paralives is on fire! in-game week 1
imagine if you will a teen-ager named zoé at home with her little brother, a young toddler named adrien, on a saturday afternoon. mom and dad are at work, adrien is taken care of and happy, and zoé realizes that she's a little hungry. nothing a simple meal of jam toast couldn't cure.
zoé is learning to cook, and has successfully microwaved hot dogs and veggie burgers without issue, but the toast is a new experience. she feels good about it though (80% chance of success) and gives it a go. initially things are going well but then the sudden blaring of the smoke alarm brings on panic! a kitchen fire breaks out, and flares up quickly. our teen races outside, with her little brother toddling along after her. both reach the sidewalk in front of the house, and once zoé gets control of her nerves, she calls the fire department. (i, the narrator, dropped the ball and did not get pictures of the fire in the beginning)
while awaiting the firefighters arrival, a kind lady stops by (there was initial thought that perhaps this woman in all black was a firefighter) and puts out the flames on the refrigerator and the corner counter before leaving.
but the fire rages on, engulfing still more of the kitchen and spreading to the deck!
it is now 4 in the afternoon, the fire has been going for some time, and zoé is feeling worried. no firefighters have shown, and the fire is still going. so she calls the fire department again. "the firefighters are on their way!"
finally! a young man in all black shows up. zoé has never had to call the fire department before, and with the clothing being similar in style to the first visitor, there's perhaps confirmation that their uniform is all black. the young man sets to work armed only with a seemingly basic fire extinguisher. by 4:32pm he has put out the fire on high chair and one of the other dining chairs. a good start, and unlike the first visitor, he's not leaving but is continuing to put out the fires. which is good because the flames have now reached and engulfed the microwave and cabinet it's on.
oh dear! the spot of fire on the deck has spread to the lounge chair!
but our firefighter, whose name is kian, is determined! by just past 5pm the fire in the kitchen is mostly out. but the deck is becoming more concerning.
still, kian presses on, and soon our brave firefighter has extinguished all the flames and saved the preston-beaumont home. the fact that the family will need to replace some appliances and furnishings will be easier to take in stride than if they'd had to scramble to find a place to live. (as you can see from the ash spots on the deck, the fire had really start to spread)
zoé and adrien continue to wait outside for the all clear and to hopefully have a chance to say thank you to the hero of the hour. the front door opens, and out walks the young man... in a yellow apron? so this is not a firefighter then? but possibly a restaurant employee, or perhaps a grocer?
as he walks down the stairs, zoé hears a commotion behind her...
these must be the long-awaited firefighters! who are now too late to do their job. (at this point, i let the game run and watched as at least 10 other people in the same uniform of hat, white t-shirt, orange vest, brown cargo pants, and brown work boots showed up, walked around the house and seeing no more fire all left again)
take from this tale the lesson that 80% chance of success cooking something can still turn into 100% chance of fire in the kitchen! zoé will not be allowed to cook anything more than her 100% success foods until she gains another level in cooking.

NRaas Needs Your Assistance!
Do you use the NRaas mods? Has the information on the NRaas website and forum ever been useful to you? If so, a moment of your time please!
I’d like to share the current situation with Simblr – which you can also read about directly from the site owner here: https://www.nraas.net/community/topic15428
While it seemed like we were entering an era of old-internet revival and indie websites in the fight against the dead-internet, a significant road block has emerged. Prices have inflated drastically for server parts, memory, storage, and server-hosting itself. This puts all non-profit online communities in peril.
As a result, the site owner has opened a Patreon so that the community can help cover the costs of keeping us online.
Important clarification:
The NRaas mods are NEVER going to be paywalled. The project will remain open-source and free for everyone. Donations are optional.
These mods are still in active development! The site and mods have been maintained by Chain_Reaction since Twallan's retirement, providing countless updates and support. Lots of cool stuff over there if you haven't updated in a hot minute.
There is no pressure to donate if your situation does not allow for it. Thank you for the consideration!
Long post ahead with information on the situation and some incentives for reaching membership goals.
i haven't played sims 3 since last year, and won't be re-installing it, but whenever i played i used the various nraas mods to help my game stay running properly, to add needed story progression, and to be able to make the changes that i needed for that save. if you use nraas in any way and can afford to do so, i encourage you to contribute

pc gamer paralives review
remember folks: it's early access. there are going to be bugs. there are going to be unfinished parts. there is liable to be a little less to do than you hope for. but this is early days and there is a lot more to come!
Paralives still feels very early in development, but its potential is blinding.
There’s roughly 5 days until Paralives comes out in Early Access, and I gotta say, I’m a little shocked at the lack of hype around it, esp considering how excited ppl seemed to be for it around the time of its announcement and early development.
Well anyway, here’s the part where I insert a poll.
Will you be getting Paralives?
Yes!
No
I’m still thinking about it
<<< RESULTS BUTTON >>>
Feel free to reblog, and/or elaborate. This post is open to share any thoughts, gripes, or excitement.
i'm getting it day 1! anyone else?
if not, are you getting it at all? if you aren't getting it, what's holding you back?
aj plays sims video and paralives dev response
yesterday (19 may 2026) aj plays sims posted a video reacting to the paralives gameplay stream. aj's video was about the fact that the all the plants in the environment move so much that it's triggering motion sickness and preventing even being able to watch the video without having to pause to let the nausea pass
in the video, and the comments, some very good points are raised about motion sickness, potential over-stimulation by the constant movement of all the plants (trees, taller grasses, bushes), and possible lag on lower end machines. the addition of a toggle or something to reduce or stop the movement of the plants altogether was discussed as a possible solution to this issue
today, alex of the paralives team reached out to aj with this response:
this is how you value your playerbase! you show you're listening and you do something about it quickly. this close to early access and it's already taken care of! if you're wondering about adding paralives to your game library, let this give you that little extra nudge to do so. the dev team are listening to our feedback already, and are doing something about it
new 45 min paralives gameplay vid
hot on the heels of the early access trailer, we have a new video of gameplay. the delay in the game last year was such a good idea. things are so much smoother now, not without bugs but definitely smoother
new paralives gameplay trailer
actual gameplay and omg y'all! please go watch this and enjoy the hype as we build into the release date which is now less than a week away!

calling out all the 30+ yr old simmers..
no shade to the teens and early twenties bloggers but it’s hard finding people within my age group that are active and continue to contribute here in the community.
also idk if anyone else experiences this but sometimes it can be difficult relating to the younger population due to generational differences, pop culture, etc.
please reblog or comment if you fall into the 30+ age simblr category.

general relativity for babies
babies? Hell, I’m an adult this is the clearest and most understandable explaination I’ve ever seen. This book is for anyone
We are all babies when it comes to new concepts, or concepts that haven’t been explained properly (and understandably) yet.
There is no shame in ignorance (a lack of knowledge) of a new subject, as it is the natural and default state of all people everywhere. There is only shame in deliberately remaining in ignorance–in prizing ignorance above knowledge–out of pride and/or prejudice.
Acknowledge your inner babies and help them to grow-up!

I seriously do not get how people don't understand this. The absolute dependence so many have with AI, so quickly, is utterly baffling. They've completely given up all thought, all pursuit, all effort because it's the Cool New Thing. We will NEVER be able to look at content online any more without thinking "Is this AI?". From funny voices and videos of famous people playing CoD, to fake smear campaigns, product placements and scams using those very same voices and faces. How about academics? Why bother writing a paper on a subject when AI can do it for you? Teachers not bothering to create course work because it's easier to have an AI plan a lesson for you. Doesn't matter if the information is incorrect because the person checking the work isn't real! It's yet another AI, working off of the same bungled data that yours spewed information from. People are giving up the very idea of THINKING, of CREATIVITY and CONNECTION to a machine purely for the sake of convenience. Tech-bros stopped reinventing the train for once, instead they created The Torment Nexus We all thought it was going to be some over the top, horrid machine of endless pointed blades. It's not. It's a recursive river of information, slowly poisoning itself on it's own bad data while people unknowingly or without care, drink from it deeply. People will suffer, knowledge will be lost and those terrible few will use it to obscure their crimes more so than they already do. Please, don't use AI. Be human. Struggle. Grow.
The current state of the Sims 4
Hi everyone.
First, sorry for my English, I'm not a native speaker so redacting a long post might include mistakes 🫣
I think the last statement from the Sims 4 community managers was the last straw for me.
I won't expand on save corruptions issues. I know that this one huge issue with multiples causes and ways to manifest, so that's not an easy thing to solve. Knowing that they are at least working on it is good, but they already talked about that in the past, and we have no visibility on the resources invested in that part.
In the meantime, they continue to release packs upon packs and pile up more and more stuff on this game. We don't have to buy them, but still, it means they have resources to invest on working on new features, and that the complexity added to have more and more packs, features and combinations of that, means that their ability to test, find bugs and solve them is stretched thinner and thinner as time goes by.
Talking about QA, they explicitly said here that they are now unable to test their packs correctly with all the existing combinations of packs and devices existing, and that they rely on feedback from players to correct those issues. Even if that doesn't come as a surprise for me as a regular user of the Bug Report forums, they explicitly said that they expect players who paid their packs full-price to be the ones testing and finding issues. Instead of investing the proper resources to do it on their side.
Getting half-baked functionalities and less and less original ideas in packs is one thing, and that's subjective (some recent packs were good in my opinion, even if a little bit disappointing when you see how things work in reality - hello Businesses and Hobbies !). But being expected to face issues and report them when you play a new expansion, it's an early access, smaller game studios with less resources make you pay less for that, and it's explicitly said.
Having worked on QA and managed teams doing QA in context where the time and the resources are too little, I know that's a recipe for disaster. You can have a product that work on the surface, but in the back, it's grasping at straws, and any new feature you add is an additional risk of things breaking. The issue is not only about QA, it's about strategic decisions in terms or resources EA invests in QA.
Of course, all this work behind the scenes is not profitable compared to releasing new content in the short term. But in the long run, it can lead to more and more anger from the customers, a loss of confidence in the product and more and more work to be done to ensure the product is viable at a surface level for casual players.
We can see how it already affects the game now : for each new patch, it's like 20 issues solved, and 30 new issues happening. And they are weirder and weirder. For exemple, at the moment, sims in situation outfits come with a random hat. Looking at the scripts and the tuning myself, I wasn't able to understand what cause that, and what was changed. It's more and more complex.
It's like your own body, where multiple organs are connected and most of them are needed to make you live, that's a system. The game is a system, with multiple interconnected stuff that makes it function. If you make the system more and more complex and it's not robust initially, you have more and more risks to make it fail at some point.
I reported multiple issues in the Bug Report forums. One of my pet peeve is that we have no visibility on the process, we don't know how what we post here is reported to people solving the issues, how it's prioritized, and what's the deadline. I mean, I always take time to investigate an issue, look at the tunings and the scripts, but even when you provide all the infos on a silver platter and identify the root cause, like this one, it's not solved. It's there since B&H release.
I would rather them take a time to aknowledge all of that, and take a step back. Focus the effort on solving the existing issues for a while and not release new content. I know that's not the same teams that work on solving issues or creating features or content, but for exemple in the meantime, teams in charge of CAS content of build content could focus on updating base game content to make it up to current standards, add items (like the Spa Day refresh - we need the simple bed versions of all those double beds from last packs and more content for younger Sims in CAS), update existing worlds of adding new free worlds to represent other parts of the planet, and so on.
There is plenty of stuff to do in every aspect to improve the experience, especially if they plan on keeping the Sims 4 alive. I don't need new duplicate features (I don't need my Sim to learn Herbalism, Apothecary, and Potion Making as a Spellcaster that basically do the same thing) or having 5 new crop tops like for each pack. I want a game that is stable, fun to play, and knowing that if I encounter an issue and report it, it will be taken into account. That doesn't seem too much to ask from a company like EA that has enough resources and money to do it.
I stopped buying packs a long time ago, and I would love to see more and more people boycotting new packs, at least for a while. I feel like that's the only way to express the disappointment and be heard (and I guess the reason of this statement as the uproar is rising and a new roadmap is supposed to be released).
I hope more and more people will talk about it, and make this message be heard.
In the meantime, I will only play this game to test and update my mods when needed. Thanks for reading my rambling 🫣
walked away from ts4 (and back to ts3) after high school years released - which was well before the absolute bug-ridden mess that has been happening with the newer packs. i can't believe that this is the game they're choosing to make their 'forever' game.
