just saw a pigeon doing the puffed up courtship dance thing to another pigeon, and as he was strutting around he suddenly stopped for a split second to do a very brief preen-peck at his own side, then returned to the strutting around. and i surprised myself by instantly losing respect for the male pigeon in that moment, like come on man i appreciate you had an itch or whatever but how is she supposed to feel special when you're getting distracted by bullshit like that? which on reflection i don't endorse, i mean those are pretty harsh dating norms i'm imposing on these pigeons, from a total outsider perspective, for no reason. probably not all girl pigeons are as uptight about that sort of thing as i would apparently be if i was a girl pigeon, maybe she even found it endearing who knows, i don't know her. it's none of my business really. sorry pigeons.

i know i've been saying this for years, but i can't get over how fucked up the slayer system is. the slayer is the most important person in the whole world, the only human being on this earth who can prevent the demons from doing an apocalypse whenever they feel like it, but because slayers are immediately replaced when they die, they're also treated as completely interchangeable and disposable. with other chosen one gigs, as much as being chosen sucks a lot of the time, the upside is that your safety is of paramount importance to everyone around you. other characters will risk their own lives to protect you because if you die, the rest of the world is fucked. but if a slayer dies she's just immediately replaced. there's not even like a gap between slayer eras. it's the only chosen one gig in all of fiction where being chosen is, paradoxically, synonymous with being canon fodder.

One legitimately weird thing about Tumblr is that we literally can’t code for shit, many people quit working at Tumblr due to a hostile work environment, and we can’t seem to program a simple blogging website to not flood your RAM.

I’m gonna need you all to get more obsessed with Supergirl 2026. It’s literally every single sarcastic, messy, depressed, grieving, male lead from recent media that accidentally adopts an angry, young girl (also grieving) which forces him to confront his self destructive behavior and realize the impact he can still make. But she’s a girl. This is the character you all love in every piece of media. I’m begging you all to adore her the same way.

it's so insane to me that buffy just kind of casually mentions to riley in a random episode in season 4 that slayers don't make it past 25. there's a part of her that's just accepted it. i don't think she's actively suicidal yet, but she's no longer that 16 year old girl desperately insisting she doesn't want to die. as sad as that moment in prophecy girl is, it's also kind of hopeful, because it's still an instance of buffy valuing her life and autonomy and defying her horribly unfair destiny. there's something so much sadder to me about her having accepted the inevitably of her untimely death to the point that she casually brings it up in conversation.
