The thing is it does seem weirdly convenient to have had a moment of (Christian?) religious ecstasy at the exact moment the stars of your movie who also have dating rumours just happened to be acting out one of the most overt visual metaphors for queerness that I’ve ever seen in a moving picture. especially if you maybe filmed the movie during a far more liberal political climate and now have to release it in an extremely reactionary one where gay rights and freedom of speech are under attack from the US government and public sentiment at large. However I am choosing to believe that Mr. Chu did genuinely feel the Holy Spirit visited him by way of Cynthia erivo and Ariana grande pretending to be in a closet.

my new goal with life and the Internet is instead of being like “social media is BAD reading a book by the stream is GOOD” just noticing how I feel and what makes me feel activated. Certain sites are good when I want to engage with a lot of content about a special interest but I know if I stay on them too long I get angry. Certain sites are more boring but I know I’m less likely to feel activated and attacked. I think it’s frustrating that people are always telling us what to do and what not to do online when I think a better approach would be teaching people to recognize their baseline and when they start feeling angry or defensive and letting them regulate themsleves from there. Rather than just having people quit stuff cold turkey

it’s actually wild how terrified of the general public most usamericans are. like you don’t realize it if you’re someone who mostly walks and takes transit and spends a lot of time in populous public spaces but then you talk to one of the thousands of people that seemingly never set foot in any public space besides a parking garage or a starbucks and you suddenly understand why it’s so easy for fascist rhetoric about the dangerous alien to take root. this country’s median voter pretty much never interacts with strangers who aren’t their coworkers or people they met on dating apps

saw a post on instagram that was literally someone citing statistics saying public transit is one of the safest travel options out there and the comments were literally just “ummmmm op this is so ableist and misogynistic of you :) don’t you know the average public transit user is a dangerous violent criminal who wants to set you on fire :)))”

it must be so terrifying and sad to go through life convinced if you set foot outside your car in public or interact with people outside your nuclear family you’ll instantly be raped and robbed by the Evil Poors no wonder so many of these people are reactionary tar pits
