ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Food. It's something Leo has never had to think about a day in his life, unless he was assigned kitchen duty in camp (and then it was easy: something with tomatoes). In Nohr, the prince merely had to mention a trifling craving, and it would be delivered to his side by a dutiful servant. Every meal was tailored to the royal family's tastes, a different dish for each member, plated and served right to their seat. Sure, the army had some peculiar recipes, but he didn't consider himself a picky eater.
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย He wasn't a picky eater, certainly, even as he failed to mask the frown on his face. What manner of dish was this? Strange seasonings, vegetables the likes of which he'd never seen before, meats of a flavor and texture unlike Nohrian livestock. And worst of all, the dining hall was a noisy mess of students and faculty, plates and cutlery clinking carelessly as commoners talked with their mouths full โ Leo's appetite was rapidly waning โ and nary a servant to aid with serving and clearing dishes. He felt like a fish beached on a foreign shore.
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Foreign, until a familiar voice over his shoulder cuts short his silent lamentations. Leo turns, unsurprised to find Camilla's retainer, Selena, at his back.
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย There's a certain twitch to her lips that tells him she's holding back a smirk, one that makes him wonder if he ought to beg mercy lest she tell Camilla about his despondent dinner.
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย "Good evening, Selena. No, you've, ah, caught me at a bad time..." Leo clears his throat. "I was merely lost in thought, is all."
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย He isn't picky. He can be quite accommodating, in fact! Gods know how many times Felicia burnt or overseasoned meals back home. But, well... those were foods he liked, even if mishandled in one way or another.
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Leo maintains the faรงade for a moment longer, then sighs heavily, setting aside his fork. "...All right. Was it that obvious? It's just so... different. Everything here. I miss Nohrian bread and hearty beef stew and fresh tomatoes... Even the tomatoes here are different, Selena. Can you believe it...?"
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Maybe that explains his mood. There's a half-eaten salad by his plate: not a hint of tomato remains, but Leo never frowns when tomatoes are on the menu. Something must be amiss.
