This leopard sculpture is obvara fired! This technique involves dipping a hot piece right out of the kiln into a yeast solution, creating unpredictable and unique patterns. This sculpture will be available this Friday, June 12th at 8pm Eastern time.

If I'm still up for it, I might repeat the whole thing with my classic red, yellow, blue primary dye set. For a truly massive set of heather swatches.

For anyone curious, I used brilliant yellow, deep magenta, and caribbean blue from Dharma dyes on their corriedale wool for my base colors.

Used leftover sock yarn from the scraps bucket. My mom could tell you what, but I'm not good at Name That Yarn.

Trying to learn how simplified my initial drawings need to be before they get turned into fpp patterns. I think this one was still too complex and curved to translate how I wanted it to.

I don’t think I have a lot of nostalgia for my own work, but I frequently experience a thing where I’ll be okay or even a little disappointed with something I made, and then later I will find it again and because enough time has passed that I no longer associate the design with me, I see it more objectively and it’s so much better than I had thought at the time. These are legitimately charming. And in this particular case, I’m pretty sure I was half thrilled and half dismayed because the biggest box wasn’t as stable or square as I wanted it to be.
