⊹ john isn’t the kind of guy who would be overly expressive with his emotions, but he would show his love in small, subtle ways.

he would always remember the little things about you that actually matter (even the ones that don’t tbh), like what brand of tea you love, what type of silverware is your favorite, what’s your favorite pen to write with…things even you yourself don’t give much thought to, but he notices it all :)

⊹ john wouldn't go for extravagant date nights, but he would take you somewhere quiet. hidden spots, maybe a tucked-away bookshop, a cozy restaurant off the beaten path, or a nice picnic in a secluded park.

his ideal night would be spent having a conversation about simple things, away from the chaos of the world, with no one recognizing or bothering him. his favorite though is cooking dinner at home with you, but mostly FOR you ;)

⊹ he is not a fan of lengthy talks about his feelings, but i think you could always tell when something was bothering him by his body language. he finds solace in simple, grounding touches, whether it’s a hand around your waist or a gentle embrace when the world is too overwhelming for him.

he absolutely loves laying his head on your chest, silently asking to be held which you gladly accept. his big hands always find yours, enveloping them, intertwining, and placing gentle kisses. it’s the kind of thing that speaks volumes without needing words.

the first time you snapped at him, he just stared at you with confused puppy eyes, not exactly understanding what he did wrong. but he didn’t give it much thought, and he wasn’t the kind to push it or make a big deal out of something, so he just forgot about it.

but with every passing hour, you grew more and more irritated, every smell and every noise making you want to go on a rampage.

when you told him to get up from the couch cuz he was taking up the space (there was plenty for you to lay down) and to shut up and overall talk less (he didn’t even say anything), he knew something was up.

might not be the brightest in the room in regards to emotional maturity, but he couldn’t for the life of him figure out how the fuck did he manage to irritate you so much.

⚔︎ emotionally immature/lack of common sense/empathy

like. genuinely. you need to sit this man down and explain everything to him. and even that doesn’t guarantee that he will understand what you’re saying. being in the military, he is used to receiving commands with specific outcomes. you need to do this for that to happen. it makes sense to him only if it is logical. so when you tell him you would like him to do this or that because it would make you feel a certain way, he is staring at you like a lost sheep, because what do you even mean?

doesn’t know the difference between “will you be my girlfriend/boyfriend” vs “can i be your boyfriend.” doesn’t even know the second one exists because it is the same thing for him. 

i think when you two start getting closer, kiss each other, hang out often, and just overall get more physically touchy, he automatically assumes you are a couple and rolls with it. doesn’t even propose for you to be his partner because if you didn’t like him you wouldn’t do all that, right? right??

when his behavior leaves you with mixed signals, and you finally ask him if he even likes you, he is actually confused “what do you mean, schatz? we are together.” and when you tell him he didn’t ask you, he has the audacity to be flabbergasted with an “i had to ask??”

same thing happens when some people prefer their partner to ask them out on valentines day, and you happen to be one of them. actually has no clue why you are sad or mad with him. he had to ask? again?? if you are together, who else’s valentine would you be?? “i’m sorry, bitte. i didn’t know. why didn’t you tell me?” bright blue eyes, sheepishly staring back at you. it’s not like he is arrogant or doesn’t respect you. he is just a fuckin idiot.

⊹ doesn’t matter if it is a slow, passionate love making session or he is just straight up railing you, the aftercare is as important to him as it is to you.

⊹ he physically needs to hold you, and onto you at least for five minutes (clings to you until you literally have to beg him to stop suffocating you)

⊹ always always always says i love you afterwards. granted he chants it over and over during it too, but sex is merely a tool of pleasure for him. he knows it’s extremely intimate for the both of you, so you would never not catch him kissing every single part of your body while he murmurs those three words. he makes sure you know how much he cherishes you and your entire existence :)

⊹ absolutely makes you pee afterwards knowing how important it is. and if you are too tired or just lazy, he scoops you up in his arms and takes you to the bathroom himself. after a specifically steamy session when both of you are just covered in sweat from head to toe, this man urges you into a shower. you don’t have to lift a finger, he gladly cleans you up while being extra careful and gentle when washing your sensitive places.

⊹ if you two fool around before bed, he will put on your pajamas/underwear if you wanted to, but the night usually ends in his favorite way — cuddling one another with no barrier in between your bodies. he loves the intimacy of it, the vulnerability. a side of him only you can see.

⊹ you two drift off tangled in each other's limbs, and while you feel safe in the arms of the man who you knew would protect you from anything and anyone, he is safe and content knowing you were his and he was yours. you gave him the life he always believed not to be deserving of <3
