6/2 = 3 3(3) = 1

Though I just realized that you get the same answer if you add the parentheses with the preceding number and then that’s the actual number you divide with. That sounds more right, actually…

But yeah I was just being introduced to pemdas when I stopped doing math and I don’t remember if it was in the GED tests but I barely passed the math test anyway lmfao

Actually I just remembered yeah, you do the parentheses first anyway so you couldn’t actually divide the answers like I said at first. Maybe you’re supposed to add the answers rather than divide them? Lol I’m not gonna delete that first part even though i easily could to look smarter than I am, for some reason I feel like keeping my thought process.

So I guess it’s more like…

(1+2 = 3) 6/2 = 3 3+3 = 6

…… Wait, now what do I do. How does 6 get divided by itself when I already divided it by 2. Fuck.

So we have two of the same “level” - Division & Multiplication, we work from left to right. Division: 6/2 = 3

So we have it down to: 3*3

So then we can make the general assumption,

Now, here is where everyone is getting tripped up. This is where PEMDAS is extremely important. Multiplication MUST be performed before division expect in the case of parenthesis or an exponent. A visualization of the proper way to look at it is shown below. Note that we separate our terms into the numerator and denominator for a quick realization about which terms we need to multiply and/or divide first.

And that’s how you prove that 6/2*(2+1) = 1. Your calculators are giving you errors for a different reason. princessharam Made an error by forcing their calculator to obey PEMDAS in a different manner, namely by putting parenthesis around the 6/2, which forces the calculator to obey the ‘P’ in PEMDAS, and perform division first, which is an entirely different problem.

You can tell if that’s the case by checking the same web page on a different browser if you have a different number of stored cookies for that site. I checked something on Chegg and it was $14.95 on Chrome, $19.95 on Firefox, and $16.95 on Safari.

The fix? Clear your cookies for that website.
