There's of course the sensible take of: This is an evil entity that is trying to control me and my two options are to fall into line or to die fighting And then there might be another thought that might be seductive when he is feeling vulnerable:

That this is how it was always supposed to be, fated even. That might makes right. That following this being is divinity. This is a path that allows him to feel powerful and in control.

This methodology would make the day by day a lot easier to swallow ,for sure. Dipping your toes into insanity, what he had been resisting so long becoming a tempting delusion. Not just falling into line anymore, but relishing in doing better, working harder. Being the number one right hand man you were intended to be.

Which would be in direct contrast to Brian, who's role and motivation has always been those around him. He is under no illusions.

Tim may be foolish enough to die in a burning house in search of power and meaning, but Brian would die in that same house every time to drag Tim out-- fighting tooth and nail if he resists.
