Jungian analyst Marion Woodman describes the Virgin archetype as having less to do with physical intactness and purity as it does with emotional wholeness and sovereign power. The Virgin archetype is whole, belonging to herself, and impregnated with divine love. “She is who she is because that is who she is.” She is free of the dictates of family and culture. The Virgin reconciles all opposites within herself and has everything she needs within to bring new things to life.

“They’re all gonna laugh at you”
Carrie (1976), dir. Brian De Palma
Chaxiraxi was the sun mother goddess of the Guanche (Canary Islands) people during the Middle Ages. Her name "Chaxiraxi" means "the one who carries the one who has the world." She is often pictured as a mother, carrying her child, the personification of the sun. [x]
Statue of Our Lady of Candelaria, a later version of Chaxirixi, merged with the Virgin Mary.
Some researchers have connected her to the earlier worship of "the Southern Star" in Guanche culture, in which they revered Canopo as the principal star of the sky; the oldest, the mother of all stars. [x]

Febrero 2
Feliz Día A Nuestra Señora De La Candelaria
Okay so like totally unbiased and innocent statement abt Carrie 2026 but judging by the pictures we have, I think Margaret's favorite color is green.
Like she's wearing green or smth with a greenish undertone in almost every pic AND her whole kitchen is green apparently????
Just smth I noticed
(Also please do not argue in the comments!! I'm not trying to create discourse or anything!!)
The fact that you had to make that last disclaimer because people are so deranged about Carrie 2026 on this hellsite 😭
I actually had the post on private for a little bit out of fear of the fandom attacking me lol 😭
Understandable!
I might be forgetting some members of the 2026 hate train because I blocked so many of them, but I don’t think it’s the actual fandom that’s being that deranged about Carrie 2026.
Like there are plenty of people in the fandom who are critical of Carrie 2026, but it seems the people acting the most unhinged about it are people who never really posted nor cared about Carrie before.
Again I might be forgetting some folks if they’re in my block list 😹

This is coming from a plus size person, but do you know how fatphobic it comes across when someone says that Carrie is supposed to be unattractive when you actually mean she is plus size? Yes I would love to see a plus size Carrie and have it acknowledged that her weight played a part in her bullying. But Carrie isn’t meant to be ugly, she was said to be cute as a kid. She wasn’t allowed to dress in clothes that were flattering to her or take care of herself, but that doesn’t mean she is ugly, that isn’t exclusive to weight. We are also seeing Carrie through the extremely shallow lens of her classmates who bullied her. Also while her weight played a part in her bullying, it started because her mom was an unpleasant woman and her daughter unfairly got the brunt of the judgement the town had towards Margaret because Margaret was a very violent woman who had no problem with throwing hands when she got offended and Carrie didn’t fight back until she was pushed to the breaking point. I say this as someone who has adored Carrie since high school.

ALSO people have to stop regurgitating “people didn’t laugh at Carrie because they thought it was funny, but because they were so uncomfortable.”
They’re getting that from what Carrie’s classmate Norma wrote in her article, but Norma was full of shit. She was clearly just trying to justify her cruelty and protect her image.
Norma contradicted herself and said they all laughed because it looked like Carrie was in blackface (???). Then she admitted that somebody tripped Carrie on her way out and it made everyone, including herself, laugh even harder. Those aren’t the actions of people who laughed because they were uncomfortable.
“It was either laugh or cry” Then cry??? There’s something deeply wrong with anyone who laughs at an innocent person being soaked in rotting blood.
One of the worst things De Palma did in Carrie 1976 was make it so that, unlike the book (in which everyone really was laughing), Carrie imagined a lot of the laughter.
Whenever people talk about how Carrie’s crash out was valid, there are inevitable responses like “umm she hallucinated all of the laughter, everyone was shocked, they were innocent 🤓” which is false, anyway. De Palma said “a lot of it” (not all) was imagined. You can still see many people laughing after her kaleidoscope vision ends and you can hear laughter in the background when the camera focuses on Chris and Billy outside of the gym.
Not that it really matters anyway in terms of Carrie’s morality. More than any other Carrie except 2002, 1976 Carrie was barely conscious during the prom massacre. She’s more like a vessel for a supernatural force (not a demon - the book presents her as an avenging angel).
But then you have people applying De Palma’s vision (in which Carrie imagined a lot of the laughter) to the book and 2013 movie when almost everybody really did laugh in those adaptations.

re: your theory about emmaline being carrie's prom date in the upcoming version... I wonder if it does come to fruition if it'll be a situation where emmaline effectively takes tommy's role in the plan (i.e. they're the one that sue convinces to ask carrie) OR if emmaline genuinely does end up liking carrie and asks her for real, no scheme attached. I'm leaning towards the latter being more likely — maybe sue and tommy do initially plan on having him ask her, but then emmaline swoops in at the last second and does it for real? I love this theory btw and I think it would add such an interesting angle to the story!
I think she’ll end up liking Carrie for real! It looks like Emaline and Carrie are running away from an exploding car in this scene in the teaser:
A behind-the-scenes photo shows transphobic graffiti on a poster for an LGBT safe space, so I imagine Carrie 2026 may be incorporating themes of homophobia and transphobia. Maybe Emaline and Carrie become a couple (or are perceived as a couple) and that’s one of the reasons people bully them.
Note: my friend @vigilantechic is the genius who pointed out both of the above to me.
I also think perhaps Emaline is the stand-in for all of the trauma Carrie suffered doing youth, like everybody always treated Emaline the way they treated Carrie. That would fix people’s concerns about Carrie destroying a town that “only” bullied her for a few months.* They tortured her only friend/girlfriend for years.
*(It seems to me they’re condensing the bullying Carrie herself ever suffered into this relatively short period of time, and the level of abuse that the teaser shows Chamberlain inflicting on a new student whose dad just died already makes sense of the town destruction IMO, but some people disagree.)
Regardless, this would show how Carrie is avenging all outcasts, and the LGBT community in particular, not just herself.
An interviewer told the cast of Carrie 2026 “as an adult, I view Carrie differently, now I realize they were kids who didn’t know better-“
That’s funny because at nearly 30, I view it as even worse now than I did when I first watched/read Carrie at 16.
These people murdered an innocent animal and soaked someone in its days-old rotting blood. Classmates knew this is what happened (someone shouted “my God, that’s blood!” and they could smell it rotting) and they LAUGHED about it and even assaulted the victim as she ran out. Also, animal blood is bad enough, but it could’ve been a human’s blood for all they knew.
That’s seriously deranged. Like, “I’m a future serial killer” type of shit. There’s no way a normal, mentally stable person “just didn’t know any better 🥺”

I wonder if Sims 2 drew inspiration from Carrie’s mom Margaret for Mrs. Crumplebottom
