Unlike Gacy, who used Dahmer to make himself look better, Edmund Kemper took a more "clinical" approach when he heard about Dahmer’s crimes. Kemper viewed Dahmer’s actions as a symptom of "desperation and extreme loneliness." According to Kemper, Dahmer killed his victims to make them "unable to leave," as he lacked the social skills to keep anyone in his life by choice.

Kemper remarked:

"What he was doing was an attempt to keep his victims with him forever. It is the deepest and most sickened form of loneliness a human can experience. By consuming them or keeping their parts, he wanted to ensure they belonged to him."
