Hi! Do you know any good french vocabulary/ grammar workbooks on like a B1/B2 level? I'm kind of stuck at that level and im starting to think i may need a more traditional approach. Merci â€ïž
Hello,
I'm actually working on my own as we speak! The only book I've ever recommended is Myrna Rochester's so you might want to take a look at it, but in the meantime, here are my suggestions:
Read, read, read - the news, children's books, blogs, etc.
Journal daily, explain what you've been doing, eating, feeling, etc.
Check my grammar tag!
Send me questions when needed
Search sentences on Deepl when you're unsure
I charge for lessons but not for chats! You can hit me up on IG

can you please make a list of really popular french songs? like, the type of songs that if you play them at a party in france almost everybody knows all the words and can dance to them.
Hi, this has been taking root in my asks for a while and Iâm sorry but this is a hard question; people born in Nice in the 60s and in Trappes in the 90s will have extremely different references. And the dancing criteria makes it worse.
Currently are huge: Aya Nakamuraâs Jolie nana, Hatikâs Angela, Boshâs Djomb, Vitaa and Slimaneâs Versus, Julâs La machine, Maesâ Les derniers salopards, Gambiâs La vie est belle.
Now-
I was born in 1992. Thereâs a lot of stuff Iâve never heard of because Iâm not that interested in current stuff - Iâve never listened to Jul, for example. Had you asked your question to a 14-year-old, they would probably mention him very quickly. What I can say is that people my age would destroy everything up to the 2000s at a karaoke session, and then start having issues; whereas my younger sibling, eight years younger than me, would have the exact opposite problem. Why? Because I heard the very old stuff on the radio, before the Internet even happened; nowadays, people donât listen to the radio anymore, they go on Youtube or Spotify, so they donât experience that stuff.
the other day i was perusing the dessert options in the dining hall and this group of absolute stereotypical frat boy types were also milling around the desserts and one of them pointed to the strawberry pastries and said to the others âwhatâs the vibe with these, boys?â and i havenât been able to get that sentence out of my head since
Salut! How would you recommend someone to improve their pronunciation in French if they donât have access to a class/live in the country where French is spoken? Iâm trying so hard but I struggle a lot with pronunciation but itâs so so important to me to be able to pronounce words properly and speak well because I love this language so much and itâs very important to me but Iâm struggling a lot
You donât have to live somewhere in particular or go to school to get any kind of skill. Practice and hard work will always be enough. Now :

This post is about expressions mentioning human balls. Not that Iâm proud of it but we do have a few. Can be used with personal pronouns rather than âçaâ.
Ăa me casse/pĂšte/brise les couilles âitâs breaking my ballsâ : itâs pissing me off (you can use the ovaries version if you like)
Ăa me fout les boules âitâs giving me the ballsâ : itâs scary, bothering
Avoir des couilles âhaving nutsâ : being brave
Je mâen bats les couilles âIâm slapping my balls over itâ : I donât care
Il y a une couille dans le potage âthereâs a nut in the soupâ : something seems wrongÂ
Partir en couille : a situation or person is getting out of control
Avoir/se faire des couilles en or âgetting golden ballsâ : being/getting rich
CoĂ»ter la peau des couilles âcosting ball skinâ : being very expensive
Et mes couilles sur ton nez ça fait des lunettes âmy balls on your nose look like sunglassesâ / Et mes couilles sous ton menton ça fait un dindon âmy balls under your chin look like a turkeyâ : easy way out when you want someone to shut up
Se faire couillonner âgetting balledâ : getting fooled
And the literary example, pour se coucher moins bĂȘte ce soir :

That post that gives âif you have a collection of odds and ends and you throw away all but one of them, what do you call it?â as an example of how nonsensical the English language is bugs me because there is a word for that. A single article from a collection of odds and ends is called an oddment.
Well, yes, in this particular context; the initial criticism was âisnât it silly that we have a word for a type of collection, but no word for a single member of that collection?â. Point is, we do have a word for a single member of that collection. So while the English language may well be nonsensical, itâs not for that reason.
« The English language makes no sense; thatâs just not Why »
But all languages are crazy tbh. You ever fucked with the word « oiseau »? Itâs fucking pronounced Wazoo. Does that look like it should fucking rhyme with kazoo??
