“everyone does want to snog me, i just avoid commenting on it because that would be uncouth for a man of my stature.” sirius flashed her a large grin, though it was dramatically overtaken by a grimace, “fourth? fourth? you need to relax, mate, i could take you to court for this. wizengamot’ll be all over your ass.” he shook his head, “nope, for that, you have to go first. i’d hate to make you look bad.”

“First of all, I think you’re full of shit, you definitely didn’t get three. Second of all, if I wanted to swap spit with you, I wouldn’t use the apple bobbing tub, I’d just shove my tongue in your mouth. Third of all, you’re still full of shit.”

“it’s not what it looks like.” strife said, cutting her eyes over sharply to the face of the man who had caught her jumping at the unexpected loud noise from spooking inside the old facade of a haunted house. “I’m not scared of a haunted house. I was born in a haunted house. wait-” her whole head quickly craned around. “did you know there was a guy with you face that just left here a minute ago too?”

“yeah, he’s the face-stealer, comes out every halloween, you’ll get used to it.” fabian threw out one of the dozens of explanations he and gideon had come up with, waving his hand as if it was the most casual thing. “no, nah, you definitely didn’t look scared, were you really born in a haunted house? like, fuckin’, real haunted, not just ghost haunted?”

molly held onto her brother’s wrist probably way too tightly as the anticipation of someone popping out to scare them while they were lost had her on edge. “no. we went left first, then right, then right again. remember? or did we go left last time?”

“no, when we came in we went left, right, left left- no, right left- ah, fuck.” fabian was so focused on trying to remember which way they’d gone that he hardly noticed the circulation absolutely leaving his hand, “there was that scarecrow! where’s the scarecrow? the one with the hook hand! it was back that way, just after the creepy fuckin’ twins with the bows, we turned right after the scarecrow so if we find him again we just gotta go left, yeah? easy!” he pulled a quick one eighty, pulling his sister along with him as he plundered confidently into what was clearly the wrong direction.

“forgive me. I was trying to imagine what costume you could possibly come up with which would be more frightening than what you already are.” narcissa appeared to be alone at the festival grounds. although this was the first time she had been seen publicly in quite some time, she looked as cold as ever. her skin even frosted from the enchantment of her costume, or so it would seem. “hm.”

“clever, cousin.” sirius quirked an eyebrow at the sudden appearance of narcissa; he’d heard through the grapevine that she hadn’t exactly been... present, lately. but carnivals did tend to bring people out of the woodwork, he supposed, so he wasn’t going to question it too much. “i’m a werewolf, of course. what are you, a snowman? i always thought they were more the top hat type, but hey, who am i to judge?”

sydney took in a few deep breaths, trying to regulate her body from the nightmare. she sat up slowly, leaning back against the headboard and giving ricky a light smile. “same as before.” most of her nightmares were all of the same thing, her father. the night she found everything out, pieced it all together. “they are getting more frequent, i’m sorry.” she wasn’t sure why they were becoming a more recurring theme. it used to be once a month, now it was at least twice a week. “sometimes, i fear they won’t stop unless i go and face him.”

“you’ve got to stop saying sorry over this stuff.” ricky reached over slowly to brush syd’s hair off of her forehead, “s’not your fault.” he wished he knew how to help her in any way other than telling her it was going to be alright, it wasn’t her fault, she’d be okay in a few minutes. but he didn’t know how. he felt like a bad boyfriend - wasn’t that the boyfriend’s job, to help? some help he was. “...what if you did?” the words blurted out of his mouth before he could stop himself. he squeezed his eyes shut as if the action would take back those words. “i didn’t mean it. you know i didn’t mean it.”

Shivaun couldn’t remember the last time he’d actually tasted something. It was a hard thing to test, really. Still, he entered the brightly-coloured candy shop with some form of blind hope settling in his heart. If there was any magical food that could cut through the curse, Honeydukes was bound to have it. He looked around at the shelves upon shelves of foreign items, the smell of sugar clawing its way up his nose and mildly stunning him. Where the hell was he even supposed to start?

it had been a particularly slow morning at the shop, and bonnie found herself reorganizing practically every shelf over and over again. none of them were quite right, but she couldn’t figure out how to fix it, either. she was sure she’d go mad if someone didn’t come in soon.

and then, there he was, her savior! “afternoon!” she greeted him, perhaps a bit too excitedly, so she cleared her throat and tried to take it down a notch, “are you looking for anything in particular?”

James had a bad habit of slouching that he definitely, 100% blamed Sirius for. Before he’d met Sirius, James had been a truly upstanding member of society. Now look at him! He sighed dramatically, making a big show of slinging his legs off the couch and sitting up once the other person had finished talking. “I’m sorry, I genuinely didn’t listen to a single word of that. Can you please repeat it?”

sirius couldn’t even remember what it was he had been saying - he was suddenly far more focused on the fact that he had been blatantly ignored. sure, he hadn’t said anything important, but what if it were important? then what! “oi, fuck you.” he did, however, take the opportunity to swoop in at a shocking speed and take the spot on the couch previously occupied by james’ feet. snooze and lose. “i’m not repeating anything. if you didn’t care you listen the first time, mr. potter, i won’t bother entertaining you with a second.” it was a practically perfect impersonation of any one of their old hogwarts professors, if he did say so himself.

“I thought you said you could play?” he asked, a smirk tugging at his lips as he potted yet another ball.

“no i didn’t.” sarang specifically recalled being asked if she knew how to play pool, which she did. she used to play quite well; yaegar had taught her when she was young so she could help him hustle. for some reason though, since the rosiers had taken her in, she wasn’t able to do it anymore. her hands shook whenever she picked up a pool cue, and she did not know why, and she didn’t like that she didn’t know why. “i used to, but now i can’t.” she shrugged, tapping on the tip of her cue, “i’m trying.”

“I don’t usually tend the bar. I’m so sorry” she smiled sheepishly, as she had let the pint of beer she had been pulling spill over her fingers. She grabbed a rag from underneath the bar and wiped her hand dry. “I can try again”.

“what are you doing back there then, hmm?” the briefest look of disgust flashed across rabastan’s face as he saw the beer spill on her hand - a rag wouldn’t fix that, she’d probably be sticky until she washed it, and who knew when that would be - but it was gone as quickly as it came, replaced by a kind smile. “you should be out... wherever it is you normally are. not trapped pouring beers for poor saps like me.”

moody took the croissant off of his plate and folded it in half. then promptly shoved the entire pastry into his mouth and began the slow process of chewing it up. “no.” he lifted his tea to his mouth and took a sip to help. “I don’t share food.”

“that’s- how the fuck does your mouth fit that much croissant?” sirius tilted his head and moved in closer, as if to get a better look at moody’s mouth and throat situation. “this place has massive croissants. what else can you fit in there?”

“I’m lucky I’ve got you.” Leon said honestly. He pressed his forehead against hers and closed his eyes, just for a moment. “It doesn’t feel like I’ve earned a breather, but if you say that I have then I believe you.” Max definitely had a clearer head than he did at the moment. “Did I tell you Hayden’s pregnant?”

“i’m always right, of course you have to be-” but the sudden news stopped her dead in her mid-teasing tracks, “what?!”  she pulled away, though her arms were still around leon because she hadn’t the brain capacity to let go while also processing the news. why was everyone pregnant? was there something going around? was she pregnant? “is this good news? are we happy about this?”

paloma was nervous, more so than she had ever been before. her eyes kept darting towards the door, waiting to see if bonnie would show. what had she been thinking? bonnie was probably just being nice when she came to the store and had no interest in her ex girlfriend. hearing the swinging of the door, her head shot up again, but it wasn’t bonnie and she realized she was acting a little crazy, so she took the shot she had ordered to try and calm herself. she willed herself not to look the next time she heard the door, attempting to hide her eagerness if it was the other woman walking in.

bonnie had laughed when she received the owl from paloma. it wasn’t a mocking laugh, not in the slightest, she just thought that an owl containing such a serious message along with it was so very paloma. and it was sweet, and it was to the point, and by all means it felt genuine. she so badly wanted it to be genuine, wanted paloma to mean it this time, mean that she wasn’t going to leave and end things so she could explore the big beautiful world. that’s why she found herself walking through the door to the three broomsticks, because she’d missed how sweet and genuine paloma could be. “lo?” bonnie had approached the table quietly, noting how paloma almost purposefully seemed to be avoiding looking toward the entryway and finding it adorable, “hi. have you ordered yet? sorry i’m a minute late, was hard to find coverage at the shop.”

He watched his brother for a moment, before sighing softly and berating himself for acting like an arsehole. “It’s obviously not pointless” he countered, taking the seat across from him. “Look, I’m sorry I snapped. It’s not you, it’s just been - one of those days. Whatever it is you need to tell me, you can just tell me, yeah?”

“’s’okay.” ethan half-grumbled, resorting to typical younger brother behavior as was so easy to do. he had mostly been hoping that logan would give up on the conversation, and he could just put it off for another day, a day far, far, far in the distance, because this was a fucking difficult conversation to have and he’d probably never actually be ready for it. “it’s not- it’s not something i can just tell you, it’s a- a whole thing, a whole fucked up thing, i don’t know how.”
