genuine question, what does the orca(?) represent on your fat liberation flag design?
also i adore this blog and im so glad its still around
thank you! I chose the orca because of how Iβve seen the symbol of the whale reclaimed by fat activists in the feed1st community. I wanted to choose the killer whale as a symbol to turn the fatphobic insult into something powerful (and dangerous). the orca on the flag represents majesty, community, resilience, & liberation!
more thoughts on that here. π
the four shades of blue stripes represent the four categories of fatness, with infinifat first. the grey background is a direct nod to the grey bg in the disability pride flag, which represents the mourning and rage for victims of ableist violence and abuse.
I landed on blue bc itβs the color of the ocean, vast, expansive, everchanging, and intrinsic to nature itself. the orca belongs there!
