I Due Silenzi opens with an archival image in which the bodies have been erased by a white mark. From this initial absence, the project moves through places marked by the Nazi-Fascist retreat in the final days of the war, observing the contemporary landscape as a repository of submerged traces and unresolved tensions.
The video made in Pedescala closes this gesture: the white smoke recalls the burned houses and bodies, but also that first act of erasure. It does not reconstruct the event; it lets it surface for an instant, as a temporary presence that crosses the landscape and dissolves.
I Due Silenzi is also a self-published photobook, available through the shop on this website.
I Due Silenzi is a photobook by Emanuele Tortora on landscape, memory, and the traces of history in everyday places.
