This place was different to what Kiran was used to. Not in a horrible way or anything, just… different. The kind that Kiran was slow to get used to. Rather than the day fading past them in the blink of an eye, they watched as the day stretched on and on and on without much to do.
Perks of a small town, they guessed.
At least school wasn’t so bad. Sure, some teachers would throw them a random curveball to psyche ‘em out but! Kiran was so very prepped! More or less. What is it with teachers and picking on students… there’s gotta be better engagement tactics than this…
Today was more or less the same. Get up, eat breakfast, go to school, go home, do homework or explore, go to bed. Rinse and repeat. Or so it was supposed to be, but, like, Kiran heard this weird rumour. Something about a Midnight Channel? And who would they be if they didn’t at least check it out! Plus, it wasn’t like their insomnia was gonna let ‘em sleep either way.
And so, here they were, staring blankly at this blank TV screen. They’d snuck in here after they were super duper, 100% sure, no one else would be around. Part of the curious fun! Aaaaand, I just know I’ll get a lecture if I’m caught… Please no one get a midnight snack, pretty please!
They had, of course, failed to consider the creepiness factor of a kid just staring at a blank TV in a dark room.

Can't we settle this over Rock-Paper-Scissors?

There had been something brewing over the past few months. Little things, quips and acts that had stirred dark clouds amongst the people at the academy. Nothing serious had yet to have come from it, but with everything, if left unchecked? A snowball can grow to a size far to large to stop.
Perhaps Niamh should have been aware of this petty argument. She had taken interest in riding a wyvern for some time, and her time watching others guide the creatures through the air made it easier for her to pick up the basics. Even she could tell at the time that something was off with the riders, too, when she had taken on this mission.
But, the thing is...Niamh never was one to pick on subtle cues like this. She had no reason to see the wyvern as superior - liked, perhaps, by her, but not the best. She had watched the horses as they barreled down the racetracks during those illegal races. She's seen the precision that a pegasus knight flies with, encountered in combat both as an ally and as an adversary. Each had their strengths, and she was enamored by those differences.
So, when their belongings had been toyed with, Niamh stares puzzled as some of the others prattle off about sabotage from the other riders. Were they really the only ones who could?
So, she decides to ask the person who travels with her. 'What do you think?' Of everyone here, she sees no reason for Kiran to sabotage the wyvern that's given them a ride all the way here. From what Niamh understands, Kiran hasn't had a lot of experience riding, either. They had come along with a shared interest in the flower - something Niamh could relate to.
So, she seeks their opinion, both with the matter at hand, and the timer that eats at the glow that the flowers have.

It was easy to see the underlying frustration and animosity lying with each petty quip, though Kiran had assumed it was something lighthearted. The kind of arguments that arose from competitiveness but like any argument right before a game, it should’ve gone by the wayside by now. But, of course, nothing was quite that simple.
Looking over at their riding equipment, they furrowed their brows. Either the gods hate me or someone tampered with our stuff… honestly, both sound pretty likely right now. There went lighthearted, competitive banter. It was only now, with this new lens to look at the situation through, that Kiran grew to see the actual disdain the others held for each other. You’d think they’d understand it a bit better, what with them being a tactician during the War, but that was their mistake. Still…
It’s not like we were even involved in this whole thing… Niamh doesn't seem like the type to incite anything either…
Which probably meant it wasn’t a targeted attack on either of them (considering Kiran didn’t know anyone else here and all). Maybe something about that rivalry? If it was… they glanced at the glaring units. At their friend’s question, they hummed and shrugged.
I think it’s too early to say. I doubt we are the only ones who were targeted, maybe we can ask for info as we help others out? You might need to explain what I would need to do to help, though, haha…
Hopefully, their lack of wyvern knowledge wouldn’t be their demise...

riding into the sunset and… into the maws of a beast (pretty please!)
Lucky for Bruno, Kiran hadn’t been watching him so the sudden jump passed them by. But they didn’t miss the rest of it. An adventure, huh? Well, it better count as one—I’m sure Alfonse would have fun listening in too. Right after they convince him of how very safe it was with Bruno around.
They nodded, a few giggles coming out from his words. I’m glad too! I’m sure Villi is also happy we didn’t find anything scary. As for their own horse? Well… as chill as ever, like they’d just seen some butterfly. Wonder what’s going on in that brain of theirs…
Now onto their next adventure… Maybe, maybe! Maybe a rabbit will try to jumpscare us on our way back. I don’t have any carrots to feed one though…
The biggest tragedy of all, really. How were they going to make animal friends like this?
"Unfortunate." Laughed, quietly, as he turned Vili back around. "We can carry carrots with us the next time we embark on such an adventure. Perhaps it would also be wise to bring some fish," for the cats, "or some beast meat..." for the dogs...
As they spun back toward their path, Bruno blinked — when did it grow to be so dark? Sun now fallen far past the horizon, its light barely visible through the tops of the canopies, and he tilted his head back toward Kiran. "Perhaps we should hurry, lest the truly scary animals find us here in the night, yes?" Not only would it be ideal for Alfonse to not take worry at the theoretical danger they were both in, but—
"I'm afraid I would jump out of my own skin," he murmured, amused, "if another cat were to appear. Truly, the most terrifying of them all."
The only suitable reaction was a pout like no other, followed by brimming excitement. They nodded along to Bruno’s words. Alfonse would actually be worried if they weren’t back sooner rather than later. Yes, let’s! Can’t have you or Vili spooked out of your minds, who’s gonna be the voice of reason, then?
Their smile turned somewhat teasing. They hummed to themself as they rode back. You know, I am curious… what do you think’s going on in my horse’s mind right now? Maybe Bruno, in his horse riding wisdom held the answers to the mysteries of Kiran’s riding thoughts.
As if understanding their question, their horse snorted. They moved slightly ahead only to fall into a standstill. Blinking, they looked down to see a… plant? Very normal looking, with leaves and all that. No flowers though, maybe that was the curiosity point? Glancing over at Bruno, a silent question was asked—what were they supposed to do?

Maintaining the smile on her face, the lich didn't let it fall until the door closed. Gods, how did Sharena do that all the time? Thrasir breathed in a breath she didn't need and released it, thankfully that hadn't gone horribly bad... the Summoner thanked her, which felt... odd but... she accepted it with a nod.
"It was no issue," she murmured. "Thank-you for not calling out my lie that I was part of your house."
It was just easier that way. A horrible shield perhaps, a lie easily discovered. But for the sake of not causing trouble for the Summoner, she would maintain the lie for as long as she could get away with it.
Seeing the next house that was pointed to, the lich nodded. Alright then. Hopefully the people they spoke to there would react well and they could move on just as swiftly. Thrasir gestured for the Summoner to lead on.
Kiran blinked. Once, then, twice. Oh. On the bright side, I haven’t been accidentally ignoring her up until now? Their smile returned in record speed as they waved their hands dismissively. A small lie to protect another, that was fine. Just had to make sure neither got caught.
With her go ahead, they did a quick salute before walking on ahead. Now that they had a trial run, this time would surely go quicker, right? Knocking on the door, they hummed.
“Uhm… almost got it… ah-ha! Hi there!!”
The door slowly creaked open to reveal a… kid? Well, someone who was definitely younger than either of them. Would that make things easier or harder? Smiling, Kiran waved, pointing quickly to the other’s little sticker. That’d speed things up, right? The kid squinted up at the two.
“Qua… quo… oh! Helpers! What’re you helping with?”
At that cue, Kiran held out a package for her to take and glanced over at their partner in this. Hooopefully, she was still okay with talking?

Selena never was one to stick her nose into other people's business ( unless it looked REALLY juicy ), but there is something about the way one of the students of her house walks that makes them stand out to her. She cannot even name what it is about them- Kiran, she thinks was their name- perhaps it's their posture or the way they keep looking at the paper in their hands that makes the redhead fret.
.... Only because it's technically her job! You know... teachers or staff are supposed to look after the students- obviously. What kind of terrible mentor would she be if she doesn't lend a hand when the young ones obviously need her skills and expertise.
She hadn't taught a class herself, outside of basic physical training drills, but Selena makes it a goal to know what students are in the BEST house- The Blue Lions ( Because she is apart of it, duh ). So she must step in to make sure there are no weak links!

Oh the woes of having ball-related blackmail. How this stranger managed to figure out what they’d done (with proof!) just a bit before the ball had begun. Or maybe it was some other blackmail? Still, that wasn’t the real reason they were walking around like a scuttling mouse.
Amiibo Gazebo? Really? What a weird place for blackmail…
Maybe it was a threat in and of itself? To become an Amiibo yourself, trapped in the Gazebo until some nice witch or fairy or mage decided to free you? It sounded stupid but also that would be very funny. Honestly, they could accept the use of blackmail if that was the aim.
Actually, wait, no. How’ll I talk to any of my friends?
Nevermind, maybe this was a deadly threat to be taken extremely serious—huh? Blinking, they looked up to find… a stranger. No, actually, wasn’t she kind of familiar? Ohhhh maybe this was a substitute Blue Lions professor! Did the Academy have subs?
Oh, shoot, right, the paper. Okay, act natural Kiran. They could so pull off having the best poker face ever. Oh, nothing important, Miss!
It would’ve almost been believable if they hadn’t dropped the paper while signing. Unfolded. With the contents for all to read. Unknowingly too, for they just looked at her like they hadn’t done that.

Soon after she pushed forward, the standing position of the young boy rapidly transformed into a swift dodge on the side, but… that wasn’t it! In less than a second, Minerva found herself in a very risky pose, where the tip of the wooden weapon of the young professor almost got in touch with the delicate skin of her throat, making the Macedon princess flicker for an instance, but the pose was quick and they immediately drew back the weapon from her weak spot and turned again on a waiting pose, possibly pondering what kind of next move Minerva would like to learn.
And they were damn right; as Minerva slowly realized the consequences of actions, she lowered her weapon and stared at the weapon of Kiran for a long moment, admiring the bravery and eagerness they put into a reaction that was perfect and unexpected –exactly what Minerva wanted to learn from a seminary like that, not the obvious, ma the most unpredicted.
“That was…really good” she complimented them, backtracking a little just to put enough distance to observe the standing professor, “I’m so glad I’ve chose you as professor Kiran” she bowed her head a little, then she continued, excited at the thought of the new request: “In a situation like the one from few moments before, my best option probably was to attempt a disarm, so…” she paused, wondering if it actually was a correct choice for the situation, but soon after continued with her new request, “I’d like to see and learn how to disarm an enemy using a sword!” and she posed herself ready to watch and learn the proper way to deal with an close-up enemy, which meant two options: disengaging or disarming –she chose the latter, of course.
And with that said, she dashed again towards the young professor, pointing the sword at them with no intention to hurt, but with the hope to see how the disarm with swords worked.
The praise surprised Kiran, jolting them out of their waiting pose and into a sheepish smile. A quickly mouthed ‘thank you’ and, in turn, they bowed their head as well. That was the right course of action, right? Wasn’t just another fumble of theirs? No time to think about it, though, thank whatever god was ignoring them, because she moved right along to what she’d like to do next.
Hmmm, I think I remember that class. Okay so…
To disarm the opponent, Kiran first got into the right form. The class itself was only somewhat in their memory. Vague notions of what to do but nothing too specific. Which, of course, meant that the process was quite a bit sloppier on their end.
Roll: d20 — 10
Lucky for them, the professor wasn’t intending to hurt them during this so their amateurish ways could be worked around. Somewhat. A bit of a stumble as they moved their sword against hers. From memory, it should’ve been a more swirly (?) motion to disarm her. Except that became pretty hard when someone was applying their own strength to the sword.
Maybe they should really work on their strength.
The force applied did seem to jostle the other’s sword a little, almost loosening her grip on it but nowhere near enough to actually disarm. They clicked their tongue but attempted to teach using it. They did fail, sure, but a learning experience was a learning experience. Gesturing towards her, they made the movements again (not against her sword this time) so she could do it against them this time.
Chances were, she’d actually pull it off. If not, well… they could always try doing it again?

In lieu of any visceral reaction, Flayn simply stood there, completely and utterly frozen. For her senses were overwhelmed by a shock so great that it shut down the delicate machinery that made her mind work. She was not alone in this response, however—nearby fisherfolk also gawked at the pond, equally as still.
Then, Flayn threw her fishing rod to the side and knelt by the edge of the dock, bending over to look into the murky waters. The bystanders flinched, some of them ready to surge forward to grab her lest she, too, fell into the pond, but Flayn remained stable in her position. Eyes frantically searched within the depths for any sign of them—a strange movement in the water, a pair of golden eyes, a fishing rod that was slowly surfacing. But she found nothing. So she shouted at the water.
"Hello? Can you hear me?" They probably couldn't, "I'm sorry, I can't really see you... Erm, just hold on!"
She grabbed her fishing rod, stood up, and closed her eyes. O Goddess, guide my line. Let it fly true and deliver that which has fallen into peril. Give me the strength to return them to safety!
Taking a deep breath, Flayn casted the line. The glittery green bobber disappeared into the water, carrying with it the possibility for salvation.
Falling into the waters and sinking were two very different, very distinct feelings. The fishing rod remained in their hands, held onto by whatever strength they had left. Golden eyes scanned the blurry areas for any sign of whatever it was that dragged them down here. Well. I don’t see it yet so… time to figure out a way back up.
Swimming was probably a good start. So was not breathing in any of the water. Okay, how to—Huh? Is someone… talking?
They squinted as if that would open their ears to the sounds any better. It didn’t. The voice sounded familiar as… wibbly wobbly as it was. Probably a good idea to swim towards the voice then. Alright, direction, they could work with this. Probably. Maybe. Hopefully.
Why was it suddenly so hard to swim?
Would be real nice to be summoned away from here right… now… They blinked. Was that a fishing line? Well, the green bobber of their fishing mentor so…
Okay, body, get in gear!
With all their will, they rushed forward—er, well, tried to. Their swimming skills were less than impressive, to say the least. It took a few minutes, probably more but they felt like minutes, to get into arm’s reach of the bobber. Attempt one. A swing and a miss. The bobber only swayed slightly in the waves—kind of embarrassing. Attempt two, they grabbed on with all their might.
Maybe I should abandon my fishing rod too…

partners in crime (please help)
Honestly, the thing was asking for it. You can’t even blame her really, what kinda box flashes a little red light like that if it isn’t just begging for her to pounce on it? Not to mention how easily it broke open to reveal all those neat tangles of long strings! Kinda like the inside of a bird, but, you know. Shiny. And less squishy. And without all the blood and bones and stuff.
Man, it’s so considerate of the monastery people to bring the joy of hunting to the people of the indoors! Her one complaint with being inside always has been there’s nothing good to track. Well, except bugs, but people seem to be less okay with it when she tries to eat a bug for some reason. Maybe the box was just a weird bug…?
…Nah. The crunch kinda matches, but it’s too clean and tastes too bad to be a bug. Either way, it’s still the thought that counts! Even if the thought was like a solid 6/10. Satisfying chew at least. For the first few minutes until she got bored and decided to leave, anyway.
“Hm?” Selkie pauses mid-skip away from the crime scene at the tap on her shoulder, one ear lowering alongside her head as she tilts it at the stranger and their… weird silent pointing. Clearly a message of some kind, but if they had something to say, why wouldn’t they just say it? Unless…
“Oooh, are we playing a game?! I love games! Lemme guess, don’t tell me, uh…” Focus, Selkie. What do we have? Two broken cameras… both of them… and a clap… “You… You hate boxes! You’re the box flattener! I’m the box flattener? You wanna fuse the boxes into one giant mega box! No, wait— You wanna fuse US into a giant mega box! Oh, Oh! You…”
Selkie gasps, both of her ears dropping down to the sides of her head and her tail stopping dead in its excited wagging behind her in favor of winding around her leg in shame. “Oh no, were you gonna eat that?! Gosh — I am SO sorry, I had no idea someone else called dibs! I can find you another one, if you want? My nose is real good, I can have a fresh one tracked down in no time!”
In some ways, Kiran’s gestures and signs could be seen as a game of charades. So maybe their new partner in crime wasn’t too off with the game thing. Only…

They paused before shaking their head at ‘hating’ boxes (boxes could be fun! Except! These weren’t boxes, so maybe it didn’t… y’know what, if she thinks the camera was a box, then it was a box). They nodded twice at her next guesses because she and they were, indeed, the box flatteners. After that? Kind of went places Kiran had not expected.
Before they could even shake their head, the other seemingly came to a devastating realisation. Finally! They were on the same page about the accidental crime—what was she talking about? Eat a camera?!? There’s no way that’s healthy or safe. Then again, maybe it’s possible… nope, nope! No bad decision making Kiran! C’mon!
Emphatically, they shook their head. For extra good measure, they added their arms into the movement too. After a few seconds, when the message of ‘no way!’ was clearly communicated (it had to be, right???), they looked over the cameras again. Alright, time for take 2.
They pointed to themself and their camera/box, her and her camera/box. After that, they gestured to the area around them. And then imitated the walk, stance and gesturing of a monastery staff. Pointed to themself and her and then got mad as random monastery staff member. The expression of anger disappeared completely once they were done.
Alright! This was sure to go over well! At least better than eating cameras.
dancing and the despair it brings (to the inexperienced)
When she had first decided to offer free dance lessons, Ninian assumed not that many people would seek her out. Most of the students at the Academy were nobles, after all, and from her understanding they would have learned ballroom dancing from a young age... And so, even with all of the excitement around the Ethereal Ball, she thought few would need her help.
With three students standing before her at once, though, she was beginning to think she had underestimated the event’s level of importance. Not that she minded, per se — she was happy to dance, and happier still to help others —; but all this attention did bring a rosy blush to her cheeks...
Luckily, the two girls who arrived first only wanted to ask a few questions for the time being: Whether she was offering lessons only to beginners, and when assured that she could teach all skill levels, whether she might teach the Archanean minuet.
— She really had underestimated the Ball’s importance, hadn’t she...? She might, yes, but it would require she prepare the lesson ahead of time. As the pair took their leave, she turned her gaze on the one still there.
“ I’m sorry to have kept you waiting, ” she began with a gentle smile. “ You’re here for a dance lesson, yes? I am Ninian, and I will be your teacher for today. ”
There were many perks with not going first for the dance lessons. One of which being that Kiran had a clearer idea of what would happen during said dance lessons. Well, the general overview, at least. It also gave them some time to write out a half decent intro, which they definitely didn’t forget to do earlier, nope.
Oh—she’s back! Alright, Kiran, no backing out now. Gotta just… get through this!
Still, it was probably better for all involved that Kiran went last since… sigh, they were, sadly, coming to the very heartbreaking realisation that their gestures could be difficult to parse. At least this way the dance teacher wouldn’t have to watch them fumble over basic questions.
Smiling at her intro, they offered up the piece of paper with their hastily written introduction. Just their name and a question of what dance they’d be doing today. Golden eyes glanced at the room the other girls’ dance lesson was held, then back at the teacher.
They pointed over to the room with a tilt of their head. As if to ask whether or not they’d be going to that same room for their lesson. It seemed like a pretty good place, less people to accidentally see Kiran fumble the steps.

At the yelp, it was not Vili who jumped, but Bruno — who had not anticipated such a screech to come out of the tiny one. His grip tightened on Vili's reins as his body jerked back, only to relax quickly at the tabby darting away into the shadows. A pause, as his mouth parted slightly and a soft flush grew on his face.
At Kiran's signing, he shook his head. "No, this wasn't a waste of time." He laughed; Vili snorted (either at the tug of his reins or the comment, Bruno wasn't sure). "An adventure is an adventure — and we can tell them that we did find a beast at the end of the day."
...of sorts.
He smiled as eyes flickered up toward the darkening skies, and then back toward their path — or whatever hinted at it, in the form of trampled bushes and trees. Glancing over at Kiran, his smile only widened as he tucked his tome back into his bag. "At least, I'm glad we were able to embark on this together.
"Next time," he tilted his head in his jest, "maybe we'll find a dog."

A little bit more and hopefully this person would close the door and let them move on. Thrasir bit back an exasperated sigh, held her fake smile in place and nodded along to the asked question. Watching the Summoner's mime however, Thrasir blinked for a moment. A Blue Lion was it?
But also, those signs needed some serious work...

Thank their nonexistent lucky stars that she actually understood their signs and could say as much! What a relief, they knew they weren’t just that bad. Heh.
From the joy of that, they’d sort of drifted away from the conversation. But! They were back in it now! Just in time for the Prince Dimirei name drop. Good thinking, this way we’re more trustworthy. Probably.
“Oh, I see. In that case, I’ll let you two kids get back to it, thank you.”
Still, that ‘our’ didn’t go unnoticed. Was she really a part of their House? Oh no, did they completely miss her up ‘til now? I really need to keep a better eye out, wow…
With a smile that matched Sharena’s, the Summoner waved the stranger bye. Okay, one down!
Turning back to the other, they gave her a sweet treat, mouthing a ‘thank you’. Most of the convincing was done by her after all—mostly because Kiran’s gesturing needed some work. Or maybe the people here need to get better at charades… grumble grumble…
Next on the roster was a house a few blocks down. One they pointed to with ease.

She meets them on the fringes of the dance, smiling slightly at the way they fumble with their pages — it’s reminiscent of her date, and perhaps that is why she wields a rose towards them (though, of course, more kindly than she’s ever wielded her lance). “Good evening,” she greets, to the unfamiliar face. “What are you reading?” It must be difficult to read it in the low light… so perhaps it was a well-loved tome, or a very good volume. “I hope you’ll forgive the interruption, and take my rose as an apology.”
While the darkness was a bit of a hindrance, there was basically nothing that could stop Kiran from finishing this chapter. With everyone dancing, most didn’t notice their lack of participation. And then… she—huh?
Blinking, they looked up to find a rose and its owner looking down at them. They kept a finger in between the pages they’d read as they closed the book. It’d be easier to talk this way. Plus…
Kiran lifted up the book’s cover so the other could see it clearly. Then, they gave a very rapid set of nods with a thumbs up. It wasn’t quite accurate to their enjoyment (many more nods were needed, yep) but, it’d do.
Still, they took the rose with a smile on their face. Mouthing a quick ‘thank you’, they handed her a hyacinth of theirs. They pointed to her hair and the petals. A matching set—almost. It might’ve just been the lighting though.
