          she,  a  glass  shard  embedded  within  her  midsection,  and  he,  motionless  and  lacking  feeling  in  the  lower  half  of  his  body,  indicating  the  shattered  state  of  several  broken  bones.  his  lack  of  mobility  aside,  her  freedom  is  no  more  copious  than  his  own,  and  he’s  quick  to  pull  himself  up  into  a  sitting  position  when  she  moves  to  retrieve  his  cellular  device.

           loathed  though  he  is  to  admit  it,  his  entire  body  screams  despite  the  minimal  movement.  once  perfectly  manicured  nails  dug  into  the  palms  of  his  chaffed  hands  as  he  curled  lengthy  fingers  into  fists,  teeth  GRINDING  against  themselves  in  his  pitiable  attempt  to  muffle  a  groan.  tears  spring  forth  from  the  corners  of  squeezed  shut  eyes,  and  he  curses  himself  internally  for  the  exhibition  of  such  blatant  weakness.  DEEP  BREATH,  KAIBA.  a  shaky,  albeit  necessary  one,  that  emerges  from  his  nose  in  a  dry  wheeze.  the  taste  of  iron  is  strong,  ‘pon  his  tongue,  worsened  tenfold  in  the  way  he  constantly  attempts  to  wash  away  the  bitterness  by  swallowing.

      absolutely  not.           absolutely  NOT.                ABSOLUTELY  NOT.

             now  is  not  the  time  for  hindrances  and  inconveniences  such  as  this.  in  a  rushed  movement,  he’s  extending  his  arm  to  reach  for  his  phone,  snatching  it  from  her  with  a  sharp  hiss  of  discontentment.  her  verbal  showing  of  pain  does  not  bypass  trained  ears—  dare  she  think  him  blind,  or  naive?  ‘tis  tempting,  to  call  her  out,  but  he  knows  now  is  NOT  the  time  for  needless  pettiness.  nay,  he  quickly  sets  to  dialing  for  the  head  of  security,  whom  he  KNOWS  is  but  a  short  distance  away,  by  the  blinking  circle  on  the  tracking  map.  “  i  need  you  h-here,  NOW,  “  seto  all  but  screeches  into  the  phone,  pausing  briefly  only  to  let  out  a  series  of  raspy  coughs  that  made  his  lungs  feel  like  pin  cushions.

               ‘  click…  ‘

                           —  and  then,  he’s  left  with  kanna,  again,  whom  he  eyes  intently  through  the  blurred  filter  that  had  overtaken  his  sight.  “  you’d…  better  not  die  on  me.  “  indeed,  his  team  was  close.  indeed,  they  were  MORE  than  capable  of  locating  them,  at  this  point,  but  time  was  a  cruel  and  willing  mistress  of  death.  the  longer  it  took,  the  less  likely  it  would  become  that  BOTH  of  them  would  be  emerging  from  this  ALIVE.  

       she blinks once, twice, three times - each time she closes && opens her eyes, images around her seem sharper. and then seconds later everything gets FOGGY again. even breathing is difficult, she makes some effort to move the chest as little as possible while trying to bring the air into her LUNGS. kanna needs to compose herself, she needs to think clearly - is the ( only way ) she has to be useful. her mind is her STRONGEST WEAPON, staying conscious is kanna's priority now. to do this, she knows she needs to save her breath && effort, so that ( and not just for that ) she doesn't PROTEST when seto takes the cell phone from her hand while she makes contact with his men.

       “  ------  i’m... not gonna die...  ”     she murmurs. her voice sounds WEAK but compelling. deep breath.     “  we need to wait for them. your men.  ”

       she lays her BODY on the floor, her head resting on the cold concrete as she feels the weight of the world over it. she can hear, however, seto's ragged breathing ; the sound of his pain is almost blaring, echoing && beating against the walls as audible as the sound of a siren. kanna’s facing him with sleepy eyes, her BLACK HAIR scattered across the mirrored floor. and suddenly everything seems to lose importance, her worries ( dissolve ) in the cold wind entering through the broken window. the only thing she keeps in mind is:

          stay awake. stay awake. AWAKE.                  17% chance of survival.

       the shards of glass shine in the moonlight like SOLITARY DIAMONDS, but the wet shards of blood sparkle like fire RUBIES.

       they need a promise.        a promise of blood.

       “  ...  ”     weakly, she extends her right hand into the black CASE where she holds her deck tied to her left arm. she picks up the first card - her fingers dirty with dried blood - and positions it face down. kanna pushes the card at him.     “  ------  this is my most precious treasure. you... need to return it to me... when this is all over.  ”

       the face down card is the main card of her deck. she barely uses it, she usually doesn’t TRUST anyone to see it even in tournaments. usually. she knows seto will take some time to recognize the image in the card, but the DESCRIPTION will certainly make him understand why she made so much mystery about it.
