Takamatsu Tomori is one of the most enchanting protagonists ever because the show she's in fundamentally gets that being autistic automatically qualifies you to be a tragic hero. To wit:
- The passions and drives most central to yourself are either written off as odd quirks or glorified as adorable eccentricities until they actually make people mad, at which point they become cardinal sins that you have always already been committing.
- People give you advice and opinions couched in the most impenetrable metaphor and obscure paralanguage and expect you to magically parse them lest you misunderstand the prophecy and stumble into your doom.
- You are abandoned by so many people who first tell you to 'be yourself' and then walk off that you genuinely come to question your humanity and place within every conceivable system and relationship.
- You make a precious few allies despite the circumstances and are stricken by a profound terror and dread of having transgressed in some unknown and unforgivable way whenever they decide for some personal reason to shut you out or chuckle at your opinions or frown upon your behavior.
- You realize all the 'right' things way too late and are permanently left wondering what the hell you could've done different, a line of questioning that in the worst spirals leads you to the answer, "Uh, be a different kind of human being entirely?"
- You struggle to come up with the right thing to say 90% of the time and say it in ways that are interpreted in the worst possible manner the remaining 10%, a capacity for triggering obvious collapses in tottering structures that you nonetheless assume through sheer conditioned guilt to be entirely your fault.
- You have arrived in the face of everything at a way of doing things that gives you structure and routine, a deeply personal set of significances that the world decides one random day to scatter like leaves.
- You are crushed on both ends between the twin horrors of a world that you simply do not seem designed to fit in and a personal responsibility to ensuring you manage to survive in it anyway.
- At the end of all the heartbreaks and quarrels and abandonments and betrayals, you can only really find a modicum of peace and dignity by being unrestrictedly yourself, by admitting that the aforementioned cavalcade of reversals and collapses has scarred you for who-knows-how-long, and declaring in the face of it all that you want to live anyway, because it all MEANT something, goddammit.
Aye, Tomori lives in a story that understands the tragedy of all this, and does not deny or downplay the disaster of it all, but simply give her another day, the long tomorrows of a lost child's youth, and a night whose stars she can sing her tales into. And perhaps that is something after all- something she can touch and feel and caress and hold dear, an odd little thing that's shaped just right, and a moment of peace.
out of the three of them I think TP Link is the softest imo (a sweet country bumpkin, you know?? and he's the only one who pets animals) idk he's a sweetheart okay?? somewhere...midna is probably making fun of him for crying, but she's just hiding her own emotions :')
there was so much I wanted to do in this part, like Epona's Song (with the ocarina and the horse call/Ilia's necklace), and then I thought this moment was a good chance for Twilight to remember the Hero's Shade, but that meant Time needed to fight something and I chose to draw More Horses and I d i e d
