Pulling out his money and sliding over was one of the easiest decisions yet. Devereaux would never see this new move coming, if he could actually master it. “Eet eez okay if you do, I ‘ave broken zem before.” Laure said as he offered out his hand. “But eet would make eet ‘arder to focus, I guess.”

    She smiled at Laure’s response, Daphne liked them. Their accent reminded Daphne of her mother, as well as the nonchalant reaction to possibly having their fingers broken. “You’re not wrong” Daphne replied as she took hold of Laure’s hand and proceeded to slowly walk them through the steps of the move until they ended up in the same position as the fine gentlemen had been in only moments before.

   “All you have to do is apply a little more pressure from here and they should start snapping like twigs” Daphne said, holding Laure’s hand in the position for a few moments longer, before letting go and offering her own hand. “your turn. Just don’t break my fingers. If anyone asks where you learnt how to do this, it wasn’t from me” Daphne added. Not because she didn’t want to be liable for whoever fingers would be broken because of this, but because she didn’t need any unneeded attention.

Daphne. The name conjured up images of water nymphs, of bright pink flowers - its petals dusted with dew.

He liked it.

“A name just as pretty as your face,” he said with a grin, ignoring the flush on his cheeks. He was being such a pretentious flirt, but he couldn’t help it.  

“I will ‘appily pay,” he said, sliding said two galleon (plus a few sickles, as a tip) across the counter, “And I will pay for your drinks, should you care to join me sometime.”

What was it his English friends said? ‘Shoot your shot’? He was certainly trying his best.

   Daphne scraped the money off the bar and into her hands without a word, rolling her eyes and letting out a light scoff at René‘s attempt to flirt. If her father had been here René would of been outside on his ass before the words had even left his mouth. Fortunately for René, her father was missing, and even though his words of flattery had been stupid corny at best.... Daphne did have to admit that they had worked on her to some degree. Enough for her to keep talking to him at least.

   “Good. Because the last guy who tried to avoid paying, left here with three broken fingers and a broken nose. I’d hate to do the same to you... you look fragile” Daphne teased back, pocketing the tip he had given her, and placing the rest of the money in the register. “I don’t drink, slows your reaction time. Sometimes that’s all it takes to put you in a shallow grave” she replied without thinking. It had been a lesson her father had taught her, before quickly smacking her on the back of the head and sending her promptly to the ground.... a lesson she would never forget.

“I’m… I’m stupid,” he said, gazing at her blankly. When he realised what he’d said, a moment later, he shook his head vehemently.

 “No, sorry - drunk. I’m drunk.” 

Though he was quickly sobering up. Making a fool of yourself in front of a pretty girl would do that to you.

“Pardon, I meant simply that we hadn’t met before,” he gave her a winning smile and held out his hand, “I am René. And you are?”

He was layering on the kind of charm he’d learned from Gilderoy. Not that it really helped - he was still a drunken idiot, and a slob. He doubted it had the same effect.

   Daphne couldn’t help but reply with a small smile, something she had done very little of since leaving the safety of the forest. However, somehow the bumbling, drunk, idiot across the bar from her had managed to coax one out of her. Daphne stared at René for a moment after he asked her for her name. It wasn’t something that she normally gave out a lot, however, there was something about him that made her ignore her own rule.

   “Daphne...” she replied as she placed the bottle of whiskey back under the bar. “And if you think you can charm yourself into getting a free drink, think again. That’s two galleon” she swiftly continued, trying to ignore whatever new feeling had shown up.

“who said i’m lying?”

🌲            “I did. That’s why I asked” she replied bluntly, starting to wonder if she hadn’t been direct enough with him. “Because that’s usually what people say when they’re hiding something”

“I’m sure that I can. I haven’t tried in the last few hours though” he admitted, shrugging. “why?”

🌲     Daphne shrugged. “Just making sure that if I wanted to steal some of your shit, I’d have a pretty decent chance of getting out of here” she joked. “What the hell happened anyway, you look like shit” he continued, dropping down into a chair close by.

“I wouldn’t mind a drink.” Laure said after a moment. That had been quite a nice move, and he wondered if this blonde could teach him to do that. He’d very much like that. This girl would’ve done much better than he did in Fight Night. “Zat was a good move, ‘ow do you do zat?”

   “That I can do. Although You’re going to have to pay up first. I’d hate to have to break your fingers” Daphne replied, moving down the bar towards Laure. “What, that?.... oh that was nothing” she continued, taking a moment to look the other over, they looked like the kind of person who’d benefit from knowing how to do what she had just done. “Here, hold out your hand, I’ll show you” Daphne said as she stood across from Laure and held out her hand. “I promise I won’t break anything”

there was no way the girl had walked into a door, but harriet didn’t know her well enough to question it. “right.” was all she said as she opened the door wider and stepped aside so daphne could enter. she held out a hand in the direction one of her more well equipped examination rooms that was prepped for minor surgeries. “of course, come in. here,” she reached into a nearby drawer and pulled out a thick, sterilized piece of cloth. “press this against it. right this way. how long has it been since you were hurt?”

   Daphne took a moment to question if it was a smart move to follow the other inside. She had made one mistake already today, she didn’t want to make another. However, it wasn’t like she had much of a choice. “Not long. Ten, fifteen minutes maybe?” Daphne replied as she pressed the piece of cloth tight against the wound and followed Harriet to the examination room. “Like I said. I tried to patch it up myself, but the stitches didn’t hold... I’ve never been great at that kind of stuff”

   “why  are  you  lying  to  me ?”

    “can  you  walk ?”

Antonin glanced up at the commotion, eyed the bartender dragging an idiot across the bar with a wry smile, and went back to nursing his drink while he scanned the pages of the book he had brought with him. He wasn’t usually a reader; but his accounts were done, and Eclipse felt too weird without Malcolm there, for him to be sitting in his office. “Neither” he replied, looking up as he was addressed. It wasn’t as though it had been anything he hadn’t seen before, and he still had half of his glass of whiskey left. “I was hoping Alex might be around” he added, turning the page in his book before pressing it down onto the bar in front of him. He picked up his glass again. “Is the breaking of fingers your usual threat, or were you feeling unimaginative today?”

   Daphne took a quick glance around the pub at the mention of Alex. She had seen him earlier that night briefly, however she had been so busy serving drinks and eavesdropping on conversations that she had quickly lost track of where he had gone. “He was here earlier, can’t say I know where he went” She replied with a slight shrug as she turned back to face Antonin. “It’s been a long day, I didn’t really feel like jumping over the bar to put him in st mungo’s. The threat of breaking his fingers was a good compromise. Even if it was unimaginative” Daphne said, her eyes dropping from the others face and down to the open book on the bar. “A book in a place like this? almost looks like you’re asking for someone to break your fingers” Daphne joked as she started to clean glasses off the bar in front of her.

The entire situation was hilarious, though Henrick knew better than to laugh about it while it was happening in front of him. The look on that idiot wizard’s face… Priceless. Shame it was resolved so quickly, though. No one here has the balls that people did back home. Delyan would never have stood for that. Not that that means much, given that Deylan was dead and two thousand kilometers away. When the bartender turned her attentions to Henrick, he simply smiled and took another drink, breaking eye contact almost immediately. “Enjoying the show, obviously. Shame you didn’t break a finger or two as a warning.”

    “He’s probably still outside if you’re so inclined on breaking one of his fingers. If you run, you might be able to catch up to him” she said, scooping the money off the bar and shoving it into the register, all the while studying the others face. Daphne hadn’t seen them around the Wyvern before... although to be fair, she had only been in England for a month, so she wasn’t exactly an expert when it came to knowing who was and wasn’t a regular. “I don’t enjoy breaking peoples fingers who didn’t deserve it. He payed, therefore, both him and his fingers get to walk away. The nights still young though, who knows... maybe if you stay long enough you’ll get the privilege of watching someone else test their luck” she said with a smile, making her way slowly closer to Henrick. “You new around here? I haven’t seen you in here before”

“show, mostly.” bonnie answered honestly, hands on either side of her glass, cradling her nearly-finished drink. her staff - her own staff, the betraying bastards - had forced her out of the shop tonight, telling her that she needed a little thing called personal time. whatever the hell that was. “i wish i could do that. granted, honeydukes sees a much tamer crowd, but if someone’s running out the door without paying i’m just putting up a no-entry charm with their name on it. i quite like your strategy.”

   “Well I’m glad I could give you some entertainment to go along with your drink” Daphne replied, giving the other a quick look over, making sure she wasn’t also about to try and leave without paying. Thankfully, unlike the wizard before, she didn’t look dumb enough to try. “A no-entry charm is a good choice, the problem is that it stops them from coming back. Broken fingers on the other hand are just a reminder of what happens if you try and leave without paying, without loosing business.” Daphne continued, spotting the others almost empty drink. “You need another drink? Also, what kind of name for a pub is Honeydukes, sound ridiculous, you should change it”

as the room fell silent enough to hear a pin drop against the old pub floor, emma howled with laughter. what? it was funny. that guy looked fucking surprised. daphne was quick. emma hopped up backwards onto the bar and spun around to sit cross-legged on the flat top. “enjoying the show and also I want a blackberry wine please and thank you.” they pointed at the guy again. “he didn’t tip, by the way.”

   Daphne gave Emma a smile as she took the money the wizard had reluctantly left on the bar and put it in her back pocket, before grabbing a glass and bottle of blackberry wine and making her way down the bar towards her new found friend. “Well I hope you were entertained.” Daphne replied, placing down the glass on the bar and pouring Emma her drink. “Having the privilege of pulling him across the bar and threatening to break his fingers was more than enough of a tip for me. He’s been driving me up the wall all night, he’s lucky I let him leave without a scratch” Daphne continued, pulling herself up onto the bar across from Emma as she spoke.

   “You’re gonna tip me though, right? I’d hate too have too break your fingers” she joked.
