“my heart could not bear the sorrow if we fail again.” sweet boy, too sweet for the likes of her. lips contort in a sour grimace but she does not back away from vlad. motherly instincts hidden deep underneath callous conviction - begin to pry her heart apart and allow it to bleed from the wound. talons reach and pull him closer as she bends to her haunches to look him in the eye. “but we will try again.”

“ Why? ”  Gaze full of confusion, the misunderstanding and 𝐈𝐆𝐍𝐎𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄 that only a child could hold. The boy looked at her with his blue eyes, begging her ─ desperate to understand why they had to do this. Some part of him, deep down, knew. And some part of him was angry, jealous even at the idea that they weren’t enough for his father. But their world had never been entrenched in such black and white. Nothing was as simple as being good or evil and he wanted so badly to believe it was, that he could choose the other side and that his family were the ‘bad guys’. 

He loves his family a lot, and while he hates who he is and being the chosen one, having anyone challenge that or try and take that from him immediately leaves him feeling pointless and worthless and he hates that feeling. So while he doesn’t want to be a vampire, he doesn’t want to be worthless or without the love of his father even more. He hates how the count treats Ingrid but he also loves it because it makes him feel important and valued even more and that he is really loved. 

And it will always be one of his biggest flaws. And its really twisted how the count uses that against Vlad in the show because he knows it works to make him into the monster he wants him to be. It’s always going to work. Because the biggest thing about Vlad’s character is being accepted and loved. He wanted to be human so badly because it’s normal. Being normal meant being accepted. He was the ‘freak’. But then, when he turns, its more about him forcing vampires to be like him just so he, still, isn’t left out and the ‘freak’ in it all. He’s so insanely desperate to belong and its so sad that its the narrative the entire time and that for him to ‘belong’ he has to be a murderer/evil. Which, tbh, is interesting too because when vlad turns evil, its the only time he’s really happy because he doesn’t care about that. He just cares about power and being in control. 

So, too, when it comes to erin and why he was so obsessed with keeping her with him. It was also because she made him feel valued and loved and normal. She made him feel whole and that he belonged with her. So its no wonder why he starts to slip and become obsessed and paranoid/mentally unhealthy when he does what he thinks will keep erin with him (by choice or not because he does try to force her to ‘love and obey’ him). Because she doesn’t. And instead, she starts to bond with the ‘new him’ the son his father likes more and it feeds his envy so much to the point he becomes a feral dictator forcing his way onto those who didn’t want it just so he still had that ‘im not the odd one out’ and abandoned/alone feeling. 

“ I am not apart of your 𝐅𝐀𝐌𝐈𝐋𝐘 ”  teeth bared, his mouth snarling at her with all the strength he had. Vlad kept his distance from her, his eyes never blinking for the fear and desperation swarming inside of him. He’d been held there for far too long, his heart drowning in the horrors she’d put him through, living through a hunger that just kept pushing itself down his throat. 

So many people had been killed. These monsters were too powerful, too resilient and her strength over him had only made it worse. He never played along with her twisted fantasy, her obsession to understand just what he was. But being 𝐒𝐓𝐔𝐂𝐊 down there, with her, it cut him off from the one thing he needed to survive.

He was so hungry, worse than any hunger he’d pushed himself into with his father. And each time he smelt the blood from the innocent victims those things dragged in. The harder it became to push that monster back down. He hadn’t eaten in days, weeks. And that starvation was only making him weaker and weaker, closer to giving into what he needed so bad.  “ You’re delusional, a 𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐒𝐈𝐓𝐄! ”
