Since 1 January 2023, the archive of nature photographer Richard Tepe has entered the public domain. Tepe is among the first Dutch nature photographers. The earliest known shots date from the period 1898-1902. In these early years, he concentrated mainly on bird photography and can be considered the founder of this genre in the Netherlands. Tepe died in 1952, which means the copyright restrictions on his works expired this year. The archive of Richard Tepe (1864-1952) is managed by the Nederlands Fotomuseum and includes more than 3,000 fragile glass plates.
