Eliza sighs, placing the unfinished hat on a stand and leans her arms on the table. “Am I dreaming too big?” She softly asks, looking down at her hand; the ring shimmers in the evening sun. “What if they don’t share my dream of going off in the great wide… somewhere?” “You have beautiful dreams, Eliza. I believe you’ll go on an adventure someday; soulmate or not.” Sophie says softly, placing her finished hat on a stand and turning to her friend. “And when you do, I hope you will take me with you.”

Talk of soulmates was common amongst the young women of the town of Ingary- Eliza included. She used to dream of meeting her soulmate through letters she’d write. She had stopped writing them after she turned 13, tucking them away in a box to be kept safe under her bed.

Now, she just looked over the many trinkets she obtained over the years. Some were hers, most were theirs. Cute little children’s toys and knick knacks litter her desk, making her come to the conclusion her soulmate was a child at heart. One morning, though, she found something that made her pause.

Keigo is hiding something, she can tell by the way he is grinning at her with both hands behind his back like an innocent school boy waiting for the teacher to notice him. His honey gaze is sweet, yet holding a darker tint. She stares at him for a minute, before sighing and turning away from her messy desk.

“Alright, you got me, what do you have?” She asks, leaning back in her chair with her arms crossed.

He perks up with a happy chirp, eagerly walking closer with a pep in his step while pulling a little velvet bag from the pocket of his hoodie. He nudges her arm so that she stands up and plops into the rolling chair, pulling her back into his lap after. Resting his chin on her shoulder, he slowly pulls something out of the tiny bag.

He dangles it in front of her eyes, seeing that little intriguing glint appear. She takes it from him, rolling the velvety feeling toy between her fingers and tilts her head. Keigo continues to nuzzle the side of her head, small chirps ticking his lips as he waits for it to click. And sure enough, he can tell when it does.

It started small at first, and he didn’t mind it. His darling was behind him doing their own thing when he suddenly felt their hand curl around his hair and gently pull, running the long strands between their fingers. He hums, pleased at the feeling- until a sudden tug snaps him from his daze. He waits a moment, wondering if it was an accident.

It happens again. He whispers their name, waiting to see if they were just trying to get his attention. They had playfully tugged on his ponytail before, when he was babbling on about something. Another small tug. He sighs.

“Darling, if you would please not do that-”

Another tug, much sharper, and he sets down the pen in his hand. A sharp inhale through his nose and he can hear the slight agitation in his voice.

“I would like for you to stop it, it is quite distracting-”

Again. He feels a growl build in the back of his throat and barely holds it back. They were doing this on purpose, but what is their end goal here?

“I’m giving you one last warning to stop this bratty behavior-”

When they do one more harsh tug, he lets the growl erupt out of his chest and he whips around to snatch their wrist in his hand. His amber eyes glare, finding their own staring up at him in mock innocence and mirth.

Her eyes twitch as she keeps from them from rolling, face blank as she stares at the smug bastard in front of her. For the past… whatever time, he’s been standing in front of her and babbling about some kind of bullshit she totally wasn’t paying attention to. She just wanted to take the stuff she bought and go home, where her psycho waits.

While it would be so easy to just shut him down and walk out, everytime she tries to back out of the conversation he just keeps bringing up more questions and random shit. It’s when he tries to pull off what he thinks as a sly move that she finally was done with that and everything to do with this.

Out of the corner of her eye, she sees his hand move, realizing what he wanted to try and do when it slid closer to hers. In one swift move, she pulls her hand from the counter and shoves them into her shorts pockets, giving the guy a disgruntled look. Her shopping bag dangles from one wrist, crinkling as it taps against her thigh.

“Even though this was so ‘fun’, I got better things to do than this.” She says, turning on her heel to walk away- only to be stopped when she sees a familiar man waiting across the street.
