Scrolling through instagram and every reel proves that the fandom is just full of ‘larpers’ thanks to covid. Like there was this video of a girl at a con asking this guy to rank random animes. And he hadn’t watched the majority of them. Didn’t know about Yuri on Ice, Kamisama Kiss, Solo Leveling, etc. He said he had only watched the major animes 😒 What are you doing at an anime convention then???!!!! Anime used to be the embarrassing shit you told no one or you got bullied. I’ve been a fan for over a decade so I know what I’m talking about!

Or there will be videos where folks show off their manga collection and admit to reading none of it- just buying what’s popular to show off. Clearly someone has never suffered the pain of having to rummage through thrift stores to find oop manga or actually keep up with a series and have it turn out to be mid so you get rid of $100+ manga. Nope, you just buy whatever’s popular and don’t form your opinions.

Oh! And all the videos of people being like, it was just a phase and getting rid of their entire collections because guess what??!! They started watching in 2020 or 2021 and were just a poser. Covid has turned anime/manga into pure consumerism. Like that’s the indicator of a true ‘anime’ fan now.

I know it’s been talked about before how people had nothing else to do during covid so they just jumped onto anime. But man it’s still annoying.
