When I can choose to identify as cis and therefore gain the privileges of that class I will accept that transness is an identity with no requirements beyond verbal announcement.
Transgender youth who take puberty-delaying hormone treatments are more likely to be happier when they fully transition, according to a new study.
The study found that starting on hormone replacements around age 14 resulted in better mental health for trans youth, and that they had an easier time transitioning into their lived and true gender identity later on.
âThe first thing this study shows is that transgender young people, with appropriate treatment, can function at the same psychological level as the rest of the population,â Jenifer McGuire, co-author of the study, told BuzzFeed News. âThey have the same distribution as everyone else when theyâre treated properly.â
The Dutch study, which involved 22 transgender men and 33 transgender women, found that because of the early hormone treatment, the participants ultimately had no more emotional distress, anxiety, or issues with body image than their peers in the general population after they had transitioned. They also required less gender reassignment surgery, as physical characteristics that develop during puberty were suppressed.
Studies like this are so, so important because they add another layer of credibility to the work we already know is important. We know one of the ways to help trans youth become their true selves as happily and healthily as possible, and the research clearly shows that we should keep doing it.Â
I know at least one of my followers was asking about this sort of thing and I had no data. Here is a thing.
it really irks me how obsessed with assigned at birth sex tumblr is. like, I constantly see non-binary people getting messages asking if theyâre âdfab or dmabâ and like who the fuck cares. If my opinion is only valid to you if I have a certain set of genitals, fuck off. if you care so much about whatâs between a personâs legs, youâre no better than a fucking transphobe.
idk why people want HRT, personally i think itâs gross, but i think for a lot of nondysphoric DFAB people its internalized misogyny
You really have no understanding of trans issues in the slightest.
I have no clue of how anyone can take her seriously at all at this point. The fact that she has such a cult following scares me. Like LEGIT scares me.
HRT did not cure my dysphoria, far from it, but at least now I donât spend everyday considering suicide, which is what I used to do pre-HRT because of how badly female hormones fucked with my brain. There was a CONSTANT sense of âwrong, wrong, WRONG something is HORRIBLY WRONG and I cannot copeâ. Now that feeling is limited to when I acknowledge the presence of my sexed characteristics, which is something I try to ignore as much as possible.
Protip: If you donât understand how important HRT is for trans people maybe you should shut the fuck up about trans issues.Â

this is what i just picked up from the grocery store. it cost $32. Thirty. two. dollars. for 1 pineapple, 2 bags of grapes, a small container of raspberries, 1 soft drink and 2/$1 nutsâŚ.Â
do you know how much junk food i could have for $32? do you have any clue how much McDonaldâs you can get for $32?
stop shaming fat people poorer than you or people poorer than you in general for not eating healthier. stop lying about how cheap it is or how itâs comparable to fast food. just stop.
!!!!!!!
This is especially nothing when you take into consideration the amount youâd have to eat for it to be considered as a lunch option. These are at best..snacks for a week if they donât rot before then.
I wonder where this person lives, like is there a lot of difficulty transporting food to where they are? Those peanuts are 2/$1, and let's say that grapes are really freaking expensive and $5 a bag. That's $11 so far.Â
Let's say the soft drink bottle's from a convenience store at the expensive price of $4. This makes $15 so far.Â
Raspberries? I've never bought one for this much anywhere, but how about $5 a box. Pineapple? I'll be generous and say $7 per thing, because it must be super organic and give back money to its source land or something. This adds up to a grand total of $27, with ridiculous prices for everything except for the packaged nuts, because the price is literally right there in the photo.Â
Huh.Â

family ramblesÂ
my parents don't talk much on their lives when they were teenagers/young adultsÂ
from what i can piece together from the things i've managed to hear about my father's life, he was a chill dude who was in garage bands with neighborhood friends and liked to spend summers at lakes and see bands like queen in high school and he dated another guy for a while when he was around 18Â
and now he's, like, saying he basically prayed the gay away and he talks in such a disgusted tone about anything that comes up involving a gay person and he's very religiousÂ
he's who i don't want to grow up to be
i'm bisexual and if not for the whole trans thing, i bet i would have gone along with suppressing my homosexual tendencies or whatever in order to line up with the lifestyle my ex church community expected from me
and that really kinda...is heartbreakingÂ
anyway, i'm staying with my parents on and off for the rest of the year (crashing at a friends' place whenever i can, but i still like to see my cats and have a heated place to sleep once in a while with food i don't have to pay for) and it's so, so, sodsosoosososfjoig so awkward being around my fatherÂ
the last thing he said to me about my gender stuff was that he realizes i'm an adult and that he respects my choices or whateverÂ
and that was like, april
and before that, it was august of 2012 that he said he was sure i'd get over everything and find a nice christian man to marry
he doesn't even know about my boyfriend of about a year and a half, who is long distance but we can drive to see each other if we both don't have to work and have the gas money and time to drive all dayÂ
i just don't know how to go about talking about my being a man with my father or how to get him to grasp that i'm in a homosexual relationship or that i'm still spiritual without lining up with the religion i was raised withÂ
so i avoid it all
and it's not working
(((((((i haven't slept in a while and i like to ramble on when i'm tired, and i think there's a ton of read mores saying stuff like this sentence, now that i think about it)))))))))))))))))))))))))))

i feel so bad for all the young trans boys/trans men who go to this site looking to be accepted but instead they find a bunch of people telling them that they should just  âchoose not to be maleâ and that âbeing a man is harmfulâÂ

Letâs stop HIV in New York City
If you are HIV-negative, PEP and PrEP can help you stay that way.
If you are HIV-positive, PEP and PrEP can help protect your partners.
 Daily PrEP
PrEP is a daily pill that can help keep you HIV-negative as long as you take it every day.
Ask your doctor if PrEP (Pre-exposure Prophylaxis) may be right for you.
Condoms give you additional protection against HIV, other sexually transmitted infections, and unintended pregnancy.
 Emergency PEP
If you are HIV-negative and think you were exposed to HIV, immediately go to a clinic or emergency room and ask for PEP (Post-exposure Prophylaxis).
PEP can stop HIV if started within 36 hours of exposure.
You continue taking PEP for 28 days.
Many insurance plans including Medicaid cover PEP and PrEP. Assistance may be available if you are uninsured. Visit NYC Healthâs website to find out where to get PrEP or PEP in New York City.
