd persona to face his fears when holly had to deal with hers to see herself as a hero. there was no regrets that mike kept himself from making despite his whole season thesis statement of "i dont want any more regrets". there was no payoff for the painting and it only showed up in a glimpse on mikes dorm wall. not even a FRIENDSHIP "crazy together" callback as the party literally jumps into an interdimentional hell. there were shared looks and bumping elbows and brushes of the knee. mike being weird about will being a sorcerer. why was it so important that wills powers be innate? why was lucas giving mike mad side eye about it. it amounted to nothing at all. dick jokes and innuendos ON MIKES PART (not wills!).
and suddenly mike, who has been misunderstanding el for years atp is "the person who understands her best and always has". and had the most cringey over the top kiss to purple rain which has been tainted forever by the memory of it.
there's so, so much more i could name. im not even sad, it was just weird and confusing. i LOVED the first half! and uh. STRANGER THINGS have certainly happened! dafuq

Why did Mike look like he was realizing something after El kissed him in front of Willâs closet in s3? Why couldnât he hug Will at the airport in s4? Why couldnât he say I love you to El in s4 AND s5? Why do Mike and El seem entirely unromantic in s5 so that their kiss feels like it comes out of absolutely nowhere? Why are Mike and El shown to be incompatible in s3 and s4 and Mike is paralleled with Brenner, Elâs canonical abuser? Why does El say Mike understands the âtrue herâ when she thought he thought she was a monster in s4? Why did Mike say in s4 âit was a fight they couldnât come back fromâ only to get back together? Why did Mike and El have their first kiss in s2 to a song about stalking and control? Why did Mike spend s4 staring at Willâs lips? Why are Jancy addressed as trauma bonded but not Mike and El (who got together as children, when El was a nonverbal amnesiac freshly out of an abusive lab, and when their bond was completely formed around the traumatic events of trying to save Will and hide from Brenner)?
Who IS Mike Wheeler? Why does he do any of the things that he does? As it stands, he is absolutely nonsensical
