In case you needed more of a reason to cry about GO3
I’ve been thinking a lot about this scene.
All throughout Good Omens all we hear is Crowley say how corrupt Heaven is and how it really isn’t much different from Hell. They don’t care about humanity any more than Hell. They aren’t any less okay with annihilating humanity than Hell. And they certainly aren’t any nicer to their angels any more than Hell are to their demons.
We hear him tell Aziraphale multiple times that he can’t fix it, because, as Aziraphale always says, the Great Plan is Ineffable which includes Heaven and everything God created. Nothing can be done to change it.
So I always assumed that Crowley was sort of “enlightened” for lack of a better term. He knew what he had brought to the table. He created so many beautiful stars and nebulae. He was excited about what Heaven was doing and the things they were creating. He was “working closely with upstairs” on projects because he was someone to be trusted. And yet he fell because he asked a few questions. What kind of reaction is that? What kind of system says they care and then throw you into the pit because you asked a question? Obviously, it’s ridiculous and Crowley seems to recognize that. So I just figured he realized what bullshit that was, washed his hands of it and moved on.
But when Aziraphale dares to say that Crowley was God’s best angel, this is his response. Somewhere in Crowley’s mind there’s still the bright-eyed and bushy-tailed angel that thinks he was out of line. That feels ashamed of his behavior. That despite all of his hard work can’t see past his one mistake. An angel that was so brainwashed, traumatized, tortured and mistreated that he still believes,
“I was a terrible angel.”
Some thoughts I've had since my last post. It was kind of a revelation that I've had in a couple of places over the course of a few days.
Firstly, the problem of the Final Fifteen left us in limbo for nearly three years, wanting to know what would happen between Crowley and Aziraphale. Nobody was worried about that pesky end of the world bit at the end. Just three years of a romantic cliffhanger.
I'm not speaking for anybody here, I'm not accusing anyone of necessarily believing what I'm about to say over what their actual feelings are on the finale, it's just my opinion... But the show was never about Crowley and Aziraphale's love for one another. Yeah, it became that, but it was originally about their love of humanity.
Season 2 was a big ol' distraction from that, and a broken-hearted angel and demon became the main concern. I'm not denying that I am right there with those people. But the thing that made Crowley and Aziraphale different from the rest of their sides was their love of humanity.
I will say I've been having issues with people complaining that their decision was out of character. I wholeheartedly disagree with that. And besides, like Aziraphale said, they both wanted to be together, but it was about more than that.
As for alternative endings where they simply start up where they left off, minus heaven or hell, with everyone's memories intact, would never work. Humanity had already been poked and prodded into what it was. You can't just pull that rug out from under everything and act like that would suddenly work. The knowledge of the Plan is still being affected by it. In order for them to truly take advantage of a universe with true free will, they needed to be human and have human experiences for it to truly mean anything.
I don't think Crowley and Aziraphale just vanished, and oop, they never existed, they were never real. They have existed in many different ways over many different lifetimes.
I've had people argue about Anthony and Asa not being *them* but that's the thing. They are. They're not the same, but the building blocks are the same. Their love always draws them together, and they both got to be with the one they love.
A story will always go beyond the last page of its book.
Crowley and Aziraphale through the years.

“bits to use in everyday conversations”
Angel, time to go
Crowley + calling Aziraphale 'angel' GOOD OMENS 3.01 "The Finale"
"Are they lovers?" Worse. They were supposed to be, but never got the chance.
...
well apparently everyone else hates it. i do not. i love it. i love what they did with it, i love that crowley got to choose, i love that he chose humanity, that he did not choose to run away.
because THAT is who he is. he loves his stars and creations, he loves humanity, he loves the messiness, the good and the bad, the ugly and the beautiful, he loves watching them. he showed jesus all the kingdoms of the world to share that love with someone who he knows already felt it.
in the end, they made that choice together. it's a choice they have made before, over and over, saving humanity over themselves. no god, no angels, no demons, no thousands of years of suffering for all the millions of eternal beings.
personally, i choose to believe that god's last gift to them was integrating them into the fabric of the new universe, so they will find each other in every lifetime. but without anyone watching, without any plan behind it, without senseless suffering, without creating stars just to destroy them.
just the two of them, together, always.

I see some people questioning why Aziraphale and Crowley had to make their decision at the end when it seemed avoidable so here's my two cents on why I actually liked the finale.
Neil gaiman said season 3 was going to be what would've been book 2, and season 2 was the bridge to get us there.
They couldn't just do what Adam did in season 1 and rewrite reality, because season 2 was showing us that the whole problem was heaven and hell. The two sides making humans lives harder, while both having their own motives, the angels being hypocrites, etc., etc. All of this goes into Aziraphale and Crowley's decision at the end that humans need a world where they can be themselves without these external forces trying to sway them.
Aziraphale and Crowley knew this would mean they wouldn't exist, but their love of humanity was stronger than that. And further, their love for one another reflects their love of humanity. For 6000 years Aziraphale and Crowley have been on earth together, experiencing all the pleasures the world has to offer, including companionship. What I've always loved about Good Omens is that despite the main characters being two celestial beings, they are still so human, and a large part of that is their relationship with each other that makes them human. Whether it be platonic or romantic doesn't matter, whether they kiss or not doesn't matter. What does matter is that they loved each other so much and that made them human, and that love also made them love humanity.
Everything they've done has been for humanity, and while at first (book/season 1) it started as self preservation with selfish motives, it ended with complete self sacrifice to give humanity the chance they believe it deserves.
And! Those 6000 years aren't all for nothing! Those 6000 years is what gave them that mindset they had about heaven and hell and humanity. Living on earth, outside of their respective domains gave them a perspective that neither the angels or demons had - they knew what humanity needed. And that was for them to be out of the way.
And! Asa and Anthony meeting and living a happy life together is proof that if not for heaven and hell's interfering, Aziraphale and Crowley would have ended up together and gotten their happy ending. Asa and Anthony are proof that Aziraphale and Crowley's sacrifice gave humans the chance they deserve. People talk about how a lot of those 6000 years Aziraphale and Crowley had was suffering, but that is not the case for Asa and Anthony. Without heaven or hell, they can just be, like Crowley believed they could. Alpha Centauri was never a true option, heaven and hell still would've been an issue. But in this new universe, Asa and Anthony truly do get to be an "us".
And you know what? In their own universe, in their own time, with heaven and hell beating down on them - Aziraphale and Crowley still managed to find and love each other. And do you know what I call that? Ineffable.
