Indio Solari, one of our greatest musicians, passed away yesterday 🇦🇷 🕊️

That video was filmed in Tandil (Buenos Aires province) in 2016, at his penultimate concert, which drew a crowd of around 200,000 people.

The following year, he bid farewell to the stage in Olavarría (Buenos Aires province), due to the progression of his Parkinson’s disease, in front of an audience of over 400,000.

In 1975, he co-founded the band “Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota”, better known as “Los Redondos”. Although he really shot to fame in the late 70s/early 80s.

The last military dictatorship in Argentina took place between 1976 and 1983. The military seized power by force and, for years, they banned and “disappeared” people, ideas and art. Los Redondos’ music arrived as an act of rebellion, and history has dubbed it the ‘best pogo in the world’ (a pogo is what you see in the video above: jumping and total chaos).

Their music and impact stem from the Argentine people’s need to rebel and fight, to shout, to make noise, to create the chaos that had been so strictly forbidden. That’s where that euphoria comes from: that desire to come together and go wild.

He described himself as a left-wing artist and opposed neoliberalism and the current right-wing government. This is him with the campaign scarf of the “National Campaign for Legal, Safe and Free Abortion” in 2018. Signed with “Que sea Ley” (let it be law).
