If more than one player is selecting a character in Mario Kart 64, pressing A, then B, and then a direction on the Control Stick in very rapid succession will cause the character under the selection cursor to act as though being selected, but not actually being selected (as the cursor then jumps to an adjacent character).

Note all the racers that the Player 1 cursor touches in the footage acting as though they were selected and remaining in those animations, but only Bowser actually being selected in the end. Characters in that glitched state will return to their normal idle animation if any player's cursor passes over them again.
