I was rewatching the gommage scene once again and I tried to fathom why did they use the 'Renoir' 's soundtrack verse as they're showing Sophie and Gustave, then I realized that this may be indicating the tragic aspect of Renoir and Aline's relationship; where Renoir also had to watch Aline losing herself and falling apart for what's going on in the Canvas.

Given the fact that most of the character's rendering in Canvas was based on Aline's own family, it is possible that Sophie's features are based on Aline herself and Gustave was based on Renoir.

Also, Expedition 33 is a game that heavily entwins its visual and musical elements, so if we take Aline as the one singing the songs we hear throughout our expedition, it implies that Paintress has doomed Gustave and Sophie from the start, even if Gommage didn't exist.
