"I give her up, and you promise you'll leave me and Bolin alone?" Mako asked again.
The light flashed green off the goggles worn by his contact. The woman chuckled behind her mask. "We won't kill you. But Amon can't very well make deals with bender scum like you."
"What end?"
Mako shrugged. "Getting off the streets. Making something of ourselves."
"You'll be able to make something of yourselves in the new world Amon will create. Just without bending."
Mako picked up the pen and started drawing a map to the safehouse where Beifong had stashed Korra after Air Temple Island came under attack.
He was just doing what he had to do to survive, and protect his little brother.
{OOC: Okay, this one doesn't have Mako killing her himself, but... he's setting the stage for her to likely die in an ambush...}

There was shouting everywhere, people rushing to get out. He heard Bolin somewhere, yelling, "Mako, no!" and then there was someone on his back, driving him to the ground. They were trying to grab for his wrists, maybe put him in a hold. Mako screamed with fury.
And everything was fire. He was fire, he was white-hot flame, not just his hands and feet but his whole self. It seemed to go on for ages, but it couldn't have been more than a dozen seconds. Mako slumped to the ground, utterly drained.
Korra was there when he woke up. But... he didn't recognize where he woke up.
"How could you do it?" she demanded. There were tears in her eyes.
Confused, Mako tried to stammer out an apology. He shouldn't have lost control, he--
Korra grabbed him by his shirt and hauled him to his feet. More than... his toes barely touched the ground. She hissed, "You don't know what you've even done, do you?"
"N-no..?" Mako squeaked. The next moment, she was dragging him out of the room. Before he could do much more than register that they were in a hospital, Korra was shoving him toward a door marked 'Stairs'.
"Go. All the way down." Korra snarled. She marched him down, right on his heels the entire time. When they got to the basement, she grabbed him by the collar and dragged him down the hall.
The last door was marked 'Morgue'. "No..." Mako whispered. Why else would Korra be so angry?
"You're going to see. You're going to see what you did."
"No, Korra, d--"
"SHUT UP!" Korra yelled. Her other hand came up and gripped his shoulder so tight Mako could swear he felt it bruising. She forced him through the door, into the cold room of bare stone and sheet-covered gurneys.
She dropped him and went right for one of the nearest gurneys. Mako crumpled to the floor and covered his face with his hands, shutting his eyes tightly behind them. "Korra, please..."
There was the sound of a sheet being pulled back, rough and fast. "Look at him!" Korra demanded. Then her hands were on him again, forcing his own hands down. "Open your eyes and look at him or I swear I'll rip them out of the sockets. Look at what you did to Bolin!"
{OOC: I really don’t know much about Tsuri so… this is based entirely on your profile blurb. And I have no idea where this plot twist came from. Enjoy?}
Mako was a liar. Always had been. He could spin a story to cast himself the hero, he could tell people exactly what they wanted to hear — or, more accurately, needed to hear in order to leave him and his brother alone.
Korra had asked him if he was some kind of criminal, and just from her tone he knew it wasn’t a good idea to tell the truth. He’d taken on an offended tone of his own and told her she didn’t know what she was talking about; he’d fed her a line about “just running numbers and stuff” for the Triple Threats.

An assassination assignment from the Triple Threat Triads.
Mako spread the tools and the various poisons out on the table, as he'd been taught, in a configuration that made sense to him... though someone untrained wouldn't understand it. He took off his fingerless gloves and slipped on a longer pair that afforded him complete coverage of his hands. Then he got his baking supplies out.
Mako was going to make a very special batch of sweets for Miss Matsuri Hakari...
Mako pokes the mun with a stick. "Excuse her, she's just amused because that 'Kill me' meme got three replies in about as many minutes. That's a record for us."

Asami had been reapplying lipstick and primping herself in front of a mirror when she heard the knock on her door. Giving herself a quick once-over, she called up the main staircase to tell her father that she was leaving.Â
She opened the front door to find Mako, looking as handsome as ever in his new clothing, greeting her with what looked to her like a cool smile. Asami returned the smile as she stepped outside, letting the door gently close behind her. “Good evening, Mako,” she said, her voice light with the excitement of their first evening alone together.Â
"Ah," Mako swore he felt his heart flutter when he got his first look at Asami in her evening wear. "Asami. Good evening."
He offered her his elbow. "I don't know how much dancing you've done, but there's a really fun club not far from here. It's such a nice night, I thought we could take a walk, if you like?"
She sighs, "I wish I could go to the Triads but even they've turned against me at this point. And after all the work I've done for them!" She yells, waving her arms and a manhole cover bursts up as water rises. "Whoops..." She mutters as she calms herself.
She takes a few calming breaths, "I'm all out of options... I should have ended Amon when I had the opportunity to... But noo, I have to let the Avatar do it or else the balance of the world would still be off..." She huffs a little, crossing her arms.Â
Mako made a startled sound as the water reacted to her anger, falling to a defensive stance for a moment before he realized it was an accident. It was on the tip of his tongue to reassure her that no harm had been done, but then she kept talking...
"Wait... so it's true?" Mako furrowed his brow. "You had a chance to stop Amon and you didn't? You're leaving him for Korra to deal with?"
"Nah... Was just scoping out places to live... So far, no go." She sighs, "And as for escorting, I really don't need help with that." She shrugs, "I can handle myself."
She was pretty closed off -- he could tell from her tone -- but Mako could understand being guarded in this kind of situation. He shrugged. "I didn't mean to imply anything. But it's harder to jump two people than one alone, is all."
He knew how hard it was to find a place when you didn't have any money or people didn't want to allow you inside. He scratched the back of his neck and leaned just slightly closer so he could speak in a softer tone,
"If you just want a place to sleep, the gazebos on the south end of the park are pretty good for shelter. Even though it'll be cold... And right now Warehouse Five on the Zhen dock is good for a night if you've got some cash to pay for space. I think the Agni Kais are the ones to talk to."
These aren't well-known facts about the city, but the homeless and the gangs have their own systems of survival. It had taken him a while to learn them, as a child. He'd kept up with it out of both habit and pessimism.
She shakes her head to make sure that all the trash is out, "Oh, yeah, I'm great. Just since Amon made that announcement that I let him go, the entire city is pissed off to no end at me... Plus I need to be careful that no equalists are around... So yes, I'm fine."
Mako frowned deeply. "But... that makes no sense." How could anyone 'let' Amon go? The man was dangerous all on his own, and he was always surrounded by six other chi-blockers. There was no way any fight or confrontation with him could be fair.
He walked closer to the woman. "Well, I'm not going to do anything to you. Is there someplace safe you can go? I'll escort you there if you like..?"

She sighs a little as she looks up at the sky from the dumpster she was tossed into… Why? Because apparently the world is out to get her and she has zero allies. She groans as she picks herself up and dusts the garbage off of her, “Hmph… And I thought the Avatar had it rough…”
Mako peeked around the corner into the back-street where he'd heard a commotion. There was something -- no, someone -- climbing out of a dumpster some distance from him. He frowned a bit, recalling a similar treatment at the hands of certain bullies in his past.
“No, no way…no this can’t have happened!” Hasook was desperately looking around for some way out, but he couldn’t see one. He turned to face Mako “YOU” he yelled, square in the firebenders face, “THIS WAS YOUR FAULT” Mako only laughed back. Through the swollen, bruised face - Mako was laughing at him. Hasook had fallen for his own damn trick.
The cops threw their fists forward and before Hasook knew it he was caught around the forearms. The cables were tight and dug deep into his arms: there was no chance of getting out of this. Hasook hung his head as people around them looked on in amazement, he didn’t dare look back at Mako to see how they were dealing with him. Mako had won, there was no point trying to fight it. Once again Hasook had let his temper get the better of him-
“My Dad’s gonna kill me…” he muttered under his breath as he was tugged away by one of the metalbenders.
Ow ow ow. Laughing was painful, but also pretty worth it because Hasook's face made it clear that he understood exactly where he'd gone wrong. Once the metalbender cops' cables snared Hasook, Mako shook his head and stopped laughing.Â
He kept his hands in plain sight and just waited. One of the cops restrained him as well -- Mako knew the procedure pretty well for a civilian -- and two others got him to his feet.
"You're both under arrest for disturbing the peace," one of the ranked cops said, and there was a mention of 'bending', but Mako didn't hear it.Â
It was stupid. He knew Hasook had a dad. But the mention still made him flinch a little. Mako frowned, and even that hurt his face.
Mako took a deep breath as he looked up at the Sato house, wondering if it was normal to feel like his heart was trying to climb up his throat. It didn't make sense -- he'd been out on dates with Asami before...
'But this is the first time that she's going along with one of your ideas... and not something safe like a lunch date...' some insecure inner voice reminded him. Mako set his jaw and released that breath. He couldn't back out now. He'd made the offer to take Asami dancing, and she'd accepted, and he didn't want to disappoint her.
"OH YEAH" Hasook just felt like he had to let it out. Despite Mako managing to melt the ice block somewhat, Hasook had still floored him. Like the champion he knew he was.
Hasook threw his arms into the air in triumph and caught the eyes of several people in the awestruck crowd of onlookers. "YEAH. THATS WHAT YOU GET MAKO!" he threw his pointed finger towards Mako and attempted to humiliate him further. "THAT IS WHAT YOU-....get...."
Hasook had turned around when he heard the fan blades, but seen nothing- until he looked up. There, hovering rougly 50ft in the air was a metalbender airship. He switched his gaze back to some members of the crowd who were slowly backing away, forming a circle around the two boys; deserting them. Hasook lowered his pointed figure and looked down at Mako who was still lying in the pavement. He was smiling.
Hasook had completely gone against his own plan and used illegal bending first. This was bad. This was very bad. He barely had time to think before he heard the whirring of the metal cables and Republic City's finest were hurtling down towards him.
Mako couldn't help it. It hurt like hell to smile, but even just the look on Hasook's face was hilarious, let alone the whole (slightly absurd) situation. He'd been expecting the cops to show sometime -- airships over the city and all that -- but it was clear that the waterbender had forgotten.
"Don't resist," he managed to speak through the pain in his face, "that just makes 'em mad."
He held up both hands in a gesture of surrender and slowly sat up as the cops closed in.
