he could have been the magic dealer. frankly. you might lose some of the coercive factor and exploitation of amy and willow both buying form him (but honestly in the gay sex magic allegory he date raped giles so maybe not) which i personally think would be a loss in the sexual violence show esp in its sexual violence season (as much as the framing of much of the messaging this season needs to be challenged), but imagine the added drama of an ethan return post-initiative capture in this capacity. chipped and unable to hurt other humans but still exploiting them until it goes too far. ethan could be the one corrupting willow in giles's absence, after he condemned her use of magic for the unnatural not just the supernatural as dangerous and stupid. and when giles returns? holy shit. goose bumps at the idea.
