A little red spotted toad [Anaxyrus punctatus] sits nicely, curls their toes, and smiles for photographer Lee Hoy. This specimen was found in Brewster County, Texas.

What grandma wouldn’t want to pinch this baby’s chubby cheeks? Here we see a spadefoot toad tadpole [either Spea multiplicata or Spea bombifrons], found in a shallow pond in Cochise County, Arizona. Images by Gary Nafis.

Quite nice, aren’t they? This frog is the big-headed rain frog [Craugastor megacephalus], a species found primarily in Panama. These frogs hatch via direct development, emerging from their eggs as fully-formed froglets, as opposed to tadpoles. Their diet consists mainly of beetles and ants. Images by Joel Sartore.
