It's a little early for Valentine's Day, but that's not even really what I made it for so whatever. I've been working on this on and off for like. A month. Fiend in the Pomefiore uniform bc I thought it was so cute and I love playing dress up.
I'm. Struggling through book 6 tbh. For a few reasons. I don't care abt Ortho or Idia very much(but I'm hoping that changes. I do want to like these characters) and it's so longgggggg. I'm halfway through chapter 67 bc I've been putting it off, but man, I'm too stubborn for this. I keep playing stages until I win 51/49. I hate blind. I hate accuracy debuffs. I'm not upgrading any of the cards I'm using bc I'm trying to get lots of extra bonuses in the Stitch event. I want to know more abt the lore and the isle of Woe but they're not! Telling me! Anything! I get like two crumbs of world building then we're playing stupid minigames(I made my brother beat the minigames for me I hate the minigames)
On the bright side, I love the character matchups they're so funny. The actual character bits we've been getting in chapters 66 and 67 are so so so good. Riddle and Azul are so funny, and Jamil and Leona need to beat each other up a bit. It'll be good for them, I promise. The Rook and Vil story is also so good. I like Rook a lot.
Bit more under the cut, but it does get a bit morbid.
The part in book 6 where Vil says that his overblot phantom was a wrinkley old lady and how he's scared of getting old made me think. Like.... people are actually scared of getting old? Why is that? I've heard it a lot that it seems really common, but it always seemed so weird to me.
So I thought about it some more and tried to figure it out, and then it hit me.
I've genuinely never thought I'd live long enough to grow old.
The idea of having a life for that long is... is impossible for me. I still don't think it's going to happen. I'm still surprised I lived to be over twenty. I don't know what life is going to look like for me next year, or in two years, or in five. The idea of a future is so blurry to me that growing old is an impossibility.
So I'm imagining Fiend. It probably tucks the thought away in the back of its mind for now. But... yeah, seeing Vil so sad and scared at the idea of growing old really sticks with him.
They have this realization a little further down, keep it to herself, of course, but it really weighs heavily on her. That's.... that's *sad*.... so they're rightfully bummed out abt it but I don't wanna talk abt that rn or I'll cry. So.
Imagine what happens when Fiend finds out how long the fae live for. "Oh, that's awesome," <- Feeling an immense amount of relief that they aren't expected to live for a thousand years
Imagine how it reacts to listening to people wishing they could have the longevity of the fae or eternal youth? Imagine the confusion. What do you mean you want to live that long? What would you do? Why would you want that? That's so many *days* over and over and over again. Why would you *want* that? It's absurd.
But THOSE people have more than a skin deep zest for life. Sure, Fiend likes the little things, admiring flowers in bloom and sunsets and playing with the chickens and making art and being with its friends are GOOD and they LOVE that. But there's no.... well, they don't see the point in living that long. They don't have any goals or aspirations or *dreams*. So a short life that just kinda uhhhh ends whenever is fine. She's not upset over her mortality at all.
Anyways this is MY wish fulfillment self insert fantasy so I'm gonna idealize the FUCK out of it and say Fiend figures it out. They don't end up in the same cycle of depression and self hatred and isolation it resigned itself to in its old life, and it does end up motivated to continue living and experiencing joy and wakes up in the morning happy to be alive. THANK YOU
Adding on to my little ramblings here bc I've been going through all my writing and realizing. Wow. I have a lot of writing. But also I have a very cute kind of fluffy idea I have to write to make myself feel better abt this particular thing.
Anyways. So Fiend thinking that a long lifespan is a really horrible thing because what would you even do? Why would you ever want to live that long? You would have to make dinner so so so many times???? Fiend already doesn't want to live the rest of its natural lifespan, it can't imagine e living for hundreds or thousands of years.
I think one of the things that makes them feel better is listening to Lilia tell stories of his travels.
Lilia is very long lived. He's already done it and he's still living each day to the fullest. Idk. I just think it's something about listening to Lilia talk about the people he's met and the places he's seen and the food he's tried and everything he's managed to do and the joy he found in that. And not only has he already done it all, but he's still looking forward for more and genuinely cherishing each day he has.
I like the idea of Lilia telling Fiend that it should have some adventures of its own. It's one thing to listen to his stories and read about in books, but maybe the reason they're having a hard time with it is because they're not doing things they're excited to do.
Lilia knows that he can't just give Fiend a reason for living, most of what kept him going was Malleus, of course. He can't really replicate that experience for them nor would he lmao. But I think he just encourages them to be a bit more open to new things. If they can't picture the future, if they're bad at making plans, if it's something that scares them... well, they should try to find something good to hold onto, shouldn't they? Lilia will make a list of places he recommends going. If they need a guide, well, he's already been there once, right? It's good advice! He's lived for a while so he's quite wise, after all :)
