the ultimate irony of 2024 was that I diagnosed and hotpatched the tumblr text editor race condition but am unable to deploy the patch to my browser because the web exists to ensure human suffering

specifically there is some kind of separation between the DOM that violentmonkey or wtfever can access and the *real* DOM, and as a result code that works in the js console does nothing when it executes in addon context

apparently what broke this was not tumblr but either firefox or violentmonkey. the fix is to replace the grant of "none" with "unsafeWindow":
