my youtube playlist of extra songs i think were perfect for the show but never used
published works are the tip of my Casdean iceberg but are as follows:
To be Human
Dean's never wished he weren't human. He's never thought they, or he, contained anything special either, but when he sees Cas he thinks he understands what enraptured the angel enough to sacrifice everything.
Cas' adjustment to humanity though Dean's eyes.
entrenched
The human nose can remember many different scents. In Dean's line of work most of them are unpleasant, but he finds comfort in Cas'.
Sins of the Father
God does not punish children for the sins of their father, but He cannot help if they sin as their father did before.
Dean tracks down Cas to bring him back to the bunker, blind to the difficulty of finding work as a fallen angel who had nothing.

currently thinking of castiel with longer hair, with or without beard but definitely with earring.
(pictured above are kris kristofferson and pierce brosnan, both of whom i believe dean would have had insane crushes on. misha is from ncis episode 04x03).

Castiel Novak's a renowned actor currently trending for the low-budget B-movie that gained him recognition. Not due to his performance, mind you, but the popularity of a younger adult creator using his fictional character's name. Against Castiel's better judgement (and that of his publicist) he replies to a post asking if said fictional character gets pegged with, "In this scenario are you referring to my role of Angel, or @/stevereedx? This would affect my answer."
In Dean's defense, he never thought he'd grow much of an audience. One of his favorite movies is a campy police pursuit film with a runaway bride and sly, cowboyish protagonist—think Smokey and the Bandit. It was actually a pretty big hit when it came out; he saw it in theaters in high school and subsequently many of his puberty-induced fantasies. So years later when he's designing his online persona, he thinks of Castiel's character Steve "Angel" Reed, one of his first big celebrity crushes. And Steve Reed sounds perfect for his country boy image, living in Middle of Nowhere (Lebanon), Kansas and having guys fuck him on the wraparound porch or in the back of their trucks.
Dean didn't think far enough ahead about copyright or the possibility of Castiel ever learning about him, and those are quickly becoming his biggest issues. The parent company for the movie isn't pleased to have his Wikifeet page pop up in a search before the character Steve Reed—which, fair, but Dean had no part in that—and Castiel's just tagged him in a Bluesky post. What the fuck is his life.
@whoipretended2b I hadn't developed much more of this idea, but ask and you shall always receive. Just Wednesday I was researching porn production and the experiences of actors.
I see Castiel here as someone who uses social media in small spurts. He isn't that interested in it and refuses to have a social media manager ghostwriting. When he is on, he posts whatever he wants. A praise to a local coffee shop he found that kept him fueled while filming a condensed indie project. Random questions better suited for an internet search that he instead asks his followers, like "My car shakes when I'm stopped. Video attached. How much of an issue is this?"
Castiel's co-star Meg, whom he dated after the film and is now amicable with, sent him the post. He reads it while out to dinner with his publicist Hannah and two of their friends. Castiel shows it to her for a laugh and she just shakes her head. A few minutes later he's typed out his response and turns his phone again, and it's a "Castiel no" "Castiel yes" exchange before he posts it.
It takes an hour for it to gain slow traction, but then it's exploding. Side-by-side photos of Castiel and Dean for comparison's sake (promo images and film stills of Cas in blue jeans and a red work shirt, sleeves rolled up on thick hairy forearms. Portraits of Dean, white shirt left open to show his soft abs and shaved belly). Arguments over which of the two would bottom with added photos of Castiel from his first role at 23, thinner and clean-shaven like Dean. Mostly sexual or suggestive comments, fan arguments, and lazily written online articles.
Dean started as a gay model at 22, having moved to California when his younger brother went to Stanford. He signed his first film contract with the same studio when he was 23, and began adult content creation at the same time. He'd thought it would be a side gig while he tended bar but it took up more time than he thought. He made enough money to pay rent and live off of, but it was far from cushy (especially not wanting to escort). He thus started filming more, earning $500-750 for each project. He spent his time on set, working out, seeing Sammy, and hanging out with studio guys, steadily building a devoted audience. By the time he was 27 he had enough revenue from content creation to let his studio contract lapse. He moved to a family property in Lebanon, Kansas because it was dirt cheap and started independently collaborating with other creators.
Dean invited 90's porn legend Roy Van Helsing (Benny) to his house for a three day hang and shoot. They've been friends for years but never filmed together. They're both posting a fair bit, and within their communities they're booming, but only really across gay porn. Then somehow a shitpost makes it back to Castiel, and Castiel fucking tags him in a reply.
The popularity explodes Dean's subscriptions and tips. Dean initially feeds the frenzy with some backlogged personal content he had on hand, then works on some more. The studios he filmed with were pushing his stuff too, and while he didn't earn a cent from them it drew more people to his site. By the third week he's getting a bit tired of it, all of the social media interaction and feeling pressure to be active. Until then the most he's made in a year was $14k, and this month he'd already gotten $7k. He decides to stop replying and queues posts for the upcoming week.
Throughout the little internet meltdown Castiel and Dean have been texting. It began with an apology from Castiel, a DM saying he thought it was an obvious joke and didn't intend for it to garner much attention. Castiel's never commented about a relationship in his career, making a point to be private about his life. The media frenzy after his and Meg's relationship leaked was horrible for him, as they were hounded and he felt personally betrayed and violated. They remained together for three years, but ultimately stress from the incessant stalking and harassment contributed to their breakup. Nearly a decade later, the mere acknowledgement of another guy was enough to start back up the old rumor mill.
Dean messaged back saying not to worry. And it's kind of nuts having one of his celebrity crushes in his DMs—albeit under kind of embarrassing circumstances, but he can't help himself. He sends another message quickly after, saying how much he liked the movie and Castiel's character. He figures that it's the only time he'll get the chance to really chat: that they'll both ignore the public attention, maybe Dean will post something like "yeah it was a funny reply but it was clearly a joke, thanks for liking my porn though", they'll move on. But Castiel replies and it doesn't just feel like he's humoring a pathetic fan (even if that's how Dean sees himself). Castiel says he hasn't seen the full movie before but it's flattering that it meant so much to Dean. They keep chatting about movies, because Dean loves them and Castiel's absurdly unaware.
The conversation doesn't die out the next day, another surprise to Dean. Castiel has a free evening so he decides to watch his old movie, messaging Dean during parts of it. Dean excitedly adds his commentary and Castiel shares tidbits from filming.
Dean and Castiel become friends while Dean soft retires from entertainment. Dean tries to switch to a cooking account, sharing his favorite tricks and mainly focusing on making cheap, filling meals. Job options are just about limited to remote work in Lebanon and he hopes his pivot is livable. He doesn't quite have to start his fanbase from scratch; a very small number of his audience follows, but the lingering social media attention helps garner outside viewers. Reading some of the grateful comments means a lot. Dean gets to be a little more himself, an unexpectedly positive thing. He's used to his public image being a character far removed from who he is. Now he just narrates his cooking and wears whatever he wants. Still keeps busy at the gym but feels like he's working out for his health and enjoyment rather than to maintain an exceedingly difficult litheness at 27. He doesn't have to spend half an hour shaving his face, chest, balls, and ass. It's still work, but it's lighter.
Maybe on a trip back to Cali to visit Sam, Castiel asks to meet up. Maybe next time it's Castiel coming to Dean's property in Lebanon. Maybe they film a collaboration cooking episode Dean doesn't end up posting, because Castiel's "innocent" crowding of Dean's space makes the "kiss the cook" print on Castiel's apron come true.
If I said that I've been planning an Actors AU where Dean is a really successful actor, but recently he's been cast as the lead in a load of action movies and his agent (Gabriel) doesn't want him to get typecast, so he agrees for Dean to star in something totally different... A Western Romance movie that's due to release for next year's Valentines Day.
The studio behind it thinks that it's going to be a big hit - the romance genre is making a lot of money right now, and a Western Romance released on Valentines Day starring Dean Winchester as one of the romantic leads is almost guaranteed to get them huge box office success. But! They're having trouble casting the right person to star alongside him as the other romantic lead.
The studio hasn't really got anyone specifically in mind for the part, so they've called in a bunch of actors who got through auditions and callbacks to have a chemistry read with Dean......
There's a lot of money riding on this, and a lot of a romance movie's success is largely due to the chemistry between the leads, so they're very invested in who to cast for this other role. Which is why the studio execs, the director, head writer, and casting director are all going to be sitting in the room to watch the chemistry reads.
No pressure.
Dean thinks being in a romance movie is kinda lame, but he's a professional and he will do. his. job.
Anyway, he reads his lines with a few different actors - Cassie, Lisa, Pamela, Tessa... and he thinks he's had chemistry with them all. (He thinks he has chemistry with everyone though.)
The last actor to be called in is announced as 'Castiel' and Dean is just thinking, 'huh weird name', when he's stunned speechless as a guy walks in.
Uh. No. Absolutely not. He's not starring in a romance movie with a guy!
But the room is full of top studio execs (including Crowley) and the very famous director of the movie (Balthazar) and he really can't make a fuss if he wants to keep working in the industry. It's not that he's homophobic or anything, he just doesn't personally, as a straight man (yeah okay) want to be act as a gay character. But Dean does his job and he grits his teeth and reads his lines.
He thinks it goes really really badly.
This Castiel dude is so weird - he keeps holding really intense eye contact, and then Dean gets kind of twitchy about it, so he keeps slipping out of the eye contact and looking down at his nose (not his lips. not his lips). And like, who does this guy thinks he is - he's performing the stage directions during a chemistry read, who does he think he's impressing?? So Dean matches his energy and acts right back.
By the end of the scene their characters are supposed to be leaning in for a light kiss, but somehow that's changed into something way more dramatic - Castiel is holding onto his shoulder with one hand, the other has tipped his chin up. One of Dean's hands has found its way into his hair somehow (when did that happen) and the other is curled around his waist.
The script ends there so Castiel steps back and thanks the room for their time.
Dean is left reeling, breathing heavily, and feels kinda like he's been left hanging.
Gabriel gives him double thumbs up from across the room while the execs all clap, and Castiel excuses himself from the room as they talk excitedly amongst themselves.
Who does that guy think he is?????
Dean is convinced after all that 'over-acting' there's no way that Castiel will get the role. They had no chemistry at all.
Guess who's starring in the Western Romance with Dean??
ofc the internet is buzzing with this new gay cowboy romance movie and they all think there's a secret thing going on between the two lead actors. Which there isn't!! ...... (Until there is)
Cas deliberately pushes Dean's buttons while they're in scenes together, because he knows how much Dean didn't want him to get the role in the first place (also why he played up at the chemistry read) so they're both as bad as each other honestly.
So now Dean finds Castiel difficult to work with and complains about him all the time to Gabriel (also Cas's cousin - he's the one that got him into the casting call in the first place by pulling some strings).
Much to Dean's dismay they have to work with an intimacy coordinator (Charlie) during their intimate scenes, and he seems to be the only one bothered by all of this!! But he can't say anything to anyone but Gabe because he doesn't want it to get around that Dean Winchester has a problem playing a gay character (because he doesn't okay! It's just that this Castiel guy is getting under his skin!!!) Dean is practically hissing he's so mad about this whole situation (he's lying to himself).
HOWEVER
as time goes on, and they work so closely together, Dean comes to some pretty life altering revelations about himself and his sexuality and just how fond of his costar he is.
they spend a lot of time with each other (especially during the press tour - Dean loves it, Cas hates it), they come to respect each other, their acting of having feelings for each other becomes real, they practice lines in each other's trailers, the movie is a big big success! The enemies become lovers !!!!
Dean posts a free pickup for his recently-deceased dog's toys in a local Facebook group, and Cas answers the ad. Dean's kept the collar and leash for himself, but needed to pass on the other items: cleaned bowls, kongs, stuffed animals, and a huge barely-used bed.
Cas meets him in his driveway and they end up chatting for half an hour in a drawn-out southern goodbye. Dean smiles and watches him leave, and thinks that's that.
Later that night Cas sends him a photo of his dog laying in the bed Dean gave him, on the floor right beside Cas' nightstand. It makes Dean smile as he stares at it, and he replies thankfully. Cas sends a few more updates, and their exchanges quickly move into random bits of their day and last half of the night.
After a few conversations throughout the week Cas invites him over to meet his dog, and Dean doesn't know if he's more affectionate for the pup or Cas but he's just grateful that the stuff went to the right kind of dude.
A year later Dean's back on Facebook giving away furniture, because he's preparing to move in with Cas.

What the fuck is his life.
When Harry Met Sally-esque, through mutual friends Dean and Castiel cross paths over the years. A poor first meeting results in continued disagreements about what relationships mean, with a young Dean brushing off attachment and offending romantic Castiel.
Dean's near-engagement with Lisa and loss of the chance to raise her son Ben soften him, and he aches for a partner he's sure he'll never have. Castiel's taken in a child from each of his estranged brothers' failed relationships, seeing firsthand the hurt that "love" can bring. Jimmy died and Amelia lost herself afterwards, abandoning Claire to her grandparents until their passing. He protects Kelly from an abusive Luke, then their son Jack when Kelly dies during childbirth. Castiel thinks his younger self was foolish and naĂŻve, hardened by familial strife.
Dean and Cas' lives distantly orbit one another, working in the same city with residual common friends. Their friendship only starts a decade later when, of all things, Dean dogsits for Castiel's neighbor. Dean's between apartment leases and his friends Charlie and Stevie are traveling for the summer, so it's a win-win scenario.
Dean helps Claire replace the cracked taillight of her truck before Castiel finds out. They're caught, but Castiel is surprised by Dean's kindness. Thus the awkward favors begin as Castiel and Dean passive aggressively try to make things even. Castiel leaves a box of antihistamine in the mailbox after noticing Dean's allergies. Dean ding-dong-ditches a steaming casserole on the porch. Castiel knocks on his front door to hand-deliver veggies from his backyard garden. And suddenly Castiel is Cas.
After the summer Cas helps Dean move into his new apartment and they stay in contact. There's no one grand gesture that shows Dean's changed: it's evident day-to-day. Through Dean's embarrassed admission that he likes the show Dr. Sexy, and his excitement when Cas asks to watch with him. In how Dean's self-consciousness no longer manifests itself in vocally loving beer and women, but by quietly putting everyone before himself and dismissing any thanks, as if he needs to earn his friends' care.
Before they get together, Dean's already authorized for pickup at Jack's school. He goes to open house and meets his teachers. He browses used car sites for a second vehicle, in case Cas needs him more often, or Jack starts a sport. Something safer, with washable seats and space for a bike rack. He encourages Claire to get her GED by studying with her. Friday nights are grill nights at Cas' place, and Dean cooks for everyone. After a month the late-night drive home turns into borrowing Jack's lower bunk bed.
He and Cas both know they'll fit together as a couple because their routines are already intertwined, it's just about taking the first leap.
(Charlie insists on being the best woman at their wedding).
info on u/revmychevy wip for @whoipretended2b as my inbox wouldnt work
my Destiel wip "u/revmychevy" is a Reddit fic where a newly-single Dean explores porn subreddits. what started as a lurker account under the username revmychevy turns into an important place go express himself. the body positivity of r/normalnudes, the literal cheekiness of r/MaleAssesForTheLasses, the de-pornified r/averagesofties and r/AverageDickPics.
as he becomes comfortable he starts saving posts and commenting small compliments. a week of debating and he's made his first post to r/normalnudes and one of the sub's moderators, u/knockoffspock, comments something fairly average. but "Very pretty freckles!" still sends a spark of warmth through him, and he clicks on the user's page.
u/knockoffspock is a divorced dad of two teens, and he has a lot of Reddit karma. other subs he's active in are new to dean like r/Hyperspermia, r/CockOutline, r/CumFromAnal.
dean spends a while exploring spock's posts as well as the communities he's in. over the course of months dean gets to enjoy his attraction to men with the anonymity of the internet and thirsty encouragement (mostly). and chevy and spock get to know each other through bantering comments. it's a small thing that dean covets in his life.
then spock posts for the first time in r/KansasR4R, a place for horny people to find someone to fuck. and dean agonizes for three hours before sending a message.

RULES: make a new post with the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous and tag as many people as you have WIPs. People send an ask with the title that most intrigues them, then you post a snippet or tell them something about it.
WHY IS THIS FUN? Because it helps me find out what people might be excited to read and gets ME excited to write it!!!
hello, thank you for the tag @whoipretended2b
i don't have many connections here so i open up participation to anyone who sees and is interested :)
some of these titles are final, some are just so i remember which is which
The Roadhouse's Trivia Tuesdays have been a huge hit, and they're the highlight of Dean's week. He's the host and it's a fun environment. Tips are good and regular teams have started to form.
A newcomer team causes some tension when they don't miss a single question. It's pretty disheartening that someone would cheat for one free meal voucher, but none of the staff had watched closely enough to see any phones out. Dean hands him the voucher with a tight congratulations.
Next week when they see the same guy who claimed the prize, Dean and Jo both keep an eye on him. He's at the bar alone this time, easier to observe and not seem suspicious.
By the fourth question there starts to be an emerging pattern. The guy is legit, for one. He watches Dean attentively as he reads the question then his eyes dart to his sheet as he quickly jots his answer. Then he turns his attention back to Dean. After a handful of accidental eye contact Dean forces himself to look at anyone else, not wanting him to feel scrutinized. But Dean finds himself rooting for the guy throughout the game.
When he turns in his paper before the final round they tally up the points, and Castiel, as his sheet says, got all but one. The question he missed was one of the deliberately easier ones, what was the first song played on MTV, and Dean smirks to himself.
Dean pulls Castiel aside after giving him the first place voucher and asks how he knows so much. Castiel gives a modest kind of shrug and says he likes learning. He's definitely a bit of a weird dude but fuck is he interesting. Dean's not clocked in, he only comes in Tuesdays to host trivia and provide help if needed, and they end up talking for another half hour before Castiel's friend comes.
Weeks repeat, and Castiel quickly becomes Cas. Dean really likes him and his grandpa sense of humor. Dean doesn't write or screen any of the questions but he flips through them before the game and tries to guess which Cas will and won't answer correctly.
Cas misses a week and Dean's disappointed. He doesn't have a way to contact him (and, he realizes, actually knows pretty little about him. No last name, no job, not where he's from or how long he's been in Nebraska). None of the people Cas has been with come in either, so Dean just resigns himself to wondering all week.
Monday night he's watching TV and actually drops his remote when he sees Cas. On Jeopardy!. They're hosting an Ultimate Tournament of Champions with notable players throughout the game's history. Apparently Cas had won 13 games back when he was a graduate student, and the comparison to his older footage was startling. His hair had been a light brown and he had the type of slender nerdy build one would expect from a Quiz Bowl kid. It didn't connect to Dean's image of Cas, now in his late thirties with a perpetual shadow of stubble, messy black sex hair, and bulk of muscle.
Dean's transfixed through the game, watching Cas play. He has the same even expression Dean was familiar with. He didn't fidget or move like the other contestants and kept his buzzer at his waist. He bet conservatively even when he had a safe lead. His eyes were shining with the studio lights and blue everywhere. Dean isn't sure when Cas comes back but he's looking forward to it.
Cas ends up in the finals and finishes second, his weakness in tv, movies, and music holding him back.
For the first time Cas shows up an hour early in Tuesday, explaining he isn't sure if he wants to stay due to recent publicity. He explains that he was on Jeopardy! and Dean snorts, telling him he knew.
Dean finally gets Cas' number, chuckling to himself when Cas pulls out a flip phone.
The Roadhouse debates offering a second first prize, as Cas unfailingly finishes top every game, but Cas decides to stop submitting his answers. He plays every week, but he doesn't need the free food anymore, given that he's now dating one of its managers.
