You canโt lose anything when you both are lost together.
What had he have to lose?
Percy did not hesitate to accept the godhood when Zeus, the King of the Olympians, offered it.
He was young, he intended to stay young,
Well, no. He didnโt have Annabeth,
She was immortal unless killed in battle, being a hunter and all
But she was also not allowed to indulge in romance, being a hunter and all
They werenโt together, either
Just friends who come across each other every once in a while
Just friends who somehow knew about his Achilles spot and defendid it with her life
Just friends who he used all his willpower to shout and protect
But they were once more than โjust friendsโ
At least, thatโs what he thought before she took on being a huntress
A young maiden, vowed to Artemis
And all the hopes of being with her
Died with his โstupid delusionsโ
What had he have to lose?
A God of Loyalty, Percy was
Along with many other things such as waves and storms
Hurricanes and floods, trust and vulnerability
Using his powers, he created a condition worse than a promise to the river Styx.
If you vowed your life to a certain goal, you practically weaved it into your fate
You must achieve this goal, whether or not it will break you
If you donโt, the consequences you deal with are evil
Evil not to the goal, but to you
And the light of day wont hit your eyes anymore
He had to make sure that people were taking things seriously
Promises and swears to Styx had been overused
Fear to this new God will bring power. Power that will soon cause mayhem
What had he have to lose?
Being a God to loyalty, he needed to decide
To chose someone that he would stay trusted to for all his godhood
Which, in laymanโs termsโforever, considering he was immortal
She was immortal, and so was he
She knew him best, and so did he
She was his best friend, and he was hers
She maybe used to like him, and he did like her
Heโd rather be tied down to someone he couldnโt have
Rather than have someone he didnโt want
โThese are decisions he will cease to stand by
Plus, he technically didnโt have to tell Annabeth
If she was smart, sheโd figure it out
Then call him stupid and never talk to him againโฆ
Well, it wasnโt much far to what was already happening
What had he have to lose?
He gave out so much advice to heroes struggling with trust
Yet he kept aching to see the person he adored the most
He decided to do something out of stupidity and to show up right by her
So he did, and she was mad
He wanted to help them, these five other demigods, to defeat Gaea
He decided that he would do this without his godly powers and stick to what he had as a demigod
Riptide, water manipulation, and the smug look on his face
They did well, Gaea was long gone
He had made some friends, given out some advice
Heโd visited Camp Half-Blood, honored Camp Jupiter
Heโd gained more respect, then rejected the awestruck faces
But the feeling of longing for more was still in him.
He wished that they were more than just โbattle partnersโ
He was for Annabeth, and Annabeth only
But he knew to himself that she was laced to maidenhood
What had he have to lose?
It has been years, he was tired of being a God
He wanted to wish he and Annabeth a happy relationship and live on together
But she was in another battle today, a battle he couldnโt fight
He would tell Annabeth today. He would tell her that the reason he hasnโt attempted to date anyone
Is because he vowed his life to her, and this vow lasted forever
She was all he could trust, all he could confide in
If he dared to entertain anyone else, the punishment would be vain, and he would crumble upon his words
This was the difference between a vow and a promise
If you break a promise, wrath will break upon you
It will kill you in its own way
Making sure you regret not fulfilling it
But if you break a vow, you will regret doing so,
Regret to the point that you force wrath upon yourself
You will lure pain into your soul, crushing you under your made pressure
He needed to tell Annabeth. He had to be honest with her.
What had he have to lose?
She was lying on the grass, blood pooling around her head
He held her wrist, sucking in a breath
He saw what she had doneโ
She broke her vow to maidenhood
She went barging to Olympus, looking for Percy with a new vow and new tears in her eyes: โPerseus, I will love you until I dieโ
Annabeth threw her bow to the grass, rebuking her past works
She fell head first into a lightning fixture
Shattering her brain that was so full and her heart that was so heavy
Percy told her what he had been meaning to, โI love you.โ
She managed a smile, โYour love was too sincere, I kept denying it.โ
Annabethโs vision got blurry from the blood in her eyes, โTil death do us part, Seaweed Brain.โ
โNot true,โ he chuckled softly. โNot even death could separate us.โ
What had he have to lose?
He realized this when she sighed
She seemed almost glad to die, as long as he was next to her
Thank the Godsโhimselfโthat he marched towards her then and there
Red blood soaking his body
He then washed her up using the water she had left, cleansing her
He knew she deserved a proper funeral
After her ashes were blessed to the oceans
He never left the water, he stayed there, as if he still felt her with him
Soon, he stopped churning the seas, bringing upon calmness. Peace.
Centuries passed and due to his quiet, and most of his friends being dead, he was forgotten, left to disappear into the depts
Annabeth, she broke her vow to maidenhood, and what killed her was the symbol of the vow itselfโthe bow
But she had also died trying to achieve a new vowโto love Percy until she dies
Percy, he stayed loyal to her all his life
His loyalty bit him back, killing him in the process
He was glad it was a slow death.
It gave him time to remember all the memories he had with her.
What had they have to lose?
They were both forgotten.
But they wonโt forget each other.
You canโt lose anything when you both are lost together.
