this cracked me up so bad 😭 a very funny idea, dear Anon, what can I say

imagine Valarr and Matarys are sent to spent summer at Summerhall (and the butter is buttery...) and one of the younger kids, Egg or Rhae, is supposed to get their annual vaccines and they're like "what's that???"

that's how Maekar finds out that his older brother apparently does not believe in vaccines because of some bullshit like idk nanobots in your system...

suddenly it all makes a lot of sense to Maekar, his nephew's were always sickly but now at least there's a reason to it (he probably does wonder how did they survive that long and is a bit impressed)

he tried to talk it out with Jena but she's some sort of an almond mom Yolanda Hadid type shi and it's no use really, she and Baelor are matching on that field, and so instead of trying to talk some sense into any of them he takes matters in his own hands, he won't let those kids suffer because their parents are idiots

so he asks Baelor if the boys can come over bc their cousins really wanted to have a sleepover or whatever, and Baelor agrees because there's nothing weird about that? but instead of a sleepover, it's Maekar taking Valarr and Matarys to finally get vaccinated... (how did he do that? idk, faked Baelor's signature? took them to a friend who wouldn't say a word and just do the deed?)

when Baelor finds out, he's devastated, yelling at Maekar, saying some more bullshit about how his sons are now microchipped etc, etc

but ultimately, they reconcile

until years later, they have a kid together (idk man, let's say it's omegaverse because I need it for the plot, or maybe they adopted okay?)

and it's the same story all over again, with Baelor sending Maekar HUNDREDS of articles about why vaccines are actually bad, how they're endangering the child by doing so, and Maekar is just fed up, so he ends it all with one argument he used years ago

which is, Baelor himself is vaccinated and look how well did he grow up.

He decides to leave LA altogether and buy some land just want to enjoy early retirement

He hears about a local farmer having gay sheep who don’t mate and hes looking for either somebody to take them or a slaughterhouse

Tommy takes them in even tho he has no stable, no food for them, nothing

It takes him a few days to put something together

And months later he has 6 sheep, 2 old cows and three retired breeding dogs when Buck knock on his door looking for work after being a ranch hand and looking for something smaller and he heard of Tommy taking old or animals that are judged “different” and he wants to help

Well, that happened to me with a post from a Tumblr user (I don't remember their name, so all credit goes to them) where they described how Maekar, in a way, is jealous of Valarr because he feels Valarr has taken away Maekar's attention and place in Bealor's life. And I must admit that I love this trope because of the anguish, pain, and difficult-to-accept feelings it generates simply by reading it, but at the same time it makes me think of countless other possibilities for why Maekar dislikes or dislikes his nephew Valarr instead of Bealor being the reason.

What if the reason Maekar dislikes Valarr isn't because he took his place in Bealor's life, but because Valarr inherited Bealor's worst qualities (in addition to the good ones, of course)? His complacency, his ego (and Maekar admits he's also egotistical, but Baelor surpasses him), his (erroneous) conviction that he's doing the right thing at the expense of others, and that simply by being the heir he knows better, his blindness to his own mistakes, and many other things make Maekar feel like he's reliving his youth.

Even though he knows it's unfair to burden a son with the sins of his father, he can't help but feel repulsion and rejection for every trait of Baelor's personality that he sees reflected so strongly in his nephew. Maekar believed he was doing the Valar a favor by keeping his distance; he was his nephew, and after all, he loved him. But the difference was obvious when Maekar interacted with Aelor, Aelora, and Daenora. Even the affection he had for his other nephew, Matarys, was noticeable. But Maekar couldn't force himself (even if he wanted to) to have a closer relationship with the Valarr, and everyone—the royal family, the villagers, and everyone else—noticed the rejection (to put it mildly) that Daeron II's fourth son showed toward his nephew.

Baelor often wanted to talk to Maekar about this or call his attention to his "selfish and childish" attitude toward the Valarr, but when he finally grew tired of seeing Maekar neglect the Valarr to be affectionate with his other nephews and tried to put a stop to it, he was immediately stopped by Daeron II, who told him that he was explicitly forbidden from demanding or questioning Maekar.

Although it was clear that Maekar didn't have the same closeness with the Valarr as he did with his other nephews, he had never treated him discourteously or rudely, and Baelor should (and had to, because it was a direct order from his king) leave things as they were.

Daeron II knew he was being unfair to his eldest son by not giving him an explanation or reason why he shouldn't seek retribution for the treatment his grandson was receiving from Maekar.

What father wouldn't do the same? But at the same time, Daeron II couldn't force his youngest son to feign ignorance and act like the best person when Daeron II himself could so clearly see how the worst traits and qualities of his eldest son were reflected in his grandson, and what this caused Maekar.

His fourth son fulfilled his responsibilities to the family and the kingdom, bowing his head and carrying on as he had to in his youth. (Daeron II is not blind, nor will he ever be. He saw from afar the love that Baelor and Maekar shared in their youth. He also saw how Maekar hoped his elder brother would appeal to that love when the possibility of a marriage between Baelor and Lady Jena Dondarrion was raised, and how all of Maekar's hope was shattered when he saw and heard Baelor say nothing and simply accept.

With this, Daeron II doesn't mean he expected his eldest son to shirk his responsibilities, but rather that he perfectly understood what Maekar felt at that moment: the heartbreaking certainty of understanding that the words of a loved one are not the same as actions, and that it doesn't matter how much you bleed for that person if, in the end, they won't show even a fraction of what you are willing to give when it truly matters.

He’s sat there, grappling with the fact that he just killed his own brother. By all rights, he should blame Aerion for starting this mess, for attacking the puppet girl. But he doesn’t. He seems to blame Ser Duncan, but that’s Targaryen honor talking. He knows it’s Aerion’s fault— and so it’s ultimately his own fault.

He didn’t intend to kill Baelor. He loved Baelor. He and his brother were close. Their relationship was strong and built on years of trust and friendship.

And then Egg comes in. And he’s clearly here to kill his brother. And the look the Maekar gives him…

Incredulous, and in disbelief. Not “what are you doing” but “Could you? Would you really?” And he already knows the answer.

How did this happen? How are his sons strangers to one another— worse than strangers— when he and Baelor were so beloved to one another? How is it that he’s grieving the death of his brother so wholeheartedly while his sons plot fratricide?

It’s no wonder he talks so fiercely about ‘Blood of the Dragon’ and Targaryen honor when he sees it put under so much strain.

This scene is so good. It’s so good that it makes that final scene, where Egg sneaks off without his father’s permission, mildly infuriating. Because it’s so so clear that this moment is pivotal. That no matter what Maekar’s first reaction is to hearing Dunk’s condition to take Egg to squire, he’d come back to this moment and ultimately change his mind.

All of that while he was studying, then dealing with his addiction, now going through his fourth year residency for the second time, and then he's gonna become a "grown up" doctor and will, perhaps, be missing for longer?

Frank doesn't seem to respect his wife (anymore?), but his kids are his world. Except if he was asked to choice between the kids and medicine, he MIGHT choose the kids, but it would pain him greatly. He loves being a doctor. He IS a good doctor. So even then I'm not sure that he'd walk away from medicine, because he was and still IS working hard to "graduate". Because it's borderline just as, if not more important to him.

He's balancing the heck out of his relationship with his kids, his wife, his work, the work team and especially his boss (Robby means a lot to him, whether people like it or not)—the best he can.

Frank Langdon is truly trying.
