Some of my old adopt bases that I no longer use, so I'm making them free to use :> These can be edited with terts, skin/accents, or whatever, just please keep my sig/ID number intact and visible
And a link to the thread wit all my free to use stuff :3
Headcanon: Gembond Strains
Alright, so we all know that Gembond is at once a gene and a disease.
I’ve always had it in my head that the reason this is relatively acceptable is that gembond comes in many strains, from devastating to relatively harmless.
The one I mentioned in my last mini lorepost for Annalise, Bubonic Gembond, was simply an idea for one of the worst versions. This form of Gembond tends to cluster around lymph nodes, erupting into large and painful buboes after an incubation period within the lymphatic system. This strain has come to have many nicknames: glitterweep, brittlewarts, and glasspus being some notable ones. What the nicknames allude to is the nature of the “gems” themselves.
Aside from the titular buboes, Bubonic Gembond is most notable for the brittleness of the “gems”. Any movement or tug of the dragon’s skin can make one shatter, leaking out pus and causing extreme pain for the poor afflicted being.
Unfortunately, this also makes this strain especially easy to pass on to others, as if any dragons attempting to soothe or treat the afflicted manage to get it in their eyes, mouth, nostrils, etc, they are highly likely to contract the illness as well.
Bubonic Gembond was, for a very long time, notable for its high mortality rate. Clans who had a member that contracted the disease were exiled en masse to prevent an epidemic from breaking out, with every other member assumed to be infected as well.
A vaccine has recently been released that prevents the worst of the disease from taking hold in most patients, and thus drastically increased survival rate.
Dragons who have recovered from Bubonic Gembond tend to have lasting scars; their hides rarely ever heal fully. It’s uncommon, though not unheard of, for dragons who survived the disease to develop large, opalized scars over previous affected areas.
Profile image for my g1 gal Annalise.
I stuck her actual dragon next to it because tumblr was blowing the image up so badly. x:
Aand character info.
Annalise is a virologist who initially specialized in the surprisingly varied array of diseases that could be contracted in and around the Wyrmwound. She became notable not only for her dedication to her work, but stringent hygienic practices that left her miraculously unaffected by the miasma of disease she worked within.
At some point during her early career she opted to have her antennae docked, as she realized that the suffering of her subjects patients was impacting her ability to work.
After refining a cure for a particularly painful strain of the Gembond disease (Bubonic Gembond, colloquially known as brittlewarts or glitterweep,) she began to attract attention for her work.
This led to her being contracted by Amberspire as Head Virologist.
Though she was initially under the belief that she would be living on the castle grounds, after a week’s stay and several meetings with the clan’s true head she agreed to relocate to the remote outpost and underground laboratory the clan founded deep within the Snowquall tundra.
There, alongside only two others, she works on diseases far too dangerous to keep near any large group of dragons.
For cures, surely.
Top 5 dragons that don't usually show up in your comics?
Oh that is such a fun one! Thank you! ^^
Uhhh let's see...
Skittles' wife Artemis! Due to Arcane radiation she was born completely hairless and with a deformed back leg, which has since been amputated. She wears wigs to cover her baldness and gets around on only three legs just fine. She runs a matchmaking/wedding-planning service in my lair, and helps residents find and celebrate their romantic bonds
I draw Tripp and Aetherius being good childhood friends all the time, but I never draw them with their OTHER childhood friend, Rave! They all grew up together in the Starwood Strand, and I drew a few pictures of him on his own a few years ago but that was it! He is definitely underloved, I should really draw more of him now that I've recently given him a new gene makeover
Speaking of Aetherius, here's his girlfriend! You wouldn't know he even has one because I barely mention her, and have never drawn them together either! Echo is a Naomi-descendant who specialises in cryptids and eldritch beings and keeps Aethy mostly in-check, because one inter-dimensional portal in their living room is quite enough already
Flint is an elderly gunslinger and highwayman who taught Tripp and Jewel everything they know about stealing shit. He's almost 13 years old, and I've owned him for about 12 of those years... and I have never drawn him EVER... he could do with a makeover too, honestly, I don't think I've changed his genes since Scales was first released o-o;
Fern is probably my favourite dragon in my entire lair. She's an avid explorer and adventurer. She's the adopted daughter of Tripp & Jewel, which makes her sibling to Daff, Holly, Gumnut, Peepers, and Skittles, who I all drawn fairly regularly... and I think I've drawn Fern... once? Maybe? I can't even tell you why I never bother drawing her, I don't have a reason, it's bizarre! She is literally my favourite!! xD

wanted to try sketching an underwater scene so here’s my favourite fishy noodle kelp!! glub glub
You know, I didn't think I'd have any use for the weasels, but paralympian Champ having his own personal cheer squad is kinda cute
Bought this boy yesterday. He was...expensive (350 G) but worth it. Most expensive dragon I've bought recently.
Black/White XXY Harlequin/Jester/Eclipse, Light Common Imperial M
Also gave Cenotaph a deer. And removed their unlucky presence which I'm sad about but they looked too cluttered with it

Chorus Gene Preview
Parallel Gene Candlelight!
I love the description of the Cowmera:
Don’t discount this creature’s strength; each year in Sornieth, more dragons meet their end by Cowmera than by sharks!
What a neat reference to how more people die to cows than to sharks.

chorus emojis released!
Thank you for letting me know! Updated my prompts list! ^^
Also here's an alternate version without the Courier breed, because maybe people don't want to draw a Courier! Maybe you want to draw a Swiftwing, or an Emperor, or a Deity, or Frogfeet McStubbins! The choice is yours!
