can we FINALLY talk about Moran’s reality check in Chapter 50? because i am losing my mind over his dynamic with Louis and Fred 😞
I’ve been re-reading the text and honestly? Moran is probably the most painfully realistic character in this entire manga.
We all know Louis and Fred love William to pieces. They want him to survive, to actually see the world he sacrificed his entire youth to build. It feels incredibly unfair to them that Liam has to shoulder the guilt of everything alone, acting like he’s the sole villain when they were all in it together. They want him to have a life after the storm.
But here is the psychological breakdown of William that we need to acknowledge:
William truly believes the rest of the family deserves to live in the new world because they share his ideals. But himself? He thinks he’s fundamentally unworthy. Why? Because he was the mastermind. He was the one writing the scripts, pulling the strings, either killing the nobles himself or hand-delivering the means of revenge to the victims. In his head, no matter who pulled the trigger, it’s his plan, so it’s his crime. He cannot, and will not, forgive himself. He feels like staying alive would literally contaminate the pure world he’s trying to create.
And this is where Moran’s absolute masterpiece of a character comes in.
Moran doesn't love Liam any less than Louis or Fred do. But while they are driven by pure, heartbreaking emotion, Moran forces himself to be the realist. To Moran, Liam’s orders are absolute. Period. Not because he’s a mindless soldier, but because he respects William’s autonomy and his ultimate sacrifice.
Moran knows that dying is the only way William will ever find peace or atone for his sins. Trying to stop William or screw up his final plan isn’t just risky—to Moran, it feels like an insult to Liam’s resolve and his choice.
Moran wants to carry that heavy-ass burden for Liam, he desperately does, but he knows he can't. So the next best thing? Letting Liam have his final wish if death is what finally clears his conscience.
The fact that he still let Louis and Fred try their way in the end anyway? Peak fiction. I am literally sick to my stomach thinking about how much pain they were all in.
okay but are we ever going to talk about how Haures and Fennesz are literally just Riddle and Trey in a different font???
hear me out because the dynamic is dynamic-ing and i can’t unsee it anymore.
1. Haures & Riddle: The "Someone Please Give Them A Valium" Duo
They both carry the entire world on their shoulders for absolutely no reason. It’s the strict rules, the intense seriousness, and that constant "high-strung" energy. Even if their reasons differ, they both desperately need a designated person to hold them by the shoulders, look them in the eyes, and say: "Bestie, please take a deep breath and relax, it is not that serious." They are always one minor inconvenience away.
2. Fennesz & Trey: The Certified Babysitters (with specs)
First of all... THE GLASSES. 🧎♀️ I’m sorry but the mega-brain, mature, bespectacled man who can neutralize a whole crisis with just a look? Absolute top-tier character design, we love to see it.
But fr, they both play the ultimate mediator/calmer role. They are the emotional anchors. When Riddle or Haures start spiraling, Trey and Fennesz are just there, being all mature and comforting, perfectly handling the situation like the absolute rocks they are.
The Dynamic
The way Trey deals with Riddle is so fundamentally similar to Fennesz and Haures. Of course, Trey has his own shady/specific moments (we know how he can be lol), but that core energy of "Hyper-independent, stressed-out leader" "Calm, enabling, comforting glasses guy who keeps him sane" is identical.
Either way, I am eating it up. I LOVE THEM BOTH <3
