Seeing him in the corner of their eye, they raised an eyebrow. It was easy enough to sense him behind them, even as they were running away from him. Their movements were truly more animal like than that of a human, yet it didn’t quite turn as feral. Every single step, landing and leap seemed to be calculated. Whether it was just instincts or their brain working overtime, they easily found the most efficient path.
Yet, he managed to get right on their tail, keeping up well enough. It wasn’t until then, as they felt his nen behind them that they started to feel a thrill. Rather than running away; they wanted to try and fight him. But, they would entertain this little game for now. It had been awhile since the properly stretched their legs. As he grew closer, they would wait until the very last second, until he almost had them in their reach before their nen suddenly exploded.
The atmosphere turned heavy, enveloping such a great area as their already inhuman speed only grew faster. They saw little need to go further than merely using nen, Terpsichora would remain for battles only. The gap would grow wide with another large leap, diving down into the wilderness as they kept moving; undisturbed by the terrain. Leaving claw marks and broken branches behind them.
Lan’s movements were almost picture perfect of the chimera ant’s, at least if they were human that is. Even if it did take bolstering his body with nen this early on to keep up, matching their calculated movements gave him the sliver of a chance and hope at actually being able to potentially tag them. Well, it did until their powerful nen almost completely rattled him from the intensity and once more the gap between them had been greatened.
It would honestly be safe to say that it wasn’t even a simple gap anymore but an entire chasm. This was made worse by them taking the chase through the wilderness and with Lan already trailing so far behind it made it difficult to be able to match their movements and move efficiently where he wouldn’t be wasting stamina or nen in trying to keep up. Fortunately for him, however, all was not lost.
The chimera ant only pulled out the nen needed to keep themself far enough in the lead, or even to leave Lan in the dust. Which gave way to a few ideas. Since he didn’t see a hatsu there was potential that they didn’t have one, or that they believed it unnecessary for someone like him. Either way, both were good for him. As a beast hunter Lan was used to tracking down and studying beasts that following the trail they left behind, and the bonechilling aura they let off was child’s play.
So, he only needed to make up the difference in their actual speed. Which the memory card he just conjured and inserted into his head should more than help with that. On the back of his hands formed what looked like singular arrow tips, the tip on his left hand pointing in the direction of his forearm and the right pointing toward his fingers. Upon tapping his chest twice with his right hand, two more arrows formed and suddenly Lan was zipping through the forest with his own fashion of inhuman speed once again trying to catch up.
Hopefully the boost he received would be enough to at least put him back in this thing, because he was already taking a risk speeding up his own body unnaturally like this when the Hatsu “Acceleration” was more so meant to be used externally as accelerating or decelerating one’s body had an effect on everything which included brain activity and blood flow which was extremely dangerous if used incorrectly or had prolonged use.
