hello everyone! happy christmas to those who celebrate it, my gift to you is my fic rec list that i said i would make like a month ago. the only thing it is organized by is canonverse vs alternate universe. tried to cover a variety of subjects but there are in particular many fics of the genre “postcanon where cas is human and he and dean live together and slowly finally get their shit together” because i know what i’m about, son. HOPE U ENJOY. and if you wanna talk about any of them or rec me other fics please do. :) 

He’s “sweetheart” in the soft moments–when they’re drinking coffee alone in the kitchen, and when Dean finds him half asleep in the library and guides him away from research and to bed. He’s also “sweetheart” on the bad days, when he finds Dean in the Dean Cave and curls up on top of him just to feel grounded to something, and Dean whispers you’re okay, sweetheart until he starts to believe it.

He’s “hon” when Dean is distracted–when they’re on a case and Cas calls with an update, when Dean pauses from questioning a witness to fix his tie, or when he’s focused on finding the right cheese at the grocery store–but he’s “honey” in the garden (honeybee, sometimes, if it’s been a good day, and Cas likes those days the best). 

Dean yells “babe”–not “baby,” because that is for actual infants and the car only–across the bunker when he needs help, when he’s stuck under baby (the car) and needs a wrench, or when Sam put a book up too high and Dean was too clumsy in reaching for it and now the whole bookcase is threatening to come down on top of him.

He’s also “babe” in the shooting range, when he intentionally misses the mark so that Dean will come up behind him to help, but it’s just “Cas,” that Dean will chant later, like a prayer. 

dean shoves into cas’s side of the diner booth with c’mon dude scootch, one hand reaching for the menu while the other finds cas’s under the table. 

on hunts, dean continues to refer to cas as buddy and pal. this is incredibly confusing for their marks, who have by now heard either heard through the grapevine that dean winchester and the ex-angel are dating, or simply have never heard buddy and pal infused with such an insane amount of gay tension.

cas will sleep in ‘til noon if left unchecked, so dean wakes him with a mug of coffee on the bedside table and a line of tender, wet, sucking kisses down his bare back: hey, asshole, c’mon.

dumbass (affectionate). literally any time sam hears this, he immediately clears his throat before dean can get to the ‘manly shoving as foreplay’ portion of the deancas mating ritual.

cas fiddles with the radio and wap blasts out of baby’s speakers. dean glares until he’s forced to concede defeat, rolling his eyes and muttering you’re killin’ me, sunshine even as he turns it up.
