it's a steep driveway, with a wall (depicted on the left of the drawing) around our front yard on one side and another wall (depicted on the right of the drawing) along the next door neighbor's steps.  in the summer the car gets insanely hot.  a carport would help.  here's a plan i made for one that we'd build cheaply out of framing lumber and then grow vining plants on.

i think that the vast majority of toilets are pretty unattractive.  boring, at least.  so, how could you create a decent-looking piece of furniture out of a toilet?  this idea is assuming that i would build something around an existing toilet, which would preserve its function and relative cleanliness.  it's one of the few things i don't think i've ever seen a designer try to tamper with: toilet design.  and why not?!

a sketch from a few years ago of ideas for the front yard.  we have actually implemented several of the things i suggested here.  not exactly, but there are a lot of similarities between how it has turned out and what i planned out here.  thing is, after i drew this, it got tucked away, and i never referred to it, so it was like, "oh, neat!" to look at it again now.

trying to plan out some way to get extra space in the bedroom.  in this method, we bust out the ceiling, leaving the roof where it is, so it's not like adding on another story.  the space underneath the bed is too low to walk under, so in this method, there would be something like clothing storage under the bed.  clothing storage is, after all, one thing we're very short on.

stippling practice.  that's a mechanical pencil sharpener with a metal cup over it and some books off to the left behind them.

i'd been meaning to compile the frames of this walk cycle for a while now, and it slipped off my to-do list.  oops.  but here it is, at last.  drawn for an animation class i took a few years ago, the creature was designed by me, initially for the 'egg rock' animation assignment.

wardrobe in my bedroom.  drew this sitting in bed, and since the giraffe-print airplane neck pillow was at the foot of the bed, i drew that in there, too.  2009.

(whoa... that's 12 years ago... i was 18 when i made this.  with all the things i've lost and all the places i've lived since then, i'm truly surprised i've hung onto it.)

about 7 years ago, i found two of these chairs, both in quite a state of disrepair, sitting by a dumpster, driving through one of those neighborhoods where people's houses cost upward of a million dollars, despite being just like the houses in my neighborhood.  that's L.A. for you.  they're not my favorite chairs of all times, but they have been sturdy and serviceable for all these years now, despite their ragged appearance.  since we didn't buy them, and they're really shabby, we have never been careful with them, rocking back in the chair & putting strain on its joinery, standing on them to reach up-high places, and occasionally using them as makeshift sawhorses.  they just keep on being great furniture.  i love it when the stuff you have that was free is way better than the things you paid for.  i also love old things, if that much isn't clear, and i love making sketches of my favorite (or the most interesting) parts of these old things.

i wasn't trying to draw this in perspective.  i was just going for orthogonal, but screwed that up and got this wobbly bit of linework.  but you can pretty well tell what this old wooden dresser looks like that lives in my kitchen anyhow.  the front is curved, the handles are wood, and it's all painted cream.  a couple of the keyholes are missing their escutcheons, but the lock is intact in all but one drawer.  it's pretty old.  vintage or maybe antique by now.  sorta rickety and imperfect.  so the drawing is actually a good match!  ^__^
