Still poking away at this Kit/Zenlidibus fic:

One step. Two. Closer she moved, the claws of her boots making an eerie absence of sound upon whatever composed the floor of the rift. "Then why? Why cause all this harm? This death? This strife?" She pointed behind herself, never taking her eyes off of him as she indicated the world from which he'd kidnapped her. A piece of a puzzle fell into place in her mind, her eyes narrowing, her voice softening. "If this hurts you to do, then why?" Another step, and a nearly irresistible urge to reach for him, to place her hand flat upon his abnormally broad chest and offer her comfort, whether he would accept it or not. "Is there another way?" Did she hear a snatch of breath? "Did you not once tell me there was?" "Mayhap I did." More stillness. Moments ticked by, her long ears certain the seconds were audible, echoing upon the nothing which stretched into a deep, violet infinity. For the span of them, he simply pinned her under a gaze that was familiar and not at all. He moved—a step or a stride or simply a closing of space as only an Ascian could manage—putting himself within her reach. "Once I thought a chance for us to align. That you might possess a mind keen enough to question your role in all of this, at least enough to be useful as a pawn." He lifted Zenos' arms at his sides. "Your duty as laid out to you. And yet, the state of my brethren in your wake tells me I have miscalculated."
