Today Nina (@humbleone666) has contacted me because she really needs help with her campaign.
She has been with her current fundraiser for almost a month, but got only 323 pounds out of her 10,000 pound goal!
This won't do, Nina urgently needs donations! She is a Ugandan trans woman, and had to not only flee her home country due to its homophobic and transphobic laws, but also has to live in Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya, where many of the basic needs of life are nowhere to be seen or extremely hard to get!
This is her campaign link. Please donate, even if only a little, and please share to someone who can if you can't, because every donation counts!

๐ฅถWe're freezing๐ฅถ
Hello, I'm Wasim from Gaza, in Al-Mawasi specifically... My family and I were displaced from Rafah after hardship, bombing, displacement, and hunger.๐ญ๐
Now we have been away from our city and our beautiful home for 9 months. We have lost our house that my father built stone by stone and he worked 24/7 to build this house. But the occupation destroyed it, and no house remained in my beautiful city remained intact.๐ญ๐๐
We are now living in a tent or semi-tent, which does not protect us from the cold of winter or the rain. Our lives are very difficult.๐๐ญ
Thanks to your donations, we have been able to buy food and flour, and now I am asking you for help to buy a tent that will protect us from the cold of winter. We do not know what it means to sleep because of the extreme cold.๐ฅถ
This is our tent made of fabric and some nylon, not closed on one side. We are freezing from the cold. Help us to buy a new tent. You are our last hope.๐ญ๐ฅถ๐ฅถ๐
I also want to ask for help for my mother, who is the most precious thing in my life. Without her, I am nothing...
She has a back cartilage disease and is in great pain. She needs physical therapy, medicine, and vitamins, and I am unable to provide them. Help my mother receive treatment.๐๐๐ญ

I am Ruba from Gazaโฆ I live with my family in a tent between the cold and suffering, and we need your help to survive.
We are living through extremely difficult days that weigh heavily on our hearts. The war has affected me deeply; it has changed me and changed my family completely. Every day we wake up to a harsh reality โ the cold is severe, and life has become scattered and full of fear and exhaustion.
We no longer have a home to protect us. The tent has become the only place where we try to shelter ourselves from the cold and the wind. We try to stay strong and hold on, but life here has become incredibly difficult.
Every day we face hardship, yet we still hold on to hope that there are kind hearts willing to help us. Your support and help can make a real difference in our lives and give us a chance to live with dignity and safety.
From my heart, I ask you to stand with us and help us through these very difficult days.

Help Ahmed's dad afford his third round of chemo (deadline: March 10th)

Ahmed's dad will need another round of chemo on March 10th. The cost will be $920.
We have 13 days to raise this, which is more time than we've had before, but I am still worried because people have been donating less and less. We only met the goal last time because of a very generous donation from someone, and even then, we still fell short. I was lucky to be able to cover what remained because it was under a hundred, but if a large sum remains, I will not be able to afford it.
Our reach is also limited because Ahmed is still without his Tumblr account after it was terminated. He is trying to appeal the ban and hasn't been able to create a new one, as far as I know.
He also tells me his father is facing heart problems again. He had an ECG done and it found his heart rate was low. Ahmed had to use what little had been donated since we helped raise the money for the last chemo session to go towards medicine to help with his fathers heart.
I understand not everyone who sees and reblogs this post will be capable of donating. But I ask that if you can donate anything at all, even just $1, to please contribute. My posts about Ahmed get hundreds of notes, but those rarely translate into donations. If we can get momentum going, small donations like that will really add up.
If you truly cannot spare anything, then please help by sharing.
Current progress: $0/920

Zack (@lgbtqgorom) has asked me to make a post, because conditions at South Sudan's Gorom Refugee Settlement are extremely precarious for not only him, but his fellow queer refugees.
They not only had to endure the need to escape from where they live because being who they are was made illegal there, but also have to endure continuing hostility from their fellow refugees, in this place that is supposed to mean safety and hope for them, all while the camp lacks extremely basic necessities.
This is Zack's fundraiser. Please donate, even a little. Every amount helps a lot!
Hello everyone! I'm Vivian [legal name is Abola], a transgender woman refugee, currently living in Gorom refugee camp in South Sudan with other LGBTQ refugees and asylum seekers from Uganda, DRC, Rwanda, Burundi, and Ethiopia. All of us were previously residing in Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya. ๐
When I first came out as a queer person in my home country, Uganda, I faced a lot of discrimination, arbitrary arrests and assaults not only from law enforcement officers but also from members in my community including my friends and relatives. The dislike and homophobia was so intense that even my relatives and friends disowned and ostracized me. ๐
As a result of the persecution (arbitrary arrests and assaults), discrimination, and the draconian homophobic laws, I fled Uganda to Kenya in 2021 and claimed asylum; I filed my asylum case with the UNHCR (the United Nations Refugee Agency) and the Government of Kenya. The Government of Kenya reserves the mandate of conducting Refugee Status Determination and granting refugee status to asylum seekers. ๐
Unfortunately the Government of Kenya refused to grant me and other queer refugees, a Refugee Status Determination (RSD) interview because they didn't want to grant refugee status and thus legal residence status to queer asylum seekers. ๐
Towards the end of 2023 when they (Government officers working in Kakuma refugee camp) explicitly told us (the LGBTQ refugees and asylum seekers) to go away and find somewhere else to claim asylum and safety, I moved to South Sudan together with my fellow LGBTQ refugees and asylum seekers and we sought asylum in South Sudan. Unlike in Kenya, the UNHCR in South Sudan is allowed by the Government of South Sudan to conduct the Refugee Status Determination (RSD) interviews using their International experts. Fortunately, the UNHCR in South Sudan granted me and my fellow LGBTQ refugees a Refugee Status Determination (RSD) interview which I passed and I was granted refugee status which meant a little bit of safety from continued persecution since I can't be deported back to Uganda because I am a recognized refugee. ๐
I have been a refugee and an Asylum seeker for nearly four years in Kenya and South Sudan. I still face a lot of psychological torture and trauma as a result of the persecution I faced in my home country Uganda; I was also disowned and ostracized by my relatives and friends, a fact that is significantly contributing to the psychological torture that I am experiencing. ๐
My unfortunate experience of persecution and discrimination has pushed me to becoming an LGBTQ rights activist and advocate. I dream about the day when I will speak for the voiceless queer people on the world stage. I hope for a world where no queer person has to forcefully leave the comfort of their home country to seek asylum in a foreign country in an attempt to save their lives, a world where no queer person is discriminated against, a world where draconian laws criminalizing homosexuality are a subject of history. Such a world is possible only when you and I join hands and resources and amplify each other's voices๏ธโ. ๐
While in Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya, I participated in a lot of advocacy and activism regarding LGBTQ refugee rights and safety. My advocacy work was documented on the Instagram account @sevencolorspectrumkakuma
Click the link below to check out the Instagram profile and see the work of my activism and advocacy while the LGBTQ refugee community was still residing in Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya:
WHY YOU SHOULD DONATE:
We face numerous challenges. Mental health challenges such as psychological torture and stress are very common amongst us. We also face discrimination from the rest of the refugee population and the host community. The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) provides financial support in the local South Sudan currency, the South Sudanese Pounds, an equivalent of only $10 per refugee per month for basic needs. This money can't sustain us for more than a day considering the high inflation in South Sudan where we are living That amount given to us in South Sudanese Pounds is too little to sustain a person for more than a day. Therefore there is a challenge of lack of basic needs like food, clean drinking water, clothes, decent shelters, healthcare, etc. There are a considerable number of LGBTQ refugees in the camp who suffer from diseases such as HIV/AIDS, asthma, epilepsy, sickle cells, and of recent, cholera has become very common. ๐
As an LGBTQ refugee rights activist, a representative and one of the leaders of our community, one of my tasks is to advocate for the betterment of the living conditions of the LGBTQ refugees in Gorom refugee camp. To that end, I reached out to a well-wisher based in the United States last year to help us set up a fundraising campaign on the popular crowdfunding platform "gofundme" since someone in Africa can't create a fundraising campaign on the platform. On April 29th, 2025 they launched our fundraiser which you can donate to by visiting the link below:

That sentence alone carries more pain than most people will ever see.
I did not leave my home because I wanted adventure. I left because staying meant danger. Because loving differently meant living in fear. Because my identity made me a target.
But exile did not end the suffering.
Here, survival is a daily struggle.
Being queer in displacement comes with layers of hardship that many will never understand. Discrimination follows us even in places meant to offer refuge. Finding work becomes nearly impossible when who you are is seen as a problem. Hunger becomes familiar. Some days you eat what harms your health because it is the only thing available. Other days you simply endure the emptiness.
There is hate.
There are threats.
There are moments of fear that never fully leave your body.
And yet, I want to make one thing clear:
I am not the only one living this reality.
There are many queer refugees suffering quietly. Many who endure rejection, attacks, isolation, and hunger in silence because speaking up can bring even more danger. Fear keeps them invisible.
I am speaking because silence protects injustice.
I am speaking because awareness is the first step toward change.
I am speaking because our struggles deserve to be seen, acknowledged, and understood.
If you are reading this, know that behind this story are countless others who cannot yet tell theirs.

Asoom, @asoom-gaza919, has reached out to me because today is her birthday, but she and her family are trapped in Gaza, with her having to endure all of the unimaginable hardships that the entire population of the city is forced to endure by the occupation's cruel attacks.
She would really like some support in a special day like this one, and she and her family urgently need it, so please donate if you can, and please help share this post and the other posts on her profile.
Her campaign is verified here
This is her PayPal link
And this is her GoFundMe
Please, really consider helping Asoom today. The situation in Gaza is horrific, and she and her family would all highly appreciate even the smallest amounts of support.

I Didnโt Choose to Be a Refugee. I Chose to Survive as a Queer Person.
Being queer is not just an identity for me. It is the reason I had to leave home.
I come from Uganda. A place where being queer is not just judged, it is dangerous. I had to run because staying meant risking everything, my safety, my freedom, my life.
I thought leaving would mean peace.
But exile is not peace.
I passed through Kenya, and now I am in South Sudan. And still, the struggle continues. Still, I wake up every day not knowing what will come next. Still, I am trying to survive in a place that is not truly safe, not truly home.
When people talk about queer rights in the world, sometimes it sounds like progress is everywhere. But for many of us, that progress feels far away. It feels like something we watch from a distance while we are still living in fear, still struggling for basic things like food, shelter, and safety.
Queer suffering is not just headlines.
It is being forced to leave your family behind. It is losing everything you knew. It is asking for help and not knowing if anyone will respond. It is trying to stay alive in a world that keeps closing doors on you.
And the hardest part?
Sometimes people forget about us.
They celebrate Pride in one part of the world, while in another part, someone is hiding, running, or going hungry because they are queer.
I am still here.
Still trying. Still surviving. Still hoping that one day I will live a life where being queer is not something I have to suffer for.
Until then, this is my truth.
