I've acquired a creature that stares at you no matter which direction you look at it from
I’m hypnotized
I need everyone to know about Le Mutt and his friends!!
This is the initial photo I saw on Pinterest. I shared it with a friend I was on the phone with at the time to co-witness the beautiful curation of images I was receiving. She urged me to find out more about him and gang!!!! It is So Good!!
Les Mutts is a series of characters (and toys of course) designed by Francesca Hoerlein in the 1980’s. Other characters I’ve come across for for sale at the moment are Le Patches and Fifi La Femme. And there are clothes sets! And Books! And shortfilms!
Yes! Yes! There are short films!
There is a whole cast of Les Mutts puppets and they have the cutest little YouTube channel!
www.lesmutts.com
My two favorites are TEAMWORK, and Better Living Through Duckness, Chapter One.
TEAMWORK is about Mutt and Wolfie working together to prepare a meal, it’s such a peaceful little short the combination of the music and the visuals is SUCH a treat. The Better Living Through Duckness series is charming and funny and I’m so sad there’s so few of them!
There’s also a few more shorts on Alex Griffin’s YouTube, who is the voice and actor behind Le Mutt himself. Alex Griffin is also the only remaining web presence of Les Mutts as his website is how I initially found out about the short films and anything that wasn’t a for-sale listing. There’s evidence that Les Mutts used to have their own website with more activities. One video eludes to there being downloadable paper crafts at some point but the website link doesn’t work anymore. So I would like to get some more eyes on what is left of a clearly a beloved little guy and the adventures he goes on :•)
@look-back-month-challenge Day 12: What would your followers guess is your favorite?
Let’s meet our competitors!
Left to right, top to bottom we have Victoria, Caterpillar, Bingo and Bark.
Tori was a lot of hard work to make and by far the most fun to dress up. Caterpillar is my little guy and most iconic frankenplush. Bingo has been the best part of my most recent special interest, dinosaurs (specifically feathered theropods like velociraptor). Bark was my very first furby and first custom anything! I hand sewed him a fluffy tail because y’know. Wolf :•)
and the votes are in:
Tori 💖👑
Caterpillar 🐱🐛
Bingo 🦖🪶
Bark 🐺⭐️
this is perhaps a trick question :•)
I’m afraid this poll was rigged from the start! These are all my favorite dolls at the moment, picking just one would be impossible :•]
Thank you to the afore-tagged host of this month long challenge! I had so much fun enjoying my collection through the prompts. I hope it returns next year because I would love to take part again!
i was doing a test print of this deer centaur sculpt, but got my files mixed up and ended up printing parts of two different versions -> the leg pieces didn't fit together and the doll had trouble staying standing.
i would have thrown the incorrect pieces away and reprinted, but the non-functional legs gave me the idea to do something fun with it -> i glued the joints into position, drilled a hole through the doll, and went ham with a carousel horse aesthetic.
fighting art block with silly little projects like this Teapot Animal, sipping from your cup. i finally got to experiment with gold leaf on a bjd & that was a lot of fun.

@look-back-month-challenge Day 10: What is your sibling's (or bestie's) favorite of your collection?
The favorites of my bestie and the closest sibling I could find at the time are Laika and Ellie!
Laika is an art doll I made after Mothra, she is part of a series I’m making including her five friend that I still intend to finish!! And she’s my brother’s favorite. In my head she’s a college student who feels kind of like a mess kind of all the time. I’m working on her closest friend Beau the Parti Poodle at the moment.
Ellie is a Madame Alexander Belgium 562 doll. (I think, I’m not as familiar with how MA dolls are titled) I call her Ellie because she reminds me of Cinderella 💙🩵 She’s my bestie’s favorite because she really vibes with Ellie’s aesthetic. I found her at an estate sale and her previous owner very clearly loved Madame Alexander dolls because there were rooms and rooms of them being sold amongst other items, set up on as many tables as they could reasonably fit in each space. Now Ellie and Laika currently sit next to each other on my shelf and I hope I can do her previous owner justice with how I’ve cared for her <3
@look-back-month-challenge Day 9:
A toy that was gifted to you.
This is Seamus 💚
He was a gift from my sister for my birthday two years ago! We were out visiting antique stores and while I was looking for Animorph books she found this little guy without me even noticing. He seems to have been handmade and has a zipper on his tummy that opens right to his stuffing. Isn’t he such a little darling?
@look-back-month-challenge Day 8: One that came to you at a special time in your life.
This is Sylvie. I have no idea how she first came into my life, but kid me held onto her and eventually she became the first doll I ever customized. Thus igniting a new interest that makes me so happy to this day.
She’s actually the doll of a doll. American Girl Samantha’s Doll. I don’t have any memory of ever having an AG doll but here we are! This is what she looked like originally.
No idea where my doll’s toy soldier (or the doll of a doll of a doll, if you will) went off to. Sylvie’s jumpsuit was the first time I tried making doll clothes, it was originally supposed to be for Laika, but it ended up not fitting her lmao. I painted her face the only way I knew how at the time, with acrylic paint and sealed with paint varnish. I want to repaint her again one day with all that I know now :•)
This is Sylvie with her pierrot girlfriend Eglantine. (I know nothing about Eglantine’s history, found her in an antique store a couple years back.)
@look-back-month-challenge Day 7: A toy you like, but don't want any more of that type/line/style.
This is Cinco, one of the newer beanie babies. I got her at a grocery store beanie stand because I noticed for some reason they gave all the cat beanies five embroidered toe beans. And only, specifically, the cats. I don’t know why????
I’m not a fan of the style of most of the new beanies I would say. It’s mainly the stiff limbed body construction and patterns/colors, I love it when they flop like literal bean bags in my hand :•) I was surprised to find that Cinco was an exception and was fascinated by the weird five-toed detail. So yeah, not really something I look for but she was too interesting to ignore! This was a really hard prompt otherwise as I’m pretty quick to gift/donate toys I don’t have a lot of attachment to, and I’ve gotten a LOT better at not impulse buying over the past year.

look back month challenge, day 17: most interesting or unusual toy
i love non-horse centaurs. i mean, horse centaurs also, but back when i made customs, it was one of my favorite things to go around thrift stores to find cheap toys that were in monster high centaur butt scale. i still have a box of various hybrids in weird limbo where the bodies are assembled, but i'm not sure if i'm ever going to finish the dolls. might make some of them as bjds eventually.
@look-back-month-challenge Day 4: Do you still have any toys from your childhood?
Lots! I moved three times last year and I’ve donated a lot of my collections in order to make that work but there are some I will never be able to part with, like Sam.
Sam is a “Lightning the Horse” beanie baby released in 2002.
He was given to me by the first friend I made when I moved to the state I currently live in. It was a big deal for me as a horse obsessed autistic 2nd grader and after years of knowing him in my mind just as that feeling of friendship I had with that girl, I eventually named him after her :•)
