Teak Shelves from the 60's
This is so real. Honestly, it takes a lot to admit feeling this kind of pressure—but I’ve been carrying it. I’m managing a Tattoo/Barber/Piercing studio, studying Interior Design, trying to be present as a single mom, and still thinking about how our home looks and feels. Sometimes I have to remind myself—that’s already a lot. I’m literally building a future and a home at the same time.
And then there’s Instagram. God, it gets to me. That never-ending scroll of perfectly curated, spotless homes that look like they belong in a magazine. Even though I know it’s all staged, filtered, and probably sponsored, it still makes me feel like I’m falling behind on something I never even signed up for.
But hey—those two teak bookshelves I found on Facebook Marketplace for 1000 kr? Total win. There’s something so satisfying about giving old furniture a new life. They’ve added so much warmth and personality to our rental. Way more soul than a brand-new showroom setup could ever give. And I even got them from a woman raising funds for a local sports team, so it felt good supporting someone else, too.
I’m also really glad I changed the kind of influencers I follow on IG. Lately I’ve been drawn to midcentury modern, secondhand, sustainable design accounts—people bringing back that cozy 60s/70s charm. Feels more real. More within reach. And way more aligned with where I’m at right now, both creatively and financially.
Exploring the Enchanting Old Town of Menton, France
Nestled on the French Riviera, just a stone's throw from the Italian border, lies the picturesque town of Menton. Often referred to as the "Pearl of France," Menton captivates visitors with its beautiful pastel architecture, vibrant local markets, and a culinary scene that is nothing short of delectable. Let’s take a stroll through this charming old town and discover its many delights.
The Charm of Pastel Architecture
One of the first things that strikes you about Menton is its stunning architecture. The old town is a maze of narrow streets, each lined with buildings painted in soft pastel hues. From sun-kissed yellows and warm corals to gentle blues and greens, these colorful facades reflect the Mediterranean light, creating a serene and inviting atmosphere. As you wander through the labyrinthine alleys, you’ll find yourself constantly stopping to admire the charming windows adorned with flower boxes, the wrought-iron balconies, and the intricate detailing that make each building unique.
Vibrant Local Markets
Menton’s local markets are a feast for the senses. The most famous is the Marché des Halles, an indoor market where you can find fresh produce, cheeses, meats, and an array of local delicacies. The market is a bustling hub of activity, with vendors proudly displaying their goods and engaging in lively banter with customers.
Outside, the streets come alive with additional stalls selling everything from handcrafted souvenirs to fresh flowers. The colors and scents are intoxicating, with the bright hues of fruits and vegetables contrasting beautifully against the pastel backdrop of the buildings. It's a perfect place to immerse yourself in the local culture and perhaps pick up some ingredients for a picnic on the beach.
The Lemon Abundance
Menton is renowned for its lemons, and these vibrant fruits are an integral part of the town’s identity. The mild climate and fertile soil create the perfect conditions for growing the sweetest and juiciest lemons. In February, the town celebrates its annual Lemon Festival (Fête du Citron), a spectacular event featuring elaborate citrus sculptures, parades, and fireworks. But lemons are celebrated year-round in Menton, appearing in everything from limoncello and lemon tarts to savory dishes and artisanal products.
Delectable Local Cuisine
The culinary scene in Menton is a delightful fusion of French and Italian influences, reflecting its unique geographical location. Fresh seafood is a staple, with dishes like bouillabaisse and grilled fish commonly found on menus. Local specialties include socca (a chickpea flour pancake), barbajuans (savory pastries filled with Swiss chard and ricotta), and pichade (a tomato and onion tart).
Dining in Menton is a sensory experience. Whether you’re enjoying a meal at a seaside bistro, a family-run trattoria, or a Michelin-starred restaurant, the emphasis is always on fresh, local ingredients and traditional recipes passed down through generations.
Dressing Up for the Backdrops
Menton’s breathtaking scenery provides the perfect backdrop for dressing up and taking memorable photos. The pastel-colored buildings, the azure sea, and the lush gardens create a romantic and picturesque setting that invites you to put on your best attire. Whether you’re strolling along the Promenade du Soleil, exploring the botanical gardens, or simply enjoying a gelato in one of the charming squares, the beauty of Menton makes every moment feel special.
In conclusion, Menton is a town that enchants visitors with its stunning architecture, vibrant markets, and delicious local cuisine. The abundance of lemons adds a unique flavor to the town’s identity, while the beautiful backdrops inspire you to dress up and capture the memories. A visit to Menton is a journey through a fairy tale, where every corner reveals a new delight and every experience leaves a lasting impression.

Menton, France (Part 1)
Looking back on our trip last summer in Menton, France, I almost forgot how anticlimactic it was when we first arrived at the airport at Nice. There was so much stress involved into getting to the actual destination. Firstly, most local taxis do not provide car seats for children and second of all, the train leaving Nice was so jam-packed that it was absolutely impossible to get in when the doors open. Passengers looked like they were canned sardines. It was insane! Plus it was so hot that I regretted booking our flight early in the morning and arriving at mid-day. The best time would have probably been a late afternoon arrival to avoid the intense heat. Well, I honestly only remembered the stressful part of the travel as I write this blog and recollect the details. Otherwise, what I really remember actually were the beautiful, unforgettable moments captured by these images.
It was a relief when we finally arrived in Menton. The city was so vibrant. I instantly had the idea of making a Wes Anderson reel based on the pastel-colored buildings and the gorgeous hotel that we stayed at. Hotel de Londres aesthetic was all we every really need to make up for the bad start at Nice Côte d'Azur Airport.
Anywhere I go, chances are, I would notice the smallest of details that could instantly set me off. Our bed was not placed at the center of the wall and it annoyed me the entire time. Haha. But the wallpaper and the blush color of the whole room was gorgeous. Everywhere we turned were instagrammable corners.
We were offered a bigger room with an outdoor sitting area but we really never got to use it except a place to hang our trousers and swimsuits dry. And of course, for a little photo shoot. But it was also a charming corner.
The hotel's french salon was my most favorite part. The design was impeccable. The sun was generously streaming in from all corners and it just warms up the color of the interior a little bit more.
The little one had to do her signature pose on all the furnitures.
Coincidentally that afternoon, the corridor just outside our room had a leaky roof. The hotel manager let us into an afternoon fiesta at the bar with all-we-can-drink-and-eat care of the hotel management for the "minor inconvenience". We had a platter of smoked ham, cheese, ricotta, pickles, bread sticks, and olives. And we ordered cold drinks to beat the heat. I, of course, had to taste the lemonade. I think I tasted everything that was lemon-y the whole tour.
The whole afternoon was just spent on going around and looking for a place to eat and to get some refreshments. The beach was literally just a few meters away from our hotel and it was practically convenient to get to all the places we needed to go. Restaurants were everywhere, a grocery store was a few meters away, the bus stops were not that far either.
Here's a quick sneak peek of our travel from Oslo to France. We had an 7-8 hour overlay at Oslo Gardemoen that warranted us to sleep at an airport hotel. Was quite taxing with the long overlay, but we managed with a few entertainment sources here and there like people-watching.

Places to eat in London : Part 2
THE OLD BANK OF ENGLAND
Fleet Road, London
A photo similar to this basically led me to search up The Old Bank of England on google. It is probably the most curious courtyard I have ever seen because of the double-decker parked inside which, in fact, have tables inside for dining. Note that this is just a small area of the pub/restaurant. Th e inside of the old Law Court's branch of the old Bank of England has one of the most spectacular interior in all pubs of London and I am just so glad I stumbled upon this on Facebook.
To secure seats especially for a large group, it is always best to reserve a table during the evenings when the pub literally is swarmed. I have been here twice and the second one was in the middle of the day. I expected it to be almost empty but I was wrong. People from the neighbouring offices take their lunch breaks here coupled with day-drinking as well.
Since we were just here for the beer and the instagram photo-op. we just ordered one of their heritage beers, the Rivertown pils. And because we just had a huge dinner before this, we ordered just a few small appetisers. We got the KING PRAWNS PIL PIL, STICKY THAI CHICKEN BITES, AND COD GOUJONS. They were in small portions but very tasteful!
The interior of the Old Bank of England is massive and I am going to make a separate blog on this with all the gazillion of instagram photos I managed to take.
Book here www.oldbankofengland.com.
CHAI GUYS, COVENT GARDEN
Seven Dials Market, London
Not a place to eat but my friend, Sarjo, highly recommended this place for the best chai tea latte. She apparently went here last year and purchased one of their tea in tin cans and she decided to grab a different one this time around. We were so thirsty from all the walking so we got us iced chai tea lattes.
I really love how they really said it with confidence that they are the best chai in London but inserted the "probably" just to be down-to-earth. Haha.
This is me and my gorgeous friend, Sarjo, enjoying our chais. And, of course, a photo of us standing next to a cucumber-themed photobooth at Seven Dials that wasn't even functioning.
Click the photo below to order their chai tea for your next home-brew!
PRETO BRAZILIAN STEAKHOUSE, VICTORIA
Wilton Road, London
I haven't had Brazilian food before so when the idea came up, I was a little bit skeptical. My college friend really insisted that we go to this Brazilian buffet where they go around and serve freshly grilled meat in skewers. The idea sounded so good but I wasn't sure if I was up to it since I have been craving Chinese food at that time. But then when we got inside the restaurant, the vibe was on! The salads that were on display were so vibrant, the wide array of side dishes were five-star, and their beans with tender pork ribs was so incredible I could almost cry. That was probably my favorite! They kept on serving us grilled meat too so I was literally full to the brim in an instant. This was a no-brainer, it is one of the best buffets I have ever had in my entire life. Men with huge appetite should eat here (like my boyfriend lol).
I finally had to wave my white flag (or shall I say flipped my card to say NO to their delicious barbecued meat or known as "churrasco" in Brazil). They have this clever way of signalling the waiters to keep the meat coming with a card that say "More, Please" and of course says the opposite if you flip it. The next time I am coming to Preto for the Brazilian food buffet, I'll make sure I'll have the whole day to just sit and take it slow, skip meals before hand, and probably save the beans for last. :)
THE RUM KITCHEN, BRIXTON
Coldharbour, London
We walked into the restaurant and we were already greeted by a tables full of people of what seem to be extended families, group of friends, locals, patrons... all of them seem to be feeling really at home in The Rum Kitchen. But I can see why. The restaurant gives off such a home-y vibe. The music, the flavourful Carribean, and an order of cocktail during the ¨happy hour¨ are the key ingredients to an amazing food experience with friends and families.
Brixton is easily one of the places in London that they'd warn tourists about because of its reputation for having high crime rate and drug-related issues. But that was in the past. Brixton is one of London's revitalisation projects to recreate once more as a vibrant side of the town. The southern neighbourhood is still worth seeing though because of the food offers. And Brixton has an abundance of food products that cater to African culinary.
MIHBAJ, CAFÉ AND KITCHEN, PADDINGTON
Præd Street, London
There's nothing like ending the tour here in London with a full English breakfast. We were checked-in at a hotel in Paddington and we decided we didn't wanna walk kilometers to the best Google recommendation. We just had to find a breakfast place nearby. Mihbaj Cafe was a super cute corner for breakfast and catching up with an old friend.
Me and Andrei both got us two English breakfasts with sunny-side up eggs on sourdough, spiced sausages, mushroom, & homemade white beans (fasolia) in tomato sauce. We sat in a corner with our feet up, just chilling and enjoying the filtered light coming from above our heads. Get inspired and check out their instagram @mihbaj.
Places To Eat In London : Part 1
I have only been to London two times but I feel like I am qualified enough to blog my two cents about the 10 in 22,316 pubs and restaurants in London. Haha! So these are some of the places I have been to and thought were worth visiting if you're a hungry mthrfkr like me. It is a huge help to go into Pinterest for reference, but sometimes it is not always the case. The best way perhaps is to just let your hunger lead you anywhere convenient. I mean anywhere you turn your head, there's always a restaurant, a cafe, a pub, or a kiosk in sight when you are in London. This is a fact about the city that goes understated. You can never go hungry in London. It's just a matter of what you fancy. And whatever your impression of the food experience is, it mostly depends on the company you're with. You can be in a Michelin-star restaurant in London but your date is the dullest man in town, so everything else just becomes bleh... you know what I'm saying!? My list of places to eat is based on where I actually had the chance to eat during my two trips in London.
Anyways... moving on.
MAMASONS DIRTY ICE CREAM
Chinatown, London
A legit filipino dessert joint where they serve ice cream scoops in warm buns or should I call it, pan de sal. You got that right. These ice cream sandwiches in the menu are called Bilog and you'd be nuts not to stop by for one or two bilogs. If you are a kid who grew up in the Philippines, you'd be so thrilled to find out that they have a Milo flavoured ice cream. I was so psyched! The ice creams are handmade the traditional way in steel drums covered in crushed ice and rock salt, hence the term "dirty ice cream". They also have other familiar flavors like ube, halo-halo, and one that was called milk bun which I assume would be similar to condensed milk which we traditionally use as a pan de sal filling for meryendas back home. The place is cute but there's always a long line. The good thing is, you can place your order on digital screens. It is so asian-tech, amiright?
They have four branches in London as of now but the one we went to was in 32 Newport Ct, West End, London, WC2H 7PQ.
BOROUGH MARKET
Southwark Street, London
The Borough Market must be a part of the itinerary because a trip to London would be senseless without a gastronomic experience at the traders' market. I am drawn in particular to this seafood stall with handsome, bearded, tattoo-clad men who are the image of "sailors" and were standing behind towers of oysters and a gigantic pan where they make hundreds of kilos worth of paella.
The oysters were so damn fresh, they still taste so sweet with a hint of sea water! Topped it with chopped red onions of course and vinegar, I had to savour the moment and chewed each oyster. I can never understand why some people would just slurp it down when it is so vital to chew and taste the oyster's insides and even catch some tiny bit of rocks or pebbles as you chew. It is just a part of it, I guess! The sea urchins just tasted of the sea. Nothing more. Haha. The paella was a bit too salty that time we were there but I am pretty sure the long line of people says a lot.
The Borough Market is in itself a place of 100 traders with their own respective stalls so it is not just a place to eat oysters. They have everything you could ever imagine from real truffles, mushroom paté, the spiciest bottled chilis, teas, wines... the list goes on.
The address: Borough Market , 8 Southwark Street, London SE1 1TL
BREWDOG, SEVEN DIALS
Shaftesbury Ave, London
This one was something a friend just mentioned in passing. She told me that if we ever were at the Tower Bridge, we should try BrewDog. But it was unfortunately closed by the time we were done taking pictures at the Tower Bridge. The day after, I planned on shopping at TK Maxx but BrewDog at Seven Dials got me distracted instead. I was alone and I was so hungry so I went in and ordered myself a burger for brunch.
The burger size wasn't at all what I expected. It was smaller than the average but boy did I underestimate it! I ordered the Cluck Norris just because I love the internet's Chuck Norris memes. Plus deep-fried buttermilk chicken with avocado, cajun mayo, red onion, and coriander sounded like the best combo the world has ever invented. Had to get a korean barbecue sauce and a side called Spicy Cleaver Smashed Cucumbers. I was expecting nothing less from BrewDog since my walking TripAdvisor friend Monica recommended it. I had a food coma on the bus on my way to the parliament. I swear I was sleeping on the bus like nothing else mattered.
The address: BrewDog Seven Dials, 142 Shaftesbury Ave, London WC2H 8HJ
BUNBUNBUN : VIETNAMESE FOOD
Kingsland Road, London
Oh what a fucking wonderful way to feed our famished selves after a long flight to London. This was one of the Airbnb owner's recos. Bun Bun Bun is a Vietnamese restaurant located just around the corner in this hipster neighborhood of Hoxton. It is one of the restaurants the owner usually frequents and I can see damn why. We ordered the catfish in a claypot and it was just absolutely amazing. Every bite hits home. I never knew catfish could be romanticized so well. It was fried and caramelized to perfection. I assumed that they made the sauce by sautéing the garlic and vegetables in the catfish’s own oil. I wondered if it was black bean sauce because it definitely tasted like it? But it did have that sweetness from brown sugar, spiciness from the fresh red chilis, and a tangy hint of rice vinegar. The meal came with some sort of clear broth, rice (that I replaced with salad), and pickled carrots. I mean, it couldn't get any better than this especially for a set of pseudo jet-lagged travellers like us. Definitely a 5-star for me!
SPEEDBOAT BAR
Soho, London
I don't know why but TikTok led me to Speedboat Bar. I guess the algorithms told me to come here before our night of gay-bar hopping. First impression was, wow. They really nailed the job in making the bar/restaurant look like you were zapped at a bar somewhere in Phuket, Thailand. It's not as if I have been in Thailand but the 80's New Wave playing in the background, mismatched colors on the walls, neon lights, and a framed picture of the majesty king and queen of Thailand were displayed on the walls. Every single food in the menu sounded so enticing. Some of their best selling dishes are so straightforward:
Chicken Skin
Sweetcorn fritter
Minced Beef with Basil
Clams with Chilli Jam
Fried Rice
Beef Tongue & Tendon Curry
The most instagrammable of them all is the Tom Yum MAMA. But I settled for the Drunkard's Seafood and Beef Noodles which best described me at that time-- drunk! No regrets though! One thing though, be prepared for the spicy hot levels of their dishes. They won't water ir down for vanilla people. In other words, be prepared to burn your tongue and a purge the day after.
They have a very quirky website too. Click here if you are curious. And maybe you can book a table or two in advance especially in the evenings because Speedboat is almost always jam-packed and I have experienced first-hand how hard it was to get a table unless sitting outside is your thing. But that should be the last option because there were two annoying drunk men at the neighbouring pub who questioned why people would pay 20 quid for a bowl of noodles. So judgy! :(

London Day 1: Our BnB in Hoxton
I think the best part of the whole stay in this really cool Airbnb is the company of the people who were up for morning chats over delicious breakfasts, who were down for wine and cocktails in the evening just before we hit the sacks, and who were simply the kind of people who emit good frequency. The past three days have been a VIBE, to be honest. I don’t mind doing this all over again.

London Day 2 : Camden Town
Among the very, very selected songs I love from Ellie Goulding, I love her particular song called "Flux". I always pop it on Spotify when I am feeling heavy and weirdly need a heavier song to top the damning feeling of heaviness. It's a song about the lingering feeling of loving someone after the relationship and the question of what if's? And the chorus goes like this...
"Would you be taking me higher? Would we be living as liars? I wanna know, I wanna know Would we be living in Camden? Getting a ticket to your band? I wanna know, I wanna know
I always wondered, where is Camden? And why Camden?
I didn't realize where Camden was until I traveled to London last year. Thanks to Pinterest recos, I learned that Camden Town in London is an iconic place for street market, music venues, and a brewing pot for alternative culture. The song makes sense why Camden was even mentioned. Seems like a place for hipsters and musicians aspiring to get into the London scene. I reckoned the song was dedicated to a past lover who was a musician finding his way in the music scene. But mainly for me, I saw Camden mainly for its street food culture.
You know your in Camden Town when you are greeted by a crowded street with a chaotic splash of colors. You've finally arrived at the street market. Almost everybody you meet are dressed up to express their mood, their taste in music, their lifestyle, to represent where they come from, their gender identity, their ethnicity. It is a Camden culture one cannot miss.
Food is everywhere. Literally everywhere you turn your head is a food stall of all sorts! I mean, I can say that about London in general. But Camden is basically famous for their street food joints. It is so diverse that it has every kind of food for literally, everybody!
First stop was this Middle Eastern shop called Sesam Me that sells halva. You'd know that these shops are so immune to curious tourists because they welcomed us so warmly and let us taste almost all of their blocks of displayed halvas. Even if we really had no plans to buy, they let us taste test anyways. I have to say, the dessert was so good! It was unlike anything I've tasted before. But we wouldn’t dare pack these crumbly desserts in our luggages. Nope.
We got to Camden really late so by the time we decided to eat, most of the shops were already starting to pack up. So we ended up eating chow mein with korean fried chicken which we thought were too salty for our taste. I ended up not eating the whole thing. I thought it was just my taste buds that got used to mildly seasoned foods from the nordics, but really, even the indian food we ordered from another stall was waaaay to salty. The lesson is, if you got the last orders before the kiosks close down, chances are, you get the saltiest parts of the cauldron where the salt at the bottom settled! Haha.
Over all, I think Camden is a great place to hang especially when meeting friends or meeting unfamiliar faces. I got to make friends while standing in line for chow mein. So I offered the vacant seats to this group of people who moved from Denmark and somehow settled in London. Don't aske me how I started the conversation with them. Let's say it started with me telling them I wished had five stomachs... and the rest was history. We ended up sharing this glass dome with them. The glass domes were like pods scattered everywhere where people could sit and eat. They were cool people. Just failed to ask their instagram accounts, and I mean… it would have sounded creepy and assuming if I followed them, right?
The sunset was not too shabby either. Besides the fact that people always warn us about pickpockets, I guess Camden is worth an afternoon of just eating and chilling with a cold glass of beer and a salty kiosk food.
