Harry Potter book series from A to Z:
[F] - Frank Longbottom
giarosmertaâ:
âYou are my new best friend.â Gianna laughed. âI have been trying to tell them that since day one, but do you think anyone listens to me? No.â She huffed playfully, rolling her eyes. âI do! Leaky Cauldron, eh? Not a bad gig. Maybe Iâll have to come by more often.â She winked, clinking her glass against his as the bartender brought their drinks over. âYeah!â She paused, thinking for a second. âA Gryffindor, right? Nice to meet you, Frank. Or, well, re-meet you, I guess.â
ââWelcome to the squad.ââ Frank Laughed, running a hand through his hair. ââSounds like youâve come to the right place. Iâm full of bad ideas these days!ââ He shook his head; taking another long gulp from his pint.  ââI used to be an auror; yâknow before all of this. Itâs fine for now; pays the bills and keeps me busy.ââ Frank shrugs his shoulders, letting out a soft sigh. ââI was indeed; back in the day. Feels like a lifetime ago. Nice to re-meet you too! Howâs the festival treated you?ââ
frtsqâ:
âSure hope it doesnât have any actual tails in it,â though knowing the Wizarding World, it was a definite possibility. âMaybe I am trying to get into your pants! Maybe youâve caught me! Whatever shall I do now,â she teased as they walked, sticking her tongue out. Though, she heard his concerns and his comment about listening in on conversations. It was something she admired about Frank, something that also echoed within herself â making the best out of situation that was otherwise intolerable. It inspired her to keep going, even when she just wanted to leave it all, escape and see the world. âOH? Have you heard anything juicy yet? Anything helpful from listening in on those conversations?â Alice was genuinely curious, though she imagined he probably heard a lot of stupid conversations in between all the interesting ones. âBut Iâve got to check on Aster! I miss Aster, too. I canât just leave him alone all night. He needs me to cuddle him to sleep, heâs very sensitive that way.â
ââI donât think it does... but now you mention it, Iâm liking the prospect of this beer less and less.ââ Frank furrowed his eyebrows in her direction; a look of shock spreading over his features. ââObviously the only option is the follow through; if you wanted in my pants all you ever had to do was ask.ââ Frank admitted; somewhat truthfully and mostly because he was inebriated. But he couldnât quite stop his drunken mind getting a little carried away with itself and imaging all sorts of possibilities and scenarios. It wasnât until she spoke again that he was pulled from his own thoughts; and straight back to reality. The reality wherein he was doing a job he hated; on the off chance that it might be helpful, thus far it had not even been remotely helpful. ââNot a scratch Iâm afraid; I think my code kind of limits what people say around me, even when I ply them with more alcohol.ââ Frank let out an small laugh at her mention of Aster; pulling her close again for a moment before taking her hand and picking up their pace. ââWell when you put it like that; we havenât got time to waste.ââ Frank did a clumsy drunken half run towards the Portkeys. Before stopping in front of the selection. ââWhich one do we think is to London?ââ He asked, cocking his head to the side.

marymacdnldâ:
One task that Mary always took upon herself was trying to make sure that her friends had a good time. Everything was so⌠serious, and she fully understood that. That was their reality, and there was no getting around it. However, that didnât mean she couldnât still try and bring a little light to the lives around her. To make sure that the bad stuff didnât consume them, that sometimes, they could just be. It was important to her that those she loved knew they were safe, and Frank was certainly no exception to that. Approaching him with bright eyes, plenty of alcohol already in her system, a grin immediately appeared as he spoke.
There was the Frank she knew and loved.
âAbsolutely, you know I can never turn down free drinks.â Not one of her better traits, perhaps, but at least she was self-aware.
ââThere she is, the light of my life. The wind beneath my wingsââ Frank beamed at Mary, as he motioned to the bar tender to get them two more beerâs. ââThe one and the only Mary MacDonald.ââ He wrapped an arm around her shoulders pulling her closer and pressing a soft kiss to her head. It was nice to see his friends like this. So carefree; almost as is they were normal young people; rather than the worry riddled people theyâd become. Â
Frank handed her the second beer as he took a long gulp from his own pint. ââSo tell me MacDonald, howâs the festival treated you? Got any gossip or good stories to report?ââÂ
frtsqâ:
âOOO, youâve got to tell me which kind â maybe we can bottle it?â Getting excited at the idea, Alice smiled and starting bouncing in her toes, thinking about the next night in theyâd have hopefully with the ale that Frank liked. âI will say though you hate your job you are one of the most handsome bartenders in the world and you deserve to have fun too. You know youâre always allowed to come work at Fortescueâs if the bar life is too much for you. In case you want to have a big dramatic moment when you quit,â Alice looked around for the uncle Frank mentioned, then looked at her watch, realizing it was later than she realized. âI think heâs got to have left? Shit, shit, okay, weâll figure this out â letâs go to the otherside of the field?â Walking that way, Alice pulled Frank by the shirt, âwe need to catch one before itâs too late.â
ââItâs like white tail or something like that; I donât remember, but I could definitely point out the bottle.ââ Frank slurred his words as they walked through the crowds at the festival; his arm tightening round her shoulders. ââListen to you; you know if I didnât know you better. Iâd say you were trying to get into my pants Fortescue. I do hate my job; but itâs a good place to listen in on conversations.ââ Frank admitted, smiling at her for a minute. It would be lovely to work with Alice; instead of pulling pints in a dreary pub. ââHowever, that is a lovely thought. Thank you very much for the offer.ââ Frank followed her gaze; letting out a laugh when she started to panic. ââAli; itâs fine. Weâll sort something, weâre not going to be stuck in a field. Thereâs beds here for people who canât get home. So if weâre stuck we can just sleep here. Itâs fine!!ââ He protested as she pulled him over the field towards where the portkeys back to London where going from.Â
giarosmertaâ:
Gianna had sauntered up to the bar for a water, originally, but the bartender was at the other end and she got entirely distracted when the man next to her started speaking. She was silent for a beat, chewing on the inside of her cheek as she thought. âI shouldnât.â She started, before a wide smile took over her features and she laughed once. âSo I will.â She hopped up onto the stool before her, tapping her fingers restlessly against the bar and offering him the other. âGianna. You look familiar - have we met?âÂ
ââSee itâs when you think that you shouldnât, thatâs when you absaloutely most certainly should!ââ Frank let out a laugh; quickly ordering them two beers. Frank smile at Gianna as she spoke, shaking the hand that was offered to him.  ââYou have the Broomsitcks right? Iâm Frank; I work in the Leaky Cauldron.ââ He stated; with a soft shrug of his shoulders. ââYouâre around my age? Maybe you just remember my face from school? Iâve been told Iâm too tall and goofy to forget quickly.ââ
reginalxcâ:
He didnât know why heâd even walked into the bar. Reginald had just allowed himself to be swayed by the atmosphere, following the crows, enjoying the light ambient. Making his way to the bar, Reg wondered what non-alcholic drinks they might serve, if maybe he should, turn right around && escape while he could. âThanks, but no.ââ Came that instant response. âNot drinking tonight, have to work.â Came the mumbled excuse.
Frank couldnât help but raise an eyebrow at Reginald when he spoke.  ââI mean it doesnât have to be a beer? It could just be a water or a pumpkin juice. Was just trying to be nice.ââ Frank replied, rather disgruntled by the whole exchange; mostly because he was annoyed that Reginald actually got to do something important. While Frank was left in his dead end job, wishing he could do the thing he really wanted to.Â
âI fell by the wayside like everyone else I hate you, I hate you, I hateâ youâ but I wasâ just kidding myself Our every moment, Iâ start to replace âCause now that theyâre gone, all I hear are the words that I needed to say
When you hurt under the surface Like troubled water running cold Well, time can heal but this won'tâ

The party was alive and Frank was enjoying the freedom of it; even if it was most likely constructed to be a surveillance mission. Heâd taken up station at one of the bars; silently watching people as he had drink after drink. Not that he wasnât in the party mood; it was just a bd habit heâd formed over the years. Making himself as invisible as possible and watching life moving around him. He felt it best that he kept as low a profile as possible; he didnât want to bring any more unwanted attention his way. That was until someone approached him and the alcohol started to talk.Â
ââHow about a beer? My round?ââ He asked; gesturing towards the bartender.
đ If being friends with someone who is ten times cooler than you ('someone' being me) hard for your ego?
ââAbsolutely; 100 percent. Donât know how my heart can take it honestly.ââÂ
frtsqâ:
âYouâre DRUNK too? Merlinâs saggy ballsack, weâre doomed, I was counting on you, Longarse!â She teased, elbowing him softly before wrapping her arms around his torso. âBut I hope you had fun? I had fun. It was really nice to see almost everyone in one place, you know?â Nagging in the back of her mind, she thought about how it was smart of the Ministry to get them all together in one area, to keep a proper eye on them, but she pushed it away. Tonight didnât need to be about the great paranoia, the dark political climate, she could just think about being there with Frank. It was the end of the night, it should end on a high note. âAlright, alright, do you want to ask someone? There were portkeys by the Fortescue booth but they werenât going anywhere near London. I think.â
ââSorry small fry, I wasnât drinking and then I saw they had this pale ale that I like and I got carried away.ââ Frank leaned into her as they walked; his eyes searching around them as they moved through the crowd. ââI had a great night; it makes a change from pulling pints in the leaky cauldron. Thatâs for sure. Iâm glad you had fun; you deserve to have fun.ââ Frank caught a brief look on her face, and was going to question her on it but it was gone as soon as it had appeared. ââIâm sure thereâs someone whoâll be able to get us home. What about your uncle? Is he not headed back? Iâm sure there were some Portkeys going to London from the other side of the field?ââÂ
ludcvic-bvgmanâ:
Ludovic loved events and the moonlight festival was something that was right up his alley. He stood next to the opening of the Quidditch pitch, his broom in hand, trying his best to capture the attention of anybody that passed by him. âWho wants to race a professional Quidditch player? If you win, Iâll buy you a drink!â He called out in to the crowd, hoping someone would take him up on his offer.
It was nice to pretend like everything was normal; to escape into the moonlight festival for a little while anyway. At this point in the night; Frank had definitely spent a little too long at the bar. So when Ludo challenged the room to a race he couldnât help but weigh in. ââYouâve got yourself a deal, but with one condition. How about, if I win. You buy a whole round of drinks for the bar?ââ Frank stood; raising an eyebrow at his friend.Â

âFRANK!â Alice yelled with the might of a tiny drunk person, because thatâs exactly what she was. Sheâd drunk what seemed like a never ending supply of alcohol after her shift. Sheâd danced, sheâd been able to make the best of a night that had otherwise given her a bad feeling. It was foolish, maybe, to allow herself this happiness â this escape â but she couldnât help it. The current state of things was bleak, she was no optimist, but she knew she had keep going any way she could â so she allowed herself this. âItâs so good to see you, I donât mean to be a party pooper or anything but can we go home? Iâm too drunk to apparate myself and I donât trust myself to find a portkey. I need to check on Aster, too. Iâm sure heâs fine but I just miss him. I miss a lot of things. I missed you.â
Frank hadnât intended to get as drunk as heâd gotten; but yet here he was pretty much holding himself up on the bar as he downed another beer, against all better judgement. He supposed that he was drinking to try and forget about all the shit that was going on; getting fired from his job and his perpetual regression into himself. When he heard Alice calling from behind him; he immediately turned to face her. A bright smile evident on his face; ââAlice!!ââ He wrapped an arm around her shoulders, pulling her in close. His nose pressed into her hair; breathing in deeply for a moment.  ââI missed you too small fry; of course we can go home. I donât know how weâre getting home though; Iâm sure I saw a portkey somewhere around here?ââ
â 27 years old â Cis male, he/him â Pureblood â Member of The Order â Code 4
His father left 3 days after his second birthday, for reasons his mother has never told him. Frank doesnât have any memory of his father or what he looked like as he never came back to visit Frank or made any effort to contact his son. The only thing Frank really knew about his Father was that he was an Auror. Itâs the only thing his mother ever told him, he was an auror and his work always came first. When Frank was 12 he found a photo of a man holding him as a baby, on the back it said Robert With Frank 1957. He took the photo to his mother, who confirmed it to be his dad.
As a child Frank felt this constant need to please his mother, he assumes it was something to do with the fact he was scared if he displeased her, she would leave too. As it turned out, Frank actually really enjoyed learning and tended to pick things up quickly, so his mother enrolled him in pureblood etiquette classes a couple years earlier than most children his age and hired a governess to tutor Frank. His governess was terrifying but she pushed him to learn, between Rosemerta and his mother there was almost no male or fatherly influence in his early life. When he was 10 his mother started grooming him for a job at the ministry, taking him to dinners and getting him writing letters to people in the ministry.
When Frank started school, everything changed. Â Suddenly he was thrust from his bubble and actually had the chance to have experiences that were out-with education, or pleasing his mother all the time. Of course his education still took a forefront and he was always working to pass. Knowing that failure would surely be followed by a howler from his mother about letting her down. Frank also wanted to do well, although he was unsure as to where his life was headed, he knew that getting good grades would be able to give him a wider base of opportunity. He became a lot more carefree he stopped caring about what everyone thought of him, that everyone wanted him to be a certain way and decided that instead of caring heâs just being himself, that was surely the best way to live and if anyone cared about it they didnât matter.
The summer before his seventh year, he met his father for the first time. He was in the Leaky Cauldron with friends and he came in. Frank didnât recognize the man at first, but then someone called out âLongbottom where you been!â and Franks head shot up, he saw the man who had come in laugh and go over to the person whoâd shouted and it all clicked into place, he kept the photo in his wallet, so he brought it out. The man was his father. His friends, encouraged him to go over and talk to him, and beside his better judgement he did. Only for the man to stare at him like he could see right through him. Franksâs father had no idea who he was, and it broke his heart. Frank just left without saying anything and tried to never waste his time thinking about his absent father again. Until 4 weeks later, when Robert Longbottom was killed on an auror mission. Frank attended the funeral. Â Yes, heâd been an absent father, but he was still his dad. His death didnât really affect Frank at all, it was the fact that Robert Longbottom, left his entire estate to Frank. Along with a letter, filled with apologies about being absent and how much he should have been there, but felt heâd left it too late. This was what affected Frank, he didnât understand how a man could be absent for 18 years and then leave everything to a child he never knew. In the letter it explained how Augusta had kept him up to date with Franks progress over the years, he said how proud of Frank he was, how proud of the man heâd become. It made Frank angry, that he thought it was okay to do any of this. When Frank told Augusta, she was equally as angry, angry that heâd gotten all her letters that heâd known about Frank, where he was, what he was doing and just hadnât done anything. Not having a father, has not affected Frank in any way. He would never say it has worsened his life in any way, heâs never wanted for anything and his mother was all the parent he ever needed, he wouldnât trade his life for the world.Frank is a little bit of a gentle giant, fighting isnât exactly his style. During school, he always received exemplary grades but Frank had no idea what he wanted to do with his life. He floated around doing various bits and pieces for a while before fate stepped in, war broke and suddenly Frank knew where his place was and what he had to do. So he decided that he wanted to sign up for Auror training, Frank had spent his whole life trying to be nothing like his father, or his motherâs interpretation of his father, and suddenly he was going to have to live up to the reputation of a man he never knew. Frank goes out of way to try and show everyone that heâs not his father, but has accepted the fact that in the Auror department, heâs always going to be Robert Longbottomâs son, even if it had never felt like it. Frank worked himself into the ground to be the best auror he could be. Staying up late at night to practice or to go out on non-sanctioned missions to try and gain the favour and respect of his peers. Working his way through the ranks as he tried his hardest to rid himself of the man heâs never knowns shadow. Â
When the ministry fell; it felt like a whole new low point. Â At least for Frank; everything theyâd been working towards crumbled in a matter of hours. Even as a pureblood; working under Yaxleys rule was difficult to say the least. Frank; being more vocal about it all, was one of the first people to lose his job; he was lucky to be left with his life and his freedom. To make ends meet, Frank works as a bar-keep in the Leaky Cauldron. Working with the order behind the scenes to continue his work from before this twisted turn of events. Â
