BOUNDLESS GREED.

       SOMETHING THAT I KNOW - AND SAL ALSO KNOWS AS AN OLD MAN, is that if Delores wasn’t in his life: he would end up dying early. That’s just the way it is. He was wild as fuck in his twenties - a troublemaker, a man who stayed out all night hanging out or committing crimes, a man who easily made enemies. He was very involved with the streets, and he never knew when to stop acting a fool. Being with Delores (and having Cassandra especially) caused him to step back from being utterly involved with his old debauchery. Because she would force him, if not BEG HIM: ‘Don’t go out tonight.’         Let’s say he makes it out of his twenties, and he’s in his forties. Sal can still be reckless and also impulsive. He has a lot of anger in him when offended. Something I haven’t talked about on this blog really is how Delores eventually made him seek therapy when they were going through all of these changes in their relationship at this period.        It’s why Sal’s more mellow as an old man, and more self-aware as well. He’d just be stuck in his destructive ways, nothing holding him down, and he ends up fucking with a more dangerous guy: and he dies in a bar. On a street. Wherever it was, it was public.       SAL IS A DEMOCRAT, I had to come to terms with this when @pcplarstreet​ told me their Benny was a Republican for a while? And I just knew Sal had to beat the Republican out of Benny. No matter how old Sal was at the time, it just had to be done. He’s not an idealist when it comes to politics, as he believes a lot of them are as corrupt and self-centered as him. They’re just prettier to have in public, that’s all.       Sal and Delores know some politicians on a personal level and Sal has -- pulled some strings -- done a few things... to put certain people in power, but you didn’t hear that from me.

      WHEN SAL AND DELORES DECIDED TO WORK ON THEIR FAMILY, Sal wanted a son so badly. Someone he could raise to be just like him (except, in a more loving and protected environment), someone he could bond with, a little companion he could drive around with.      He never REALIZED that there would be unspoken implications in having a black son, though. Or, how many of his friends thought it was one thing for Sal to proudly display his daughters, because they’re ‘cute little mixed girls.’ But his sons, while light skinned, are still just considered black boys.      Honestly, Sal was ignorant to the things Louis and Giovanni would be going through for years because people respected Sal. So therefore friends and associates would respect little Louis. But at Louis’ private school, he encountered racism from other classmates. Got called names, slurs, and Sal didn’t know how to handle it when Delores told him about the situation. Naturally, his impulse would be to beat someone badly. But - Sal can’t fight a kid. Sal also can’t fight the parent, who is a lawyer or dentist or something else reputable.      He was living in the suburbs now so, he can’t act like he’s in the heart of the city anymore. His neighbors would slap a lawsuit on him or something like that for assault.       Shortly afterwards, Sal had to come to terms with that fact Louis would never be seen as partially Italian. Or even worthy to be in his organization. But he still did the best he could to install a sense of pride in his sons, as well as a tough attitude in order to fight his own battles and he tried to figure out ways he could have his sons continue his legacy.

     “I want ya to know that I ain’t never hit Cass before ‘till last night. Ever. I didn’t tell you this-” out of shame and embarrassment, “but, ever since I got released, Cass won’t even - respect me. Hell, when Dolly would take the kids upstate to see me, Cass hardly wanted to hug me. There’s a...” disconnect? “I’unno...she don’t respect me but she respects the lil’ punks and wannabes in our neighborhood!! I don’t get it, Ciro.” 

       “Look T.” Sal begins, a cigarette placed between his lips. “I know ya like me. I know ya wanna hang out with me. And to a degree, I know ya wanna even be me.” Yes, he brought this up once more. “Maybe if you had more, swagger. More personality. I would let ya into my life. But you’re the blandest white guy around, it’s just who you are. And I don’t wanna see no tears about it.” 

So when I make playlists for my OCs, I aim for two things. 1.) This is a song that they would listen to. 2.) This is a song that represents them in some way. Lyrically or instrumentally. When it comes to Millennial Delores’ playlist on Spotify, I feel like it's really good and matches up (tone/sound wise) with Main Verse!Delores’ playlist. Even though I focus on newer songs with Didi, they still evoke a similar feeling. But Sal’s millennial counterpart is not doing...as good. Because when it comes to the stuff that’s on Main Verse!Sal’s playlist, I’ve placed really strong, really 70s instrumentals like this on there and...idk, modern songs just can’t compare. It makes his younger, modern counterpart look whack as a result. 😂
