Need this
The urge not to edit⦠and just call it āartistic rawness.ā
Whatās hotter than an outline? An outline within an outline. Your story finally has flow and detail. Now you can write your chapter with ease. (Just kidding ā itās still painful.)

Since the dawn of my decision to pursue writing, the idea of intricate worldbuilding has always stood at the forefront of my imagination. At the time, however, I was not yet familiar with many of the great classics like Dickensā A Tale of Two Cities, Homerās Odyssey, or, most profoundly, John Miltonās Paradise Lost.
Even before I understood narrative structure or literary form, the foundation of my craft lay in a quiet fascination with faith and the subtle ways its ideas weave themselves into the fabric of our lives. Is God truly out there? watching over us, protecting us, or does the divine move in ways we could never grasp nor guess? These questions have lingered like whispers through time, shaping who I have become.
In time, Miltonās Paradise Lost gave form to those reflections. It made me wonder: what if faith were a fabricāa song of fractured time, passed from one generation to the next, its meaning shifting yet never lost? And if such faith exists, should one ever dare to defy its text?
From those questions, the world I built was born, a journey of self-reflection that bites at the heart of my own beliefs. A living, vivid world where humankind clings to faith as its path to salvationāa crown of spirituality spanning millennia, from healing to scar, from rise to ruin, from light into dark. A system bound to a greater mythopoeia, where belief endures even when what is worshipped remains something no mortal mind could ever truly comprehend.

The best feeling as a writer is coming up with the most groundbreaking, original scene in history⦠only to realize you actually stole it from a book thatās been rotting on your Goodreads āwant to readā shelf for 5 years. (Looking at you, Red Rising.)
Every goddamn time, it's become muscle memory at this point
Thank you, @pahaperse and everyone who got me to 1000 reblogs! Here's to the hopeful beginnings
Okay Todd, you got me. Daedric princes got me acting unwise
Watched episode one of The Wheel of Time⦠thanks for the confidence boost, and gave me the courage to finally write. If that can get made, so can mine.
100 Dialogue Tags You Can Use Instead of āSaidā
For the writers struggling to rid themselves of the classic āsaidā. Some are repeated in different categories since they fit multiple ones (but those are counted once so it adds up to 100 new words).Ā
1. Neutral TagsĀ
Straightforward and unobtrusive dialogue tags:Ā
Added, Replied, Stated, Remarked, Responded, Observed, Acknowledged, Commented, Noted, Voiced, Expressed, Shared, Answered, Mentioned, Declared.
2. Questioning TagsĀ
Curious, interrogative dialogue tags:
Asked, Queried, Wondered, Probed, Inquired, Requested, Pondered, Demanded, Challenged, Interjected, Investigated, Countered, Snapped, Pleaded, Insisted.
3. Emotive TagsĀ
Emotional dialogue tags:
Exclaimed, Shouted, Sobbed, Whispered, Cried, Hissed, Gasped, Laughed, Screamed, Stammered, Wailed, Murmured, Snarled, Choked, Barked.
4. Descriptive TagsĀ
Insightful, tonal dialogue tags:Ā
Muttered, Mumbled, Yelled, Uttered, Roared, Bellowed, Drawled, Spoke, Shrieked, Boomed, Snapped, Groaned, Rasped, Purred, Croaked.
5. Action-Oriented TagsĀ
Movement-based dialogue tags:Ā
Announced, Admitted, Interrupted, Joked, Suggested, Offered, Explained, Repeated, Advised, Warned, Agreed, Confirmed, Ordered, Reassured, Stated.
6. Conflict TagsĀ
Argumentative, defiant dialogue tags:
Argued, Snapped, Retorted, Rebuked, Disputed, Objected, Contested, Barked, Protested, Countered, Growled, Scoffed, Sneered, Challenged, Huffed.
7. Agreement TagsĀ
Understanding, compliant dialogue tags:Ā
Agreed, Assented, Nodded, Confirmed, Replied, Conceded, Acknowledged, Accepted, Affirmed, Yielded, Supported, Echoed, Consented, Promised, Concurred.
8. Disagreement TagsĀ
Resistant, defiant dialogue tags:Ā
Denied, Disagreed, Refused, Argued, Contradicted, Insisted, Protested, Objected, Rejected, Declined, Countered, Challenged, Snubbed, Dismissed, Rebuked.
9. Confused TagsĀ
Hesitant, uncertain dialogue tags:
Stammered, Hesitated, Fumbled, Babbled, Mumbled, Faltered, Stumbled, Wondered, Pondered, Stuttered, Blurted, Doubted, Confessed, Vacillated.
10. Surprise Tags
Shock-inducing dialogue tags:
Gasped, Stunned, Exclaimed, Blurted, Wondered, Staggered, Marvelled, Breathed, Recoiled, Jumped, Yelped, Shrieked, Stammered.
Note: everyone is entitled to their own opinion. No I am NOT telling people to abandon said and use these. Yes I understand that said is often good enough, but sometimes you WANT to draw attention to how the character is speaking. If you think adding an action/movement to your dialogue is 'good enough' hate to break it to you but that ruins immersion much more than a casual 'mumbled'. And for the last time: this is just a resource list, CALM DOWN. Hope that covers all the annoyingly redundant replies :)
