There was a heaviness deep in his chest as Namwoo sat in front of a stylist with nimble hands, fixing makeup that was supposed to look natural but never would. All the words he had swallowed over the months, all the texts that went unsent and calls he never got around to making pressed down on him now that he was faced with the certainty of seeing her again, of having to interact with her again. Was this all that was left of the years of friendship that had bound them together? Clammy hands and a tight set of his jaw the director called ‘charismatic’ in passing like there was some kind of beauty to the reopening of wounds he graciously ignored as he got up to work instead? It was an odd feeling to be standing next to Soyee again, and that was only amplified by how much taller she was – of course he had been given insoles, but those could never keep up with actual heels on a girl who already had a height advantage. Despite the sharp sting of her words, or perhaps precisely because of it, a low chuckle slipped through Namwoo’s lips. “We look ridiculous,” he said and willed himself to pretend they were on speaking terms, to pretend there was no sadness in his voice that he was trying to mask with amusement, “I look like I’m scared of you.” (Wasn’t he, a little?)
In Soyee’s eyes, she wished that the two of them had never slept with one another in the first place. She wished that they had just kept their friendly bond going strong, without the introduction of sex and other inappropriate acts of pleasure. Now they were more like strangers than friends, the bond they had built broken because of feelings that had seeped into their arrangement. She wasn’t sure when the feelings and emotions had entered the equation, but as soon as she learned that they had, she put a stop to everything immediately, basically cutting off all contact with the younger idol. It wasn’t like she had wanted to, but it was for the best. Quitting cold turkey was the best way to kill feelings, wasn’t it? That was what she had experienced in the past. She would be lying if she said she didn’t miss Namwoo though. He could always make her smile, and he never failed to brighten her mood when they hung out with one another.. Obviously not anymore now. “Maybe you should be.” Her words were light and playful for the most part, although there was a barely noticeable, hard edge to her tone of voice.
