The rare two-punchline EWC comic (because both made me laugh)

Been tossing around in my mind how it went down when Tim told Sasha about Danny

Maybe it was some offhand comment initially. Them just chatting and her breaching the subject of why he came to work at the institute of all places and Tim just flippantly saying it had something to do with his brother. Not going into detail, but Sasha’s perceptive enough to pick up on the fact that there’s more to it than his brother just being interested in the supernatural or something

It doesn’t help that she didn’t even know he had a brother before that comment. And when she asks why Tim’s never brought him up in their, what, few months of knowing each other, his shrug and laugh come off as more defensive than anything else

Maybe that’s her first glimpse into the masks he wears. Or maybe she’s picked up on it before, when he bristles when one of their coworkers call all the statements drunken bullshit. Or when his eyes are glazed over after reading what should have been a simple statement followup

Either way, slipping Danny into conversation isn’t something Tim’s done since the incident. And once he does it the first time… he finds he keeps slipping up. Mentioning him offhandedly, whether it be something Danny would have found funny, bringing up his many hobbies, and, gradually, telling her about some memories here and there

He never directly says he’s dead in those few months, but he doesn’t have to for her to know. The way he speaks in past-tense, or his smiles grow a bit sadder. It’s not how someone would talk about a person that was still around

When he doesn’t show to work randomly in the middle of one week, she gets the urge to reach out and does, and he ends up inviting her over. He’s more subdued than usual when she gets there, and halfway through some shit movie they put on in the background, she notices he’s sniffling

When she calls him out, she’s met with a weak scoff at first. Some bullshit about something in his eye, or how the movie’s boring him to tears. But when she hugs him, he breaks down fully

When he finally calms down, it’s with a mumbled confirmation of what she’d already figured out. That it’s the anniversary of his brother’s death. And when she asks what happened, he just… tells her everything. About Grimaldi, the building, what he saw… everything.

She doesn’t know what to say when he’s done. And frankly, neither does he. The credits are rolling on the film they forgot to pause, and they just sit there.

When he scoffs in an attempt to gain back some face and says something about her not needing to believe him, already deflecting it away, she just shakes her head. Because for some reason, one she can’t place, she does believe him.

Him and Sasha get closer in the weeks following, and drink a little too much one night, and when they’re both sober again and laying in the same bed the next morning, things already awkward as-is, Tim clears his throat and cringes when he points out the shirt Sasha had haphazardly grabbed to sleep in the night prior was one of Danny’s old ones

Unfortunately, pine as he might after that night, that was awkward enough to entirely deter him from making another advance for a while.

They never did get their next few ‘seasons’ of on and off romance

When he brings up Danny offhandedly sometime after the worm attack, he gets this weird sense of deja vu when Sasha’s brow furrows, and she just asks “who?”

He tells her that’s not funny, and she apologizes, patting his shoulder and chuckling lightly as she walks off, making some comment about him being too sensitive. The entire interaction leaves a bitter taste in his mouth, but thinking too hard about it feels like it’ll give him a headache, so he shakes it off as everything being a little uneasy these days

Why is it still raining?

The first thing that stand's out to me is Nikola stating that she is only Grimaldi for special occasion's, like when she killed Danny.

So that leaves the question: Why was Danny special enough to be Grimaldi for? While that's not answered in the series, personally I think there are some implications that Danny might have been more involved with fears than Tim was aware of. My "proof" of this idea is that's a lot of weird circumstantial evidence that just seems...off. For example:

A: Tim says that Danny was the face of a gym for a few month's. The only other time a gym is mentioned in the series is when a women gives her statement about a gym run by Jared Hopworth.

B: There's a weird amount of parallel's between Tim and Danny's story, and the story of the Mother who watched her son be eaten by the sky. For example: In both episode's, Tim/The Mother says that their relative would go a long time without talking to them directly, but that they would always keep them up to date on their latest obsessions. In that same episode there's also the parallel of Tim/The Mother having their relative randomly show up at their doorstep after having a traumatic experience.

C: One of Danny's interests were sailing. Which, isn't weird on it's own, but this is TMA we're talking about. Sailing could easily corelate with The Vast. What makes this idea even more interesting is that, like I said above, Tim's statement about Danny parallel's a statement about a son being eaten by the sky.

D: Danny had an interest in ghost buildings and said they were “crumbling pieces of history desperately clinging onto existence." That...seems like a concept that could possibly be linked to The Extinction. Tim points out that The Covent Garden Theatre had been destroyed by a fire twice. That could be linked to The Desolation. Danny going UNDER the theater could also be linked to The Buried.

E: Tim says that Danny said the name "Joey" when he showed up in his living room. Joey is one of the few names we don't see in the series, but Joey could easily be a nickname for "Joseph." Like, for example...Joseph Grimaldi. I think it's interesting that Danny might have mentioned Joseph by first name considering he's mentioned by last name for most of the series.

F: There's also the fact that Danny even wanted to check out a building made by Smirke in the first place. While it could be a coincidence, it is something to think about considering everything else I've mentioned. Maybe it was just a coincidence, but maybe he had an interest in his work for a reason.

G: Danny's skin being pulled off is described as "It was like an impressionist painting of a dancer, all colors and shapes that made you feel movement you couldn’t see. Silently, imperceptibly, moving from one position to another. The music had stopped and the dance was silent." It doesn't seem right that Danny's death is compared to a dance considering we know a dance is linked to The Stranger's ritual. There's also the fact that Tim doesn't remember anything after that other than walking out of the theater, he's disoriented in the same way we saw that The Stranger's ritual makes someone disoriented.
